Chereads / My CEO: How Weiwei Became the Perfect Wife / Chapter 30 - When the moon is full, it begins to wane

Chapter 30 - When the moon is full, it begins to wane

Weiwei was twisting and turning in her bed. After what had happened between her and Qi at the airport, it was impossible to sleep. She was thinking about the kiss, she was wondering where Qi's plane was at the moment, she was thinking about how she was going to miss him and how they would meet when he gets back.

No more useless Weiwei! She doesn't exist anymore. Not that she ever existed. In fact, I no longer care about what anyone in the world thinks about me. Nothing matters other than what he and I think of ourselves. What does it matter what other people do or think? It's their business. If we lived on a desert island, and there was no one around, would we care? No, of course, we wouldn't. So why should we now? My life is only about things that matter to me, and whether I'm happy. Unfortunately, I have no family, so does he. But it also means that we can live our lives guided only by our happiness.

She thought all the way back to the day when she was sitting on the rock above Xīnchéngshì harbor contemplating suicide, and shuddered inside.

What was I thinking! I could've missed all of this. I would've never known happiness! Of course, the path to happiness is long and torturous, but what I felt today is worth every bit of suffering I had to endure along the way.

She thought of the surge of electricity she had experienced when she kissed Qi, how the whole world exploded with color and sound, which were still flooding her, even now.

I like him! I really like him!

How can I possibly sleep!

"Come with me, quickly," Yihan waved to Weiwei.

Weiwei got up from her chair.

Let's pause daydreaming for a bit.

"What's going on?" she asked, smiling.

Yihan wasn't the affable self. She kept walking.

Is she angry with me? What did I do?

To her surprise, Weiwei found that Yihan led her to Director Zhang's office.

"Close the door," Director Zhang told Yihan once they walked in.

His face wasn't cheery either, not that it ever was particularly cheery, but Weiwei was more used to his neutral expression.

Director Zhang surveyed Weiwei and Yihan with a heavy glare before speaking.

"I need to know everything – I repeat, absolutely everything – that either one of you told Lántiān Group," he growled. Weiwei could see one of the veins on his forehead throbbing more prominently than usual.

"As I told you earlier, I emailed them the report you asked me to finalize, and haven't spoken with them until their CFO called me that day," said Yihan.

"And you didn't talk to their accounting?" the Director's nostrils flared like those of a bull ready to charge.

"No, I didn't," said Yihan.

Weiwei noticed that both Yihan and Director Zhang were looking at her.

What's going on?

"What about you, Weiwei?" Director Zhang asked slowly.

"Me?" Weiwei stared. "I didn't even know the report was sent."

The Director's nostrils flared even more. "And you didn't talk to anyone at Lántiān?"

"No."

Director Zhang exploded from his chair. "How is that possible! Can one of you explain to me why the client would be cancelling their contract with our firm because of an unprofessional audit – and neither one of you even talked to them!" He spoke stomping around the desk until he ended up in front of Yihan and Weiwei. "Can one of you explain that to me?"

Weiwei was lost for words. First of all, she had never seen Director Zhang in such a rage. And second, she couldn't fully understand what he was trying to say. She grasped that there was a problem with Lántiān Group, but the rest felt fuzzy to her.

"I don't have enough information," said Yihan somberly.

"You don't have enough information!" chuckled Director Zhang. "You are the Senior Accountant on the audit, and you don't have enough information? Then who should provide you with the information? Maybe me? Maybe I should be doing everyone's job?"

"What I know is that their CFO told me that our comments in the report created concerns among their shareholders," continued Yihan raising her voice as she spoke. "There was no mention of unprofessional audit, or anything of the sort."

"Really! Then where did the complaint come from?" Director Zhang thrust his hands onto his hips. "Ah? Weiwei, I want to hear your explanation!"

Mine? Why would you want to hear my explanation? I don't even know what exactly happened.

"I don't know," said Weiwei feebly. "Director Zhang, could you please explain what happened?"

The director shook his head. "What I don't like the most is when people don't take responsibility for their failure." He glared at Weiwei. "The Lántiān Group – our largest account – is no longer our client!" he exclaimed. "Now what I want to know is which one of you triggered this mess and what can we do to stop it!"

"They terminated us as their auditors?" Yihan looked very surprised.

"Yes! That's what I just said," fumed Director Zhang. He looked at Weiwei again. "So, what can you tell us now?"

They think they lost the most important client because of me? Wasn't it Yihan who signed off on the report? But how could I blame her, if I don't know whether she's done anything wrong?

"I don't even know their phone number," Weiwei said softly to avoid enraging Director Zhang even further.

"Then who? And what did they do exactly?" demanded Director Zhang.

Yihan and Weiwei silently looked at each other. Director Zhang waved his arm at them in frustration.

"I'm summoned to the Third Tower for an emergency meeting first thing in the morning," he said, returning to his desk. "You have until then to figure it out. Go! Both of you!"
