Chapter 30 - In the Heart of the Mystery

In the Alset dining room, filled with rustic charm, Lynna, Roan, and their newfound ally, Wil, gathered around a sturdy wooden table. Fresh milk was served in tall glasses by Mister Alset. The room buzzed with the children's activities as they got down to business.

Earlier, Lynna and Roan had found Wil checking his family's fields, and without hesitation, they shared the details of their disturbing discovery in the forest. The altar and the signs of recent use. Wil, with a furrowed brow and a keen sense of responsibility towards his village, quickly agreed to lend his aid.

Wil, folding his arms, asked, "How did you both stumble upon this in the first place?"

Lynna, taking a deep breath, explained, "Roan asked some questions and it led him there."

Roan added, "Never seen anything like it. It's hidden, sure, but it's still an altar of stone in the forest..."

Wil raised an eyebrow in an exaggerated manner, clearly perplexed. "Cultists? Here? Most of our folk are simple farmers and merchants. It's hard to believe anyone would be involved in such activities."

Roan shrugged, "Dunno, but ain't nothing good that comes from such secretive practices."

Lynna sighed, "We need to find out who they are and what they want. But we have to approach this wisely."

Wil's gaze lingered on the table for a moment, as if lost in thought, before refocusing. "It's indeed concerning."

Pondering a solution, Wil asserted, "We should keep an eye on that location. If they've used it once, odds are they'll return."

Lynna nodded in agreement, her mind racing with possibilities. "Yes, surveillance is key. But we must be discreet. If they suspect they are being watched, they might abandon the site, and we'll lose our chance to uncover their intentions."

Roan, leaning back in his chair, added in his familiar tone, "And we'd best be takin' turns keepin' watch. Don't wanna be caught nappin' if they decide to show up."

Wil considered this, his eyes sharp. "True, but we also need to think that this could last for several days. We can't keep watch indefinitely. We should reach out to the neighboring farms, see if they can provide some support, maybe a place to rest or a hot meal."

Lynna's eyes lit up at the idea. "That's a good point. We could ask for some help at the Gibbins' farm"

Roan, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, chimed in, "Aye, and it'd be a good idea to have more eyes on this. The more of us standin' together, the less chance these cultists have of gettin' what they want."

The trio delved deeper into their planning, discussing logistics, timings, and contingency plans. As the hours wore on, their plan took shape—a bold strategy to surprise and confront the cultists directly.

"We'll take them by surprise," Lynna declared, her voice filled with determination. "Catch them in the act, and remind them of the law."

And as the last light of day faded away, the group decided to split up. Lynna and Roan headed back to their own home, while Wil remained at his family's farm. They agreed to meet up the next day in town to finalize their preparations and set their plan into motion.
