Chapter 23 - Chapter Twenty - Three; Hiding in the Shadows: The Safehouse of Outcasts

The atmosphere in the safehouse was thick with fear and uncertainty. The once safe world of secrecy and balance had been torn apart after Gloria's revelation.

Now, the group of young supernaturals sat together in one of the council's most secure hideouts, unsure of what awaited them.Gloria sat quietly in the corner, her mind racing.

Every decision she'd made over the past few days seemed to spiral into chaos. She had intended to liberate them from hiding, to expose the truth in a way that could lead to better understanding between humans and supernaturals.

But now, they were the ones hiding, and the world seemed more dangerous than ever. The room was filled with a diverse collection of supernaturals.

Each had been handpicked for protection, representing a different faction or powerful bloodline.

Duke, her brother, leaned against the wall, his face a mask of calm, but Gloria knew better.

Even he couldn't hide the dread creeping into his eyes. It had been hours since the banshee's scream, Shelia's haunting wail had pierced through the thick silence of the room, an announcement of the death of everyone.

It was a prophecy none could ignore.Sheila, the banshee, sat near the window, still trembling from the vision.

Her silver hair fell across her face as she rocked back and forth. No one dared to speak to her after her outburst, when a banshee announced death, it was never taken lightly.

Across from her, Kain, a hybrid Alpha wolf, paced impatiently. His animalistic energy radiated through the room, his piercing eyes scanning every corner as though expecting an attack at any moment.

He had been silent since the scream, his jaw clenched tightly as he fought to control his rage. "I hate this waiting," he growled under his breath, though loud enough for everyone to hear.

Mira, the witch, sat cross-legged on the floor beside Kain, her eyes closed as she murmured incantations under her breath.

She had been trying to locate their parents or anyone from the council, but all attempts had failed. Whatever was happening in the world outside had thrown the magical balance into disarray.

Then there was Duke. Her brother had always been the calmest in any crisis, but even he seemed strained now.

His vamplock blood made him naturally composed, but Gloria knew the tension was getting to him. He kept his face neutral, refusing to show any weakness to the others in the room.

The room was a microcosm of the supernatural world, consisting of beings that would normally never interact so closely.

A druid, Oisin, stood by the fire, his wooden staff glowing faintly as he worked to keep the wards around the safehouse intact.

Beside him, Alestra, a Kakran, an ancient sea-dwelling race rarely seen on land, appeared out of place in the dry, airless room, her skin shimmering in the dim light.

Then there was Jax, the demon. He was lounging lazily on one of the couches, his dark eyes scanning the room with a mixture of amusement and boredom.

Despite his outward nonchalance, the tension in the air affected him, too.

His wings twitched every so often, betraying his unease.Eragon, the fairy who had become Gloria's confidant and secret love, stood near the door, his face grim.

He had been in and out of contact with the council, but even he couldn't get through.

Something was blocking their communication. He had taken it upon himself to watch over Gloria, though she could sense his frustration at being unable to do more.

The elf, Elera, sat at the table, her fingers tracing the wood grain as she stared into space.

Elves were known for their connection to nature, but even she seemed cut off from the outside world.

Her ethereal calm was starting to crack, and Gloria could see the worry in her eyes.

And finally, there was her. Gloria, the Moon Wolf Goddess reborn, whose very presence in the room was the cause of much of the tension.

She had been quiet since they arrived at the safehouse, her mind weighed down by the enormity of what had happened.

She knew that the world was hunting them now, supernatural and human alike.

The balance had been shattered, and she was the focal point of it all.

As the banshee's scream echoed in her mind, Gloria couldn't help but wonder who exactly Sheila had foreseen dying.

Was it their parents? The council? Or perhaps all of them? The scream had been so final, so certain, that it sent shivers down Gloria's spine every time she thought about it.

"We can't stay here forever," Kain growled, breaking the silence again. "The longer we hide, the more vulnerable we become."Duke nodded, his voice calm but firm.

"The council will come for us. We just have to wait. Moving now could expose us to more danger.""The council…" Jax scoffed, sitting up and stretching his wings.

"And what if they don't come? What if they're already dead?"Mira opened her eyes slowly, her voice soft but filled with tension.

"We have to prepare for the possibility that we're on our own."Gloria looked at Eragon, his eyes meeting hers.

They both knew the truth, things would never go back to the way they were. They were in the middle of a war they hadn't asked for, and there was no telling who would survive.

But one thing was certain: they couldn't hide forever. The world was changing, and soon they would have to face it.
