Kelsie only spent ten minutes in the supermarket shopping for a kiddies sized face caps and face masks.
Then she asked for directions towards a home grown strawberry farm and was directed to the stream four kilometers away from the supermarket.
The road was quite lonely, with less than three people walking past her by the time she got to the stream.
When she saw the stream, her eyes also settled on the greenish plant in an elevated ground a tad bit further from the stream.
There was an elderly man bent over inspecting it at the other end.
She didn't know who he was, but she greeted him and asked if she could take some for herself.
The elderly man nodded without stopping to glance up at her.
She took a few of the berries before she got up and turned around to leave.
However, she had only taken three steps forward when she suddenly saw him fall to the side.
Because the ground where the strawberries were growing was slightly elevated and he had his side to the stream as he bent over, when he fell to the side, he tumbled downward and fell straight into the stream.
Kelsie stopped and glanced back at him in confusion.
Did the old man suddenly decide to have a swim? But it was too early to do so and she was even freezing despite the thick clothes she had on.
She didn't think too much about it when she saw the man wasn't drowning, but she couldn't bring herself to walk.
Eventually, she glanced towards him again and narrowed her eyes at him. Only then did she realize he was lying with his face down into the stream.
And he wasn't drowning because he wasn't breathing.
Instantly, she tossed aside the things she had with her and dived into the stream without thinking twice.
She pulled him out and placed him on the ground then proceeded to give him CPR.
At this time, the day was brightening more and the road was getting a lot of passerbys who stopped and kept looking towards them.
"What's going on with him?"
"I saw him fall into the stream."
"I saw it too. If he can't swim, why be around such a vast body of water? What a senile old man!"
"Shouldn't we call for help?"
"What's the use? If he's going to die, then he would. It would take the ambulance at least ten minutes to get here. Does he look like he will last ten minutes?"
"Then I should call them so they can take his body with them. It'll be bad karma if a dead body remains here for more than an hour."
"Yeah, do that. I hear the government will be developing our neighborhood soon. Can't let something as miserly as the death of a stupid old man who drowned reduce the pricing."
The crowd of people grew by the second, but instead of assisting the dying man, they made sure to stand at a distance and gossip amongst themself.
Kelsie paid no heed to them and just kept applying pressure to his chest and supplying his lung with air by breathing into his mouth.
She did this for close to 7 minutes before the elderly man stirred and coughed out water from his lungs.
Almost immediately, they ambulance arrived and the elderly man was quickly placed on a stretcher and taken away.
Kelsie didn't leave immediately. She gathered her things before walking over to one of one of the paramedics.
"Patient suddenly blacked out in the middle of picking strawberries and fell into the stream. After performing CPR for 8 minutes, the patient regained consciousness."
"Do a full body check-up once you get to the hospital to know why he blacked out so suddenly."
She gave the report and order so smoothly that the paramedic just assumed she was a doctor and nodded.
As the paramedics left, the crowd were by themself in disbelief.
"I swear that man looked like he was halfway to the netherworld just now."
"Where did she go? Where did the lady who resuscitated him just now go? She was standing here just now. "
"Hey, is she a doctor? She looks so young I didn't believe she'd be able to help him. Don't people spend more than a decade in school?"
While they were looking around for her, Kelsie had already walked to the main road and flagged down a taxi.
Once she got in, she took out her phone from her pocket to see if she had any important emails.
She stopped scrolling and clicked on the email from the CEO of Lumen Group which was sent 30 minutes ago.
Jerry Sutton was calling an impromptu meeting.
For someone who was so eager to boot her out of the company, she was surprised he hadn't removed her from the people who got emails from the company.
It was probably because she had stayed abroad for the past seven years. Hence, she couldn't really join in the in-person meetings they held from time to time.
This was a good opportunity. She would use the chance to see what Jerry had turned her mother's prized establishment into.
"We're here, miss." The taxi driver snapped her out of the reverie when he got to the apartment building.
She paid him before alighting from the taxi.
As she walked towards the entrance of the building, her eyes subconsciously went to Jett Adler's empty the parking spot.
At the same time, Daniel's worlds from yesterday echoed in her head.
"Why do I keep thinking of that? It's impossible that a rude punk like that can be the father of my adorable children." She scoffed and got into the elevator.
The first thing that caught her eyes when she walked into the house was the various huge boxes in the living room.
But she didn't think too much about it since Zade was don of ordering things with her credit card.
She handed the strawberries to him and gave Keira the ice cream she bought downstairs, then she strolled into her room to get ready for the meeting.
The children watched her with nervous eyes as she then strolled into her room without suspecting a thing.
While she got ready for the meeting, Jesse walked into the room he shared with his siblings and glared hard at the man sitting obediently on the bed.
"Mommy seems to have an appointment. Stay put and don't make a peep. If my mommy finds out you came back after what happened yesterday, she'll do more than what she did yesterday!"
Daniel recalled what happened yesterday and instinctively crossed his arms around his chest before nodding obediently.
"Don't worry. I may be stupid, but I know better than to put my niece and nephews in trouble!"
Jesse dramatically face palmed himself and gave him a stern look.
"There he goes again! Take this as a kind advice from a sensible kid. Take a trip to the hospital and do an extensive brain scan. Because something seems to be wrong with yours."
As he spoke sternly, he knitted his brows tightly and had a blank look in his eyes.
Daniel was ultimately reminded of when he'd cause trouble and Jett would ask him to lie low while he took care of it.
This was the same look he always had on. Hence, the man couldn't helt, but nod his head vigorously.
Jesse heard Kelsie's door opening and hurried out of the room.
Kelsie walked into the living room in a sky blue tuxedo suit with bootcut pants.
When she saw her children staring at her with their big, glossy eyes, she still didn't suspect a thing and bent to their level with a small smile.
"Mommy has to go somewhere for a few hours, okay? Don't open the door for anyone. There's three boxes of pizza on the island. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay, mommy. Bye, mommy." Keira and Zade were so nervous they bade her farewell at once and with the exact same words.
Kelsie did find it a bit weird, but she nodded and kissed them on the forehead then she glanced around for Jesse.
"Where's your brother?"
"Right here, mommy. I went to get pen from the room." Jesse emerged from behind her, waving a pen around.
Unlike his siblings, Jesse was the most calm and collected.
Sensing nothing amiss, Kelsie planted a kiss on their foreheads before she turned to leave. But she had just taken a step forward when the loud sound of a phone ringing filled the entire house.
It was coming from the children's room.
