Ethan came back from his business trip and as he walked in, Emilia hugged him. Her husband had gone on a business trip for two weeks now and she had really missed him a lot.
"Darling welcome back home."
"My sweet honey pie, I guess you've missed me so much, don't you?" Ethan asked, kissing her lips. The kiss got deep and Emilia quickly broke it.
"Ethan we shouldn't start anything here. The bedroom is the appropriate place for this." She cautioned him, amidst laughter. Even though the couples are quite old, they still played lovey-dovey and were so fond of eachother despite being married for 33 years now.
Back then in highschool, Emilia was a lover girl who had a crush on Ethan and she would always put love letters in between his textbooks and even in his locker: but he really played hard to get until he couldn't hide his feelings anymore and confessed his love for her.
Alexander also came to welcome his dad and Ethan patted his back.
"It's just two weeks ago I left and take a look at your cheeks, uh? Just how many things have you fed him with? You're really spoiling this boy." He complained, facing Emilia.
"Dad, I'm the last child and who else should be spoilt if not I." Alexander whined.
"I see you really deserved to be spoilt just the same way your results deserve some A's too." Ethan said put of sarcasm.
Alexander heaved a sigh. Does his dad have to remind him of not being good at his studies?
"Dad you just came back from a trip you really need rest. I'll usher you to your room now." He took his hand and pulled him along but when he saw Monalisa come downstairs he halted, putting on a boring expression as she walked closer to them.
"Welcome back from your trip, sir." She greeted Ethan with a curt bow.
"Ethan that's Monalisa, our new daughter." Emilia informed him. They had already spoken about adopting a daughter and he knew about Emilia bringing Monalisa to the house.
"Ohh come give daddy a hug " He opened his arms and Monalisa embraced him. "I just hope you'd be able to endure your brother's annoying attitude."
"It's nothing, dad." Lisa gave a smile, she had experienced more annoying people at the orphanage so Alexander was no big deal. She knows how to handle him.
Alex gave her a contemptuous look and his face curled up into a frown. He wanted to be the only one to be cherished and pampered but his selfish desires couldn't be fulfilled because Monalisa was here. He doesn't remember complaining not having a sister and he wondered why his mom would bring one for him.
"I'll throw a welcome party for her tomorrow just to welcome her I'm a grand style." Emilia informed Ethan and he nodded in agreement.
"That's nice. You should invite the others too. I'll speak to the principal of Alexander's school and she can start tomorrow." He said and Monalisa hugged him again.
"Thank you dad."
Alexander scoffed, turning to his mom. "Do we have to go to the same school?"
"Of course yes, she's your sister and there's nothing wrong with that. Don't be silly." Emilia slapped his arm and he squeezed his face.
"She mustn't report you to me or else I wouldn't hesitate to punish you. We'll be on our room now, you both can spend some time together." She wrapped her arm around Ethan's waist as they both went to their room.
Alexander rolled his eyes at Lisa before walking out of the house. He doesn't want to start any form of conversation with her, he's just so annoyed. What does he want to discuss with someone who's trying to steal his position?
Monalisa watched as he walked out of the living room and after a while she traced him to the basketball court which was at the back of the house and calmly sat down, watching him play with so much vigor and anger.
She could bet that he was a very skilled player and she feels so excited to see that he was good at basketball just like her. She was so talented and she often won for her team at the orphanage.
Alexander finally stopped after playing for some minutes. He wiped the dripping sweats gathered on his forehead as he breathed heavily. He turned around to leave only to see Monalisa seated peacefully.
He squinted his brows. "You've been watching me all these while."
Monalisa gave him a swift nod. "Yes, I witnessed you let out your anger. You're afraid I'm here to steal your shine?" She asked him, looking all serious.
Her words made him chuckle. She should be so stupid to think he would stop so low to do that. He moved closer to her and closed the gap between them.
Monalisa didn't feel frightened by him at all and she remained at the same spot, her gaze fixed on him.
"Who told you I was afraid? I was simply playing basketball." He denied.
"And who 'simply' plays basketball like that?" She emphasised.
"It's none of your business if I play calm or fiercely. Stick to yourself and don't follow me around." He snapped at her. Nevertheless, the girl gave him a smile and it shook his heart, making him swallow nothing in particular.
"Brother, why don't we play together?" Monalisa asked, picking up the ball from the ground.
Alexander scoffed and pointed at her. "Are you trying to show your ability?"
"Did I mention that? You sure love to assume things. Is there a crime in playing with you?"
He flung the ball away. "Monalisa, this is your first day here, I wouldn't want you to cry." He told her.
"And why would I do that?" She was curious to know.
"No adjective can qualify my skills, calling it 'excellent' would be a big understatement." He boasted.
"And then…" Monalisa paused, picking up the ball again. "I would love to cry."
