Chapter 41 - 41: When Facing a Bomb…

They followed Ling Xue all the way to a remote villa. The school doctor turned to Ning Shu and asked, "Girl, why are you looking at me like that?"

Ning Shu quickly averted her gaze, but she couldn't shake the label she'd given him—a pervert. Instead of wooing the female lead, he seemed intent on kidnapping her. Definitely not your typical hero.

The car in front came to a stop. The man lifted Ling Xue out and carried her into the building.

Ning Shu unbuckled her seatbelt and stealthily followed. She glanced over to see the school doctor standing tall, not even bothering to crouch for cover.

"What are you doing?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm hiding! You know, being sneaky? Now crouch down!" Ning Shu whispered urgently.

The school doctor chuckled coldly and sauntered into the villa. "There are no cameras here. Even if there were, your hiding skills are useless."

Ning Shu: …

She followed him inside, noticing the place looked deserted. Just then, voices drifted from the second floor. The school doctor pulled out his gun and crept up the stairs, with Ning Shu tiptoeing behind.

The chatter grew louder, accompanied by some… unexpected sounds. The school doctor cracked the door open, and Ning Shu peeked in, her mouth dropping open. What the heck? Wasn't the female lead injured? Why were they rolling around on the bed? She felt like she'd stumbled into a scene straight out of a romance novel.

Ling Xue, pushed to her limits, had no spiritual energy left, and her injury was excruciating. The fastest way to recover? Plucking yang to replenish yin. In the cultivation world, this was something only women practicing devilish techniques would resort to.

But the guy on top wasn't bad looking, so it wouldn't be a total loss. Plus, it might help with her recovery.

Ning Shu felt a surge of admiration for Ling Xue. In normal circumstances, wouldn't you bandage your wounds first?

The school doctor placed a hand on Ning Shu's head and pushed her behind him.

At that moment, the man on the bed turned his sharp gaze toward the door. The school doctor ducked out of sight. When the man looked back, there was no one there.

The school doctor kicked the door open, and Ning Shu rushed in after him.

"Where did they go?" she asked, confusion etched on her face.

The school doctor began searching the room. When he saw Ning Shu standing there, dumbfounded, he shook his head. "There's definitely some mechanism in here. Look for it."

Ning Shu nodded and started feeling around, frustrated. Why did the main characters always get to be so cool while she was stuck fumbling around like this?

The school doctor twisted a flower vase, and a hidden passageway appeared in the wall. He stepped inside, and Ning Shu hurried to follow.

The secret room was a simple corridor, dimly lit by a few oil lamps that cast eerie shadows.

As Ning Shu caught up with the school doctor, she heard a ticking sound ahead. What was that?

The school doctor quickened his pace, and Ning Shu noticed it was a bomb, numbers on its surface changing rapidly.

"Why is there a bomb here? Did Ling Xue leave it?" she asked, panic rising in her chest.

"Do you know how to defuse it?" she inquired, her heart racing.

"I know a little." The school doctor examined it—essentially just picked it up and looked at it—before beginning to take it apart.

Seeing his casual demeanor, Ning Shu couldn't help but ask, "You really know how to do this?"

"If you're worried, then you can do it." He tossed the bomb into Ning Shu's arms.

Ning Shu nearly jumped out of her skin and shoved it back at him. "No way! You take it. Hurry and defuse the bomb!"
