"Everything is going to be okay," he reassured her, his voice low and soothing. "You're safe now."
Charlotte felt a shiver run down her spine as she met Wesley's gaze. There was something in his eyes that made her feel like he was looking right through her, to the very heart of her fears and insecurities.
Wesley's eyes narrowed as he listened to the doctor's diagnosis. "Post-traumatic stress disorder?" he repeated, his voice laced with skepticism. "That's impossible. I had her examined before we signed the contract. She didn't have any of these... issues."
The doctor's expression was sympathetic. "Sometimes, these conditions can be triggered by specific events or situations. It's possible that whatever happened to her recently may have brought on these symptoms."
Wesley's gaze snapped to Charlotte, who was watching him with a mixture of fear and wariness. He strode over to her bedside, his eyes blazing with intensity.
