Inside the BMW, Eric Lance sped through the roads without stopping, breaking every traffic law he came across until he got to John's Cybercafe.
He stopped the car in front of the shop and waited for Jett's order.
In the backseat, Jett Adler stared outside, his eyes flickering from one point to the other as he searched for something.
After three minutes of careful observation, he looked away.
"Ask the cafe owner for a copy of their surveillance footage."
Eric nodded and alighted from the car. He disappeared inside the cafe for a few minutes before he returned.
He got into the car and passed a tablet to Jett.
Playing on the tablet was a footage taken 15 minutes ago. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until a man walked in and purchased five of their computers.
Jett replayed the scene twice before zooming in on the man. Unfortunately, he had his back turned to the camera and the second camera was too far away to capture what he looked like.
"What did the cafe owner say when you asked him about who he sold the computers to?"
Eric placed his hands on the steering wheel as he retorted, "A middle-aged man suddenly came in to buy 5 computers for some students who forgot their computers at home and had to turn in their thesis within the hour."
Jett didn't say anything for over three minutes as he repeatedly watched the footage again.
After a while, he turned off the tablet and tossed it beside him.
"Get the surveillance cameras of the stores nearby and the dashcams of the drivers who happened to be around when this happened."
"I will, Mr. Adler." Eric said and whipped out his phone to make a few calls.
When he was done, Jett glanced at the time on his wristwatch, "Do I have anything else on my schedule today?"
Eric glanced at him through the rear view mirror and nodded calmly.
"Just Wine invited you to their wine tasting which will be held by 6pm today in their company."
Jett mummed, "Just Wine? The wine company from Riveria?"
"Yes."
Jett's eyes narrowed thoughtfully before he said conclusively, "Take me there."
Eric nodded and started the car again.
Meanwhile, in the restaurant downstairs in the apartment building.
As the only restaurant in the 50-storey building, it was vast and wide since it had an entire floor allocated to it.
There were numerous stalls who sold various things. They had everything ranging from non-alcoholic drinks, snacks, baked foods, to alcoholic drinks, expensive foods and different kinds of wine.
It had everything that could be found in a standard supermarket.
Jesse Sutton stood in the middle of the busy place, his eyes flickering from one place to the other as he searched for Keira.
He had only delayed for three seconds before he chased after her, but because the elevator closed before he could get in, he had to spend a few more seconds waiting for the elevator to open again.
And when it did, people kept getting in and out of it at every floor. Hence, he got to the restaurant three minutes later than her.
Which was more than enough time for Keira to hide away from him. With the place being so big and with over a hundred people in it, it was nearly impossible for him to find her.
So as he stood in the midst of the hundreds of moving people, he was overwhelmed and didn't know where to go.
Behind him was a confectionary stall him and peeping through the glasses of what they had on display was a confused Daniel Adler who didn't know what to get.
"What do I buy? They are so many sweet things here that I can't decide which one I want. This strawberry cake looks good."
"There's donuts too. They even have mousse cake. And ice cream. Maybe I should get a bag of chips as well."
"I should get protein too, my brain's been lagging a lot today. It must be because of how nervous that tyrant keeps making me feel."
He wasted so much time talking to himself while looking over the things available that the barista felt the need to remind him he was yet to make a choice.
"Sir, have you decided what it is you want to get?"
Daniel looked up at her and was about to retort when two people behind him butted in angrily.
"Hey, you're not the only one who wants to get something. Only a retard comes to buy something without having in mind what it is they want to buy!"
"Most of us have more important things to do with our time. If you take the time to look at our outfits, you'd see we're all coming from work and extremely tired."
Daniel slipped his hands into his pocket and try turned to look at them with a small smile tugging the edge of his lips, "What is it you both want to get?"
Maybe it was the smile on his face, the two who spoke so rudely to him felt at ease telling him what they wanted.
"Pies with apple fillings. It's the only thing I crave right now. Just talking about it is already making my mouth so watery."
"Banana nuts flavored muffins. For some reason, I've been craving it since morning. None of the bakery shops around my workplace had it, so imagine how glad I was to find out that they still have some left here."
"Is that so?" A wicked grin suddenly spread across Daniel's face as he turned his attention back to the barista, "In that case, I'll get all the pies with apple fillings and all the banana nuts flavored muffins."
There was silence for a moment as it took the people behind him two seconds to realize what he meant.
"What?"
"What does this lunatic think he's doing!"
The two men yelled at him at once.
The female barista stared at him in surprise thinking he was joking, but after seeing him take out his card, she realized he was being serious and began packing up his order.
When the men saw this, they raised their voices and shouted angrily at the barista.
"You can't be serious! How could you sell them all to him? What about me?!"
"Will you be making to make another my banana nuts flavored fillings for me?"
Despite the attention they were bringing her, the barista flashed them an apologetic smile.
"We're sorry, but we've run out ingredients to make any more of whatever finishes today. Maybe you can check the next stall to see if they have what you're looking for."
The first man gritted his teeth and glared at her. "Are you kidding me, if they had it why would I stand behind your stall for thirty minutes!"
She lowered her eyes to the floor and apologized again.
"This is out of my hand, sir."
Even though he was being rude, she didn't fail to remember that the people who lived in the apartments weren't ordinary people.
Seeing there was nothing they could do, the men turned to Daniel and huffed in contempt.
But they were afraid to approach him because he was tall and muscular compared to them.
So they just cussed at him and left in rage.
"What a crazy lunatic!"
Daniel didn't mind and just took his orders to a table.
As he walked past the rest of the queue, a certain little girl followed after him with watery mouth.
He didn't realize he was being followed until he sat down on the table and saw someone sit opposite him.
"What? Who are you? Where are your parents?"
Keira Sutton didn't seem to hear a word he was saying as she kept her eyes pinned on the things on the table.
She had only realized it after she got down that she was too little to join the queue. Grown-ups were quite mean.
They kept ordering when it was clearly her turn simply because she didn't have a guardian with her.
But then she saw this good sir who had bought so many things.
If it wasn't for her good heart, she wouldn't even bother following him here to help him finish the many things he bought.
Seeing she kept looking at the leathers, he raised a brow and asked, "Are you hungry?"
Keira looked up at him and nodded, prompting him to reach into his leathers and laid out everything he had bought on the table.
Then he pushed them towards her and motioned for her to eat.
Keira first glanced around before she reached out and picked up a muffin. As she munched it hungrily, Daniel placed a hand on his chin and watched her with glossy eyes.
"Goodness, you really are. You're also adorable. Who would let such an adorable kid like you starve."
"What a lousy parent they are. When you're done eating, follow me to the security in front and we'd report your parents to the police."
"If they weren't going to take care of such a cute and innocent creature like you, why have you in the first place?"
"What a cute little mouth and cute nose you have. I don't even like muffins, but now I want to try it. And that adorable eyes. They're so clear and bright."
"Say, if your parents don't come for you after I inform the police, I'll ask that tyrant to let me adopt you. Can't have a sweet child like you wandering around."
"You're an adorable kid who eats well. Eat as much as you want. If you need more, I'll get more, okay?"
Keira raised her eyes to meet his and beamed happily between mouthfuls.
Seeing her beam so sweetly, Daniel couldn't hold himself any longer.
So he stretched his hand towards her and was about to pat her on the head when another child suddenly stood in front of him and knocked his hand away.
"Hey, don't touch my sister!"
