Chapter 4 - 4. 1° Kill and Level-up

(A few moments before)

"Ouch, ouch, damn it, why does this keep happening!"

I told no one while rubbing my index finger with my thumb to see if a bubble had formed or something, luckily it hadn't. I soon turned my attention to the screen, where I could see the various white figures with human shapes, which only by paying attention was possible to differentiate the sexes.

Except for a more prominent figure because it is black and obviously obese (very obese, by the way), with an X of bones just above it. Shortly after that, a series of notifications appeared in the game, which until then was basically a virtual aquarium.

'WOW, that's...it's a few little things'

I thought looking at the notifications, it's worth remembering that I've been playing this "game" for 5 days and nothing has ever happened. I just looked at the villagers and occasionally clicked on some, which did nothing, my level remained 0. But now something finally happened, all because I ended up killing one of the NPCs.

'Don't wait a minute. So to progress in the game I should have killed all the villagers from day one?! I don't know who made this game, but I can definitely say that they have a terrible personality!!'

I thought and ended up involuntarily remembering my boss, who despite not being exactly bad and "enslaving" me, had a somewhat... difficult personality.

I then went on to check out the new functions.

The Store was self-explanatory, it allows me to buy different items, from common ones like clothes, weapons, furniture, buildings, food, etc., to more exotic things like powers and summoning creatures, obviously using Divinity points.

Status panel, it's basically access to my personal status in the same way as in normal games, no longer having to click on the sun at noon or the moon at midnight. Only a new icon was added to the screen with my updated information, but I can't help but wonder why access to something so basic is only possible through a skill after leveling up?

Be that as it may, now I can view my data without any problems, with the addition of new features.

When I had to click on the sun and moon only my type, titles, domain and skills appeared, which until now were observation lv1 and punishment which since I started this game was already at maximum novel I don't know why but now it has evolved to punishment I don't know why either, but it's a game, you know what the developers want to do.

The improved abilities had some very interesting little things compared to previous versions, as expected.

[Observation Lv.2

Your vision of the world of Kambavar is now broader and more comprehensive, and may be better in areas where you have influence or individuals willing to become your believers.]

[Punishment Lv.1

Those who erred must pay the price demanded by heaven and those who deserve justice.]

Both improvements are welcome, especially considering how boring things have been up until now, but we can all agree that the observation description is much more useful and objective than the punishment description. As a definition of what punishment is, it's good, but how can you be sure who deserves punishment, even if it was obvious in the case just now, it wouldn't always be that way, right?

And could it be that I'm giving too much importance to this game and being more... conscientious? in relation to NPCs than I should but this is something I've always done to feel good immersion in the game and I don't intend to stop now.

As if waiting for the cue for me to finish my introspection, a red exclamation icon appeared, indicating something that needed urgent attention.

I closed the flaps and soon the tavern appeared again, just in time to see the dead fatty's henchmen slowly heading towards the villagers, I imagine they were going slowly for fear of not knowing where the attack would come from, which made me involuntarily want to praise developers for creating AIs that were so adaptable and responded basically like normal people.

At the same time I remembered that they made me go through days without doing anything and without any kind of tutorial that left me in a directionless limbo although strangely pleasurable, but I still spent days without having any idea what to do, which is at least extremely frustrating. The desire to congratulate them quickly died.

But coming back, I soon paid attention to the tavern and the confusion happening there. The one on the noble's side, probably a captain or something like that, went up to the female figure that the noble was on top of before and put a sword to her throat and screamed at the villagers, illustrated by the angry emojis he showed , as well as the other henchmen.

....

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, after the (literal) pain I had to endure to help her, one of the idiots soon comes and puts her in danger again. It's not enough that if they had already seen their boss suffer (probably) and die, they still insisted on doing the same thing?!

Okay, so you guys are doomed.

The others who were outside also entered.

Which seemed to spark confidence in the others who moved forward with more desire

Not that it made much difference, I used 4 of my fingers and clicked on 4 henchmen at the same time, who immediately changed the emojis from anger and confidence to pain and fear.

This time I barely felt any pain, I felt something like a twinge but I used 4 fingers with my nails cut so it's not too surprising... could it be that the defect was just in one part of the screen or did it correct itself?

Well, it doesn't matter, I just kept clicking on them quickly, but now just with my index finger, as it was more comfortable and I got as good a result as with four fingers.

Now I didn't even feel anything and in a moment the henchmen also turned into black figures with bones on top, leaving only the captain, I didn't want to risk ending up clicking on the woman he was holding, so in addition to taking care of the mobs I was also giving time to see if anyone would take her away from him.

Unfortunately that didn't happen, but unexpectedly the captain himself (probably) dropped her and the sword, according to the emojis he was as scared as he was resolute and also... That's how I interpret it... Whining? Conformed? Something along the lines of acceptance?

.....

Well who am I to understand how an AI works, especially in a game script. So I just did what anyone would do in this case and just clicked on it until it died.

So he also became a "corpse"
