Michael walked into the customer support center calmly. The department looked so empty, with only one staff member remaining as the day's hours drew to a close.
The staff member remaining in the department was a lady, and she had her attention on the computer screen before her.
"Good afternoon, Miss. I need assistance with my account," Michael explained as he approached her.
The lady raised her head and scrutinized Michael with a cold glance. Her face contorted in disgust, and she returned her gaze to the computer screen.
Judging Michael by his outfit, she felt he wasn't worth her time. She stayed behind because of the big names who visit the bank when it's almost empty.
After attending to them, she could stylishly ask for tips. Meanwhile, Michael looked so poor. He wasn't included among the group of people for whom she stayed behind.
"I only want you to check my account balance..." Michael was explaining when the lady snapped at him.
"Allow me to breathe, young man. The bank is closed for today; you can visit at another time!" she shouted at him.
Michael was taken aback by the lady's outburst. "But what I requested wouldn't take five minutes of your time."
"Oh, you think so?" she nodded with curled lips.
"I won't repeat myself. The bank is closed for today. Moreover, why don't you check your account balance on your phone? Do you have to trouble the bank staff just because of the penny in your account?"
Michael bit his lower lip in anger. He wondered why she had to be so unprofessional.
"You can leave my office. I've attended to you," she said dismissively.
The door to the department was pushed open, and Austin and Hannah stomped in.
The couple had searched around the bank looking for Michael until they found him there.
The staff who had been acting so disrespectfully toward Michael hurriedly got to her feet to welcome Austin.
"Welcome, Mr. Graham. How can I help you?" Austin was the son of a billionaire in the city. He deserved her respect. After all, he was in the league of the kind of customers she was waiting for.
Austin's eyes were red and scornful. "Caroline, I hope you haven't granted the loan this wastrel came for," he asked disdainfully, glaring at Michael.
Caroline's brows raised slightly. She thought the loser had come for a loan. He was only trying to get her attention by requesting something else instead.
"No, sir. I work very cautiously. Moreover, we don't give loans to paupers who can't afford to pay them back," she replied mockingly.
Austin was satisfied to hear that, and then he said to Michael, "Since I have denied your access to the loan, I don't need to lay my hands on you to punish you. By the time hunger grabs you, you will die like a bat in a few days!"
Austin and his girlfriend burst into roaring laughter while Michael glared at their foolishness.
"You loser! You've gone mute now? Who's now the worthless person here?" Hannah asked contemptuously.
Michael glared at her and responded, "Who else if not the both of you?"
Austin's fury returned immediately. He clenched his fist tightly with gritted teeth. "If it weren't prohibited to fight here, I would have destroyed you right now! How dare you?!" Austin posed a fist at Michael.
At that moment, the sound of heels echoed. A woman in her early fifties walked in. She wore a black high-quality suit that looked perfect on her. Despite her age, her beauty was still top-notch.
She was the manager of Silvana City Bank and also a highly respected lady in the city. Behind her were two bulky security men.
"What's going on here?" she asked in dissatisfaction.
Caroline began to stammer, "Yes, ma'am. It was... just a little misunderstanding between... the young men."
Caroline knew it was against bank rules to watch two customers fight. Meanwhile, she had turned a blind eye to the situation because of Austin.
She had no idea what caused the brawl between the duo. But as long as Austin was embarrassing Michael, she was pleased with it.
"Mrs. Thomas, this loser is known for barging into places and causing trouble. He came to cause chaos in your establishment. Permit me to beat him out of here!" Austin requested rudely.
Juliana Thomas, the manager of the bank, knew of Austin's ill manners. He was the most spoiled child of the Graham family, popularly known for his hooliganism and bad manners.
The manager patted his shoulder and urged, "Violence doesn't solve issues; it only makes things worse."
Then she turned to the other man to settle the matter amicably. "Young man..."
As soon as Juliana saw Michael, she froze. "Wel...come, welcome, Mr. Quinn," she stuttered in fear and bowed to him.
