Chapter 57 - Chapter 56

Nate was only trying to scare Ultear, of course, he wouldn't actually post the photo on a forum.

When he saw her immediate apology, he couldn't help but laugh.

Sigma Man: [Are you scared now?]

Pain Witch: [I don't believe you'll post it, rolling eyes.jpg]

Sigma Man: [Then I'll show it to your mom, smiling.jpg]

Pain Witch: [You wouldn't dare! If you do, I'll never send anything again! Hmph.jpg]

Sigma Man: [Not interested. Pouting.jpg]

The chat paused for a minute, but then Ultear sent another message.

Pain Witch: [Lifting skirt.jpg]

The picture she sent this time was still of her long legs in black stockings. However, she deliberately lifted the hem of her skirt, pulling it up just enough to make it dangerously close to exposing something more. The sight was irresistible, capturing Nate's attention like a black hole.

Without hesitation, he saved the image.

Sigma Man: [That's it? Knocking wooden fish.jpg]

Nate suspected that if he pressed just a little more, she might send something even more daring.

Meanwhile, over in the mansion where the Council was located, Ultear was sitting in her bedroom. She blushed as she read his message.

When she first began talking to Nate, it was through forum replies, and at first, she had ulterior motives. But now, things were different. She genuinely enjoyed their conversations, which had lasted over 120 days.

Earlier that day, she had spoken with her mother, Ur, and cleared up the misunderstandings they once had. Even though her mother was just a ghost, Ultear felt happy and content. She hoped one day they could fully reunite.

And all of this had been made possible because of Nate.

That's why she felt bolder about sending photos now.

"Still not satisfied?" she muttered to herself, biting her lip as she read Nate's response. Determined not to lose this little game, she quickly typed out a new message.

Pain Witch: [Come to the Council, brother. I'll show you something better in person~ naughty.jpg]

...

Nate chuckled as he lay in the bathtub, somewhat disappointed that Ultear hadn't escalated the situation.

But when he saw her new message, it piqued his interest.

Sigma Man: [I heard the Council might nominate me for the Holy Ten?]

Suddenly, he switched from playful flirting to a serious topic.

It took Ultear a while to respond, as though she was caught off guard.

Pain Witch: [I did ask the Speaker, and yeah, it seems to be true.]

Pain Witch: [But the Holy Ten is full right now, brother, so you'll have to wait~]

Pain Witch: [Still, it's impressive! You're being considered for the Holy Ten just because of your groundbreaking magic. It's the first time in magical history.]

Nate stroked his chin. Though a title like the "Holy Ten" didn't increase his actual magic power, it still felt nice to be recognized.

Sigma Man: [Maybe it won't be long.]

Pain Witch: [I'll vote in your favor for sure! Don't forget to say, "Thank you, sister~"!]

Nate thought to himself that by the time Jellal's plans came to fruition, the current Council might no longer exist. Then again, with Ultear reconciling with her mother, she might act differently and not destroy the Council.

He realized that without meaning to, he had altered several key events in this world.

As he mused over this, another message popped up from Ultear.

Pain Witch: [By the way, have you mastered the Thought Projection spell yet?]

Pain Witch: [Come to the Council HQ, I'll teach you in person~ And not just magic either~]

Sigma Man: [I don't believe you! You won't even send a proper picture, and now you say you can teach me more than magic? Pouting.jpg]

Pain Witch: [Sister's going to sleep now! Beauty sleep is important! Moon emoji.jpg]

Ultear went offline, and Nate couldn't help but grin. She had run off again.

Her mention of the Thought Projection spell reminded him of his next project—developing Magic Network Express. But before that, he needed to learn Thought Projection properly so the projection could do all the coding for him.

"This spell seems more complicated than I expected," Nate muttered to himself, determined to master it within two weeks.

He opened the stolen magic book Juvia had helped him find and flipped to the page on Thought Projection. Frowning slightly, he began reading.

Following the instructions, he closed his eyes and attempted to separate a part of his soul, but it didn't work.

Frustrated, Nate considered asking the guild master for advice. Just then, Ur appeared, emerging from the deep net.

"Huh? Lord Knight, are you taking a bath?" she said, surprised at first. But then she smiled mischievously, "Need me to scrub your back?"

Nate rolled his eyes. "You're a ghost; don't offer things you can't do."

Ur chuckled. "I saw the magic book you're reading. You're trying to learn Thought Projection?"

Nate nodded, "I've been at it for a while, but no luck."

"This is high-level magic," Ur explained. "To succeed, you need either immense magic power or exceptionally strong mental strength."

That reminded Nate of someone—Robaul, the guild master of Cait Shelter. He had enough mental strength to project an entire guild, and he wasn't even alive.

"Why do you need Thought Projection, though?" Ur asked, curious. "It's hard to master, but not that useful in combat."

"It's not for combat…"

Nate explained his plan to have the projection write code for him, essentially being lazy.

"I see, you just want to slack off," Ur teased.

"..."

"Luckily for you," Ur said with a grin, "there's an easier way."

Under her guidance, Nate adjusted his method, and soon, he succeeded.

A faint projection of himself appeared beside the bathtub.

Nate studied it and frowned. "Its eyes are dull, it doesn't move, and there's no magic power. It's just an empty shell."

While other people's projections acted independently, his seemed lifeless. He had to manually control it, which defeated the purpose.

Ur laughed. "It's the weakest Thought Projection I've ever seen! Haha!"

"Hey, I just learned it!" Nate shot back, annoyed. "And it's good enough for writing code!"

"You learned it in a few days?"

Nate shrugged. "About two or three days, I think? People said it was tough, but it's not that bad."

Ur was speechless. Was this the world of genius mages?

The next day, after a warm send-off from the maids and Jiude, Nate and Lucy rode Obsidian back to Magnolia.
