She groggily got out of bed and made her way to the door, expecting it to be Nellie with some forgotten question or concern. But to her surprise, it was a hotel staff member, holding a small package in his hand.
"Miss Charlotte, this was delivered to the front desk earlier tonight," he said, handing her the package. "It's from Mr. Jameson."
Charlotte's heart skipped a beat as she took the package from the staff member. What could Wesley have sent her?
She waited until the staff member had left before opening the package. Inside, she found a small, exquisitely crafted music box, adorned with intricate patterns and gemstones. A small note was attached to the box, with a message scrawled in Wesley's familiar handwriting.
"Dear Charlotte," the note read. "I hope you're enjoying your stay on Eruba. I wanted to send you something to remind you of me, and of the promises I made to you. You're safe, and you're mine. Always remember that. -Wesley"
