Chapter 46 - 46: Having Shown Their True Selves

Ning Shu clutched her chest and said, "Didn't you say you needed her? Why did you hurt her?"

Aren't you supposed to be in love with her?

"That's why I only aimed for her shoulder. She won't die," the school doctor replied casually, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Ning Shu thought: Are you sure you're not a pervert...?

This is seriously messed up. She couldn't figure out what this person was thinking at all. Meeting this guy had completely flipped her worldview upside down. What kind of twisted love-and-violence dynamic was this?

Though they had managed to escape this time, the cost was huge. She lost her pistol, and on top of that, she'd offended both the male and female leads—people with power in the underground world, backed by a lot of followers. Ning Shu knew things were only going to get harder from here.

"Uncle, you have to protect me," Ning Shu said pitifully. "My life is in serious danger. Those people are definitely going to come after me for revenge."

"Why should I help you? You're useless. Just being around you lowers my IQ," the school doctor replied coldly.

Ning Shu pulled a long face. "Uncle, you can't be like this. Aren't we comrades, at least?"

"I don't know you."

Ning Shu: …

Heartless. Cold. Straight-up rude.

From then on, Ning Shu didn't dare take any shortcuts on her way home. She practically lived at school, and every day after class, she'd run straight to the school doctor's office.

What shocked her was that just a few days after the incident, Ling Xue was back in class. Although her face was still a bit pale, she looked completely fine. Ning Shu was stunned.

Did Ling Xue take some kind of miracle pill? How was she already up and about like nothing happened?

When Ling Xue saw Ning Shu, she gave her a calm smile, which immediately sent a chill down Ning Shu's spine.

Ling Xue sat down in front of her, and Ning Shu watched cautiously, gripping her rickety desk as she squinted at Ling Xue's back.

They had shown each other their true faces. Neither of them was going to let the other off easily. Strangely, that realization made Ning Shu's fear lessen.

She touched the gun at her waist—the one the school doctor had given her for self-defense. It wasn't just any gun; it was special.

After class, Ling Xue laid her head down on her desk, appearing to nap. An Rong came over, concerned. "Ling Xue, are you alright?"

Ling Xue lifted her head and smiled weakly. "I'm fine."

An Rong immediately turned to Ning Shu. "Did you bully Ling Xue?"

Ning Shu: What the hell…

An Rong lifted her chin. "Are you looking for trouble? You actually dared to mess with Ling Xue?"

Ling Xue stood up and gently pulled An Rong back. "I'm fine. She didn't bully me."

An Rong sighed, exasperated. "Honestly, with a personality like yours, it's no wonder people pick on you. You never speak up."

When An Rong saw how frail Ling Xue seemed, she couldn't believe the rumors that Ling Xue had supernatural powers.

Lately, the whole school had been buzzing about Ling Xue's supposed powers. While An Rong had initially believed the gossip, seeing how delicate Ling Xue looked now made her think it was all nonsense.

"Let me tell you something. If you bully Ling Xue, you're bullying me, An Rong. And I won't let that slide, got it?" An Rong said, glaring down at Ning Shu.
