The bright moon hung in the vast night sky like a flawless mirror, casting a soft silver glow that brought a sense of tranquility and poetry to Magnolia's peaceful night.
The hotel room, though simple and far from the luxurious mansion she was used to, felt surprisingly comforting to Ultear. It was as if her once empty heart had finally found a home. With a contented smile, she rested her head on the arm of the person beside her.
Her clothes, along with her discarded underwear, were scattered across the wooden floor, while the bed remained in pleasant disarray. Ultear's voice was soft and lazy, her tone carrying a hint of seduction.
"Is this how you discuss serious matters with your sister?"
Knight chuckled, his fingers gently tracing the smooth line of her back, her skin soft like cream. "You were calling me brother just a moment ago. Now, you're my sister again?"
Ultear smiled, both shy and playful, feeling a mix of emotions. This stubborn brother… relentless like a bull.
"I want to see Uru," she murmured, half-leaning on Knight, her voice carrying a trace of nervousness.
Knight, pulling away slightly, got up, tossed the blanket aside, and started looking for his clothes on the floor. "Now?"
As he dressed, he glanced back at Ultear, who remained sprawled on the bed. This isn't exactly how a reunion with her mother should look, he thought with a smirk.
Excited, Ultear jumped out of bed, embracing him from behind and planting a kiss on his cheek. "Sister loves you~," she teased, her heart brimming with joy.
"If you don't get dressed, we won't be going anywhere tonight," Knight replied with mock exasperation.
He was fully aware of his physical capabilities as a 20-year-old man, but considering it was Ultear's first time, he'd held back.
After a bit of playful teasing, the two dressed and left the hotel together.
"Where are you taking your sister?" Ultear asked as they stepped into the quiet streets.
"Home," Knight replied.
Ultear paused, surprised. Home… It was a word she hadn't associated with herself in years, not since her mother had abandoned her. But now, the word carried a nostalgic weight. She smiled softly, her heart warming at the thought.
It was past ten in the evening, the streets deserted, bathed only in the soft glow of moonlight as Knight led her through the town. They made their way to a modest house on the outskirts of Magnolia, far from the hustle of the guild.
When they arrived, Ultear eyed the small house in front of her with curiosity. "You live here?"
Knight smirked. "What, don't like a house that costs 50,000 J per month?"
She giggled. "Need some money? I could give you some." She followed him inside with a playful smile, adding, "Don't worry, I don't mind."
As they stepped into the house, Ultear's gaze fell on another version of Knight, sitting at a low table, typing mechanically. His face was emotionless, moving like a puppet.
"A thought projection?" Ultear asked in surprise, glancing at the real Knight beside her.
Knight nodded. "Yeah, it's the tool I use to update the Internet."
Ultear burst into laughter, holding her stomach. "This is the weakest thought projection I've ever seen! Haha!"
Her laughter reminded Knight of Ultear's mother. They shared the same sense of humor. With a thought, the projection disappeared, its task complete, merging back into Knight's body.
"Still want to see your mother?" Knight asked, amused.
Ultear quickly stifled her laughter. "Sorry, don't be mad," she said, feeling a bit guilty for mocking the projection.
Knight activated his magic, calling Uru from the deep web. Moments later, a ghostly figure emerged beside him.
"I've reviewed the chat logs from the [leader]. The Six Demon Generals have headed to the Gas Tree…" Uru began her report, but her voice faltered when she noticed Ultear standing by the door.
The mother and daughter stood in silence, simply staring at each other, the air heavy with unspoken words.
Sensing the tension, Knight quickly excused himself. "Your daughter came to see you. You two should talk. I'll go take a shower."
Once Knight left the room, Ultear's voice broke the silence. "Mom…" she whispered, her eyes brimming with tears. She wanted to run to her mother, to throw herself into her arms, but when she tried, her body passed right through the ghostly figure.
"Ultear, I'm so happy to see you've grown up strong and healthy," Uru said softly, her own tears shining in her ethereal eyes.
…
The next day, Knight arrived at the guild alone. The tavern was busier than usual, the air buzzing with excitement.
Erza, normally clad in armor, was rushing out the door wearing a burgundy evening dress. Knight blinked, surprised at how feminine she looked. "Erza, what's going on?"
"I don't have time to explain! You're next to get ready, Knight!" Erza called over her shoulder as she disappeared out the door.
Knight turned to Natsu, who was also looking confused. "Is there a festival or something?"
Natsu shrugged, crossing his arms. "Beats me."
Happy, perched nearby, counted on his fingers. "The Harvest Festival isn't for another two months… So it's not that."
Levy rushed over with Jet and Troy in tow. "Knight! Don't you know? Weekly Sorcerer is coming to interview us today!"
"The famous magazine?" Knight asked, realization dawning. He recalled seeing it a few times in bookstores after first arriving in Magnolia.
"Yep!" Levy confirmed with a grin. "They're doing a special feature on Fairy Tail. The reporter even requested to talk to you."
"To me?" Knight blinked. "But I haven't done many missions. Why me?"
Jet chimed in. "It's about the magazine moving to the Internet."
Troy added, "Yeah, their editor wants to launch an online version."
Knight was impressed. He hadn't expected anyone to realize the potential of the Internet so soon.
Levy asked, "By the way, did that councilor leave yesterday? Is the issue with the Six Demon Generals resolved?"
Knight sighed and scratched the back of his head. "Not exactly. She's… still investigating."
In truth, Ultear was currently sleeping at his house.
