Chapter 1 - Still Waiting

"Hello, my name is Garry, 19 years old. I was at my house in South Carolina waiting for my mother to come home. It was 9:00 PM, and I was playing a game on my newly bought PS5. I played it nonstop and forgot about the time. When my phone rang, a call was forwarded. I grabbed my phone and checked who it was. 'Oh hey mom, when are you coming home?' I said. 'Around 12 PM, I will call you back so you can pick me up,' said Mom. 'Sure mom,' I answered. As I hung up the phone and placed it near the coffee table, I played my games and still waited for the call. After about 10 minutes, I checked the phone again. The time was 11:45, and she hadn't called yet. 'Maybe she is still closing the building,' I thought. After a few minutes, a ring on my phone jump-scared me. It was my mother. I quickly answered the call and waited for a response. I only heard white noise and scratches. 'Hello?' I said, as nothing responded. I heard a tight noise that sounded like my mother, but a few moments later, the call stopped. 'Hmm, maybe a signal problem,' I thought. A few moments after I placed my phone on my table, it rang. I checked it and it was my mother. I answered it swiftly and waited for a response. 'Hey Garry, pick me up. I'm at the bus stop near downtown,' said Mom. The phone hung up, and I quickly closed the game and grabbed my key. As I got out of my house, it was dark, and the field was silent. I quickly entered my car and started it. As I was driving, my phone rang. It was my mother. I hesitated to answer because I was near downtown, so I hung up. I was driving near downtown when I saw the bus stop. I leaned over the side mirrors and saw my mother. I hit the brakes and then got out of the car. 'Mom, over here!' I shouted. My mother walked up to the car and got in, while I was checking the tires for any flats. I finished checking and got in the car. I started it a few minutes ago, and my mother still didn't make any conversation. I thought that she had a bad day, so I started the conversation. 'Hey mom, how was work?' I said, but no response. My phone rang, and I thought it was a wrong number. I grabbed my phone and answered it without checking who it was. 'Hello?' I said. 'I'm still waiting,' said the person on my phone. My body shook as I slowly checked my phone, and my mother was calling me. I looked up in the mirror and checked if she was there, but she was gone. I dropped my phone and sped to the nearest police station. As for that night, I was safe, and my mother wasn't harmed. But I now realized the spirit of Bill Wicepher."
