Chereads / The (Un)Wanted Grandson (Hermione Granger x Male Reader) / Chapter 2 - The beginning of everything

Chapter 2 - The beginning of everything

16th of December, 1990

(Y/n's POV)

In the middle of all the mist, I can see four people, one that I barely recognize, because I know that it's me, but at the same time, it's not, it looks like me but older; the rest of the figures are all blurry, but each has a unique characteristic, one of them has raven black hair, the other one is a girl, I think... she has a bushy brown hair, and the last silhouette is tall and has red hair. Everything around them was blurry, but just before a sudden quietness, something happens that always sends shivers down my spine, a loud sound after green lighting falls, the light surrounds us as someone screams

"AVADA KEDAVRA"

Right at that moment, my mom walked in to wake me up, being the most silent human in the entire world.

"Good morning sleepyhead!" Says my mom as she shakes me by the shoulders, usually it takes a lot to wake me up in the morning, so it became a routine for my mother to walk in and always do the same every morning, on the other hand, my dad is much calmer about it.

After five minutes of doing the same I finally fully woke up, kind of, so I went into the bathroom and took a shower, I usually take my time in showers because it's warm to be in it, especially in the mornings.

When I finished drying up, dressing up, and putting on my glasses, I walked into the dining room, where my mother waited for me with breakfast. I've always thought that my mother was kind of pretty, she had black hair, like me, but a lot longer, her eyes are dark brown and a little slanted, it's more notorious when she smiles because her eyes narrow, she has a small height too, she is 5'1 (1.54 cm).

According to what she has told me, her work has something to do with plants, I think the word was herbology, but I'm not sure, mainly she takes care of plants and studies them, she helps a lot of our neighbors with plant care, because it's not something very common, aside from that she also creates somewhat handmade remedies, but I've never been that interested in how she makes them, after all, they do work.

On the other hand, my father's case is different because I never get to see him in the mornings, he always goes to work early, really early, I think he's some kind of police, I think because every time

I ask him about it he says the same, that he is some kind of police, he never gets into many details about his job, just like mom, but at least she explains a little about the plants she takes care of, although I never pay too much attention, because I'm not really into it.

My Dad is a tall man, approximately about 6'0 (1.82 cm), he has short black hair and also has brown color eyes, he has a defined musculature, and he has a normal kind of eyes, not too big nor too slanted.

"Good morning mom..." I said, still half-sleep while I sat at the table.

"I already said good morning, but it seems you were still asleep," said my mom as she chuckled.

"Yeah, but you know me, I hate mornings. If it weren't for you I would wake up in the middle of the afternoon." I say while I laugh and start to eat.

"I would like to believe you mean that as a joke, but knowing you it's probably not, you have to learn to wake up by yourself my dear, soon you'll be 11, you're not a baby anymore. " said my mom in a casual way, but at the same time scolding me.

"I know, I know, but mornings are so boring, maybe if I went to school, they wouldn't be that boring..." I said as I rolled my eyes.

"(Y/n), you know that- "

"Yeah, I know that you say it's for my protection and all that, but it would help if any of you told me why, you've been doing this my whole life, I'm just saying that I would like to know more about things and why I can't go to a normal school," I said as I crossed my arms.

Oh, yeah, I've never been to any kind of school, I've never made any friends, my parents have home-schooled me since I can remember, I never really question it until recently because I didn't see a need to do it, most of the time I spent it reading or playing videogames, and things had never been lacking at home so I didn't pay that much attention to it but recently many doubts have grown and these doubts don't let me rest, and my parents don't answer them, weird things have started going on around me.

When I finished eating, I thanked my mother and went to my room because I forgot my jacket, it was a cold morning in Little Whinging, and besides having my hair still wet, I was cold. I got to my room and found my jacket, and before leaving I saw myself in the mirror, my still wet black hair was falling to my brown eyes, both things I got from my parents, my eyes were a little bigger than my dad's eyes; someday I hope I get to be as tall as my father, but right now my height is 4'6 feet (1.38 cm) and I have a brunette skin color.

I put on my jacket and walk out of the room, I went to the living room to read a little, I pulled out a book they gave me recently called "The mist" by Steven King, and I let the hours pass.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few hours later...

"I guess it's a good time to stop reading, I don't want to finish this book in one go," I said out loud, as I closed the book and left it there.

I started to walk back to my room, because there aren't a lot of things to do in general, aside from the classes that my parents give me, the fact of not having friends doesn't help that much, so most of the time I spend it reading or playing in my NES.

Before I could get into my room, I heard the main door opening, so I went to say hello to the only person that always gets home at this time.

"Hi, dad!" I said as I hugged him.

"Hi (Y/n) How has your day been?" He answered casually as he ruffles my head.

"It's fine, it was a day like any other, to be honest, I just read a book and played in my NES. How was your day dad? How was work?"

"Everything's been pretty quiet, so yeah, everything is good, now I'll take a shower little man, because I'm all dirty and sweaty, so afterward I'll greet you how it's supposed to be." He always did the same because he didn't like to hug me if he felt that he was dirty, he always prefers to take a shower first and then hug me as a greeting, even though I don't mind it, even if he was all dirty, because he is my dad after all.

"Okay dad, mom is in the backyard if you want to say hi to her."

"Thanks, son, I love you," said my father before going to say hi to my mother and then going to take a shower.

After 15 minutes dad walked down the stairs and finally hugged me, and he said.

"Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you, your grandma is coming here today, and she's going to stay here until your birthday, you know how she is, she likes spending time with your mother and with you, so she doesn't see a better option than this one.

My dad and grandmother have a weird relationship, my father is the kind of person that doesn't speak that much, he's more of an introvert like me, on the other hand, my mom and my grandmother are extroverted, he doesn't dislike mom being that way because he loves her as she is his wife, but from grandma, he thinks that sometimes is a little much.

"Really? Awesome!" I answered, grandma has always been nice to me and she has always cared for me, besides when she can she brings me presents, and in my opinion, she doesn't talk as much as my mom does, she's a fun person too.

After a few hours with the sky already darkened, someone knocked on our door, my father got up from the couch and went to see who it was, after a few seconds he walked into the living room with my grandma.

"Hi! How have you guys been? it's been so long since I last saw you, have you already forgotten about me?" said my grandma Elizabeth.

"Hi, mom! We haven't been able to visit you, you know how Salazar's job is and I haven't got the time for it, I'm so sorry for making you come all this way, and you know that we could never forget you." Said my mom as she hugged her with great affection.

"Hi, grandma! I missed you, What have you been up to?" I said as she let go of my mother's hug and hugged me instead.

"It's been good, you know, the usual at work, I thought you guys might miss me so I came here to be with my grandson on his special day, it's not an everyday thing that a child turns 11, he's on the way to becoming a man." Said my grandma as she grabbed my face and started to kiss me on my forehead.

I smile because I feel a little older and proud than other times, I'm anxious to know how this day will be for me, as it's some kind of early celebration.

After we finish dinner, I get up from the table and take all of the plates, to leave them on the sink, my mother enters the kitchen and she whispers in my ear.

"Go to the living room, there's a gift there for you, consider it a small gift in advance." She stroked my hair and I started to walk towards the living room, there I saw my dad and grandma sitting and talking on the couch, and before I could join the conversation, someone knocks on our door.

Instead of letting my father answer the door, I go and open the door without asking who is it, before I could speak, I see that there's no one at the door, and there's just a package on our porch.

"That's weird..." I thought out loud.

My father, still on the couch, asks

"Who is it, son?"

I answer

"No one, just this weird package." I take it and I see that it has my name in it, for the last time I check to see if there's anyone, and after I check and confirm that there's no one, I get inside the house and close the door.

The package said "Mr. (L/N), 10 Magnolia Crescent, Little Whinging, Surrey." But there wasn't any name to show who send it, at that moment my father appears behind me and takes the package.

"What do we have here?" I see his eyes go through the same words I have read, but his reaction surprises me, his eyes widen and then he took the package to his office without saying any other word.

Minutes later my father walks out of his office with a worried face, so I ask him

"Are you okay dad? What happened with the package?" He looks at me in the eyes, and finally smiles, he said.

"Don't worry about it little man, I thought it could be something bad, but after checking it I discovered it wasn't like that, remember we always need to have precautions with unidentified objects, I'll keep the package, for now, it's not something you should have yet..."

"Oh... okay, it's fine I guess," I said without question, I know he does it for my good, I think.

"Well little man, it's time for you to see the gift me and your mom left you in advance, we hope you like it." When I remember about it, I walk towards the mini table in the center of the living room, where there's a small package enveloped in red paper with a blue ribbon.

My mother walked up to me and said.

"Well, What are you waiting for? It's not going to open by itself."

I grab it and start to tear the paper, inside of it there's a copper bracelet, which on every end of it has dragon heads, surprisingly the bracelet adjusts to my small wrist, it's like magic, or maybe a good sense of dimensions on my parents' part.

"Your grandma gave it to me as a gift when I was your age, it's a family heirloom, but it's just a normal copper bracelet, it doesn't have a lot of value outside of the sentimental one." Said my mother as she smiled.

"Thank you so much, mom and dad, it's really beautiful," I said as I walked towards them and hugged them.

After the embrace is over my father said.

"Well, it's pretty late, I think it's better if you go to sleep now, the following days are going to be a little busy, at least for us."

I nod and my parents and my grandma walk me to my room, they say good night to me and each went to their rooms, I put on my sleeping clothes and I lay on the bed while I think.

"This birthday is going to be different, I just feel it."

And with that thought, I fell asleep.
