Victor POV:
On second thought, being an orphan ain't as bad as I remember. I have a decent size room all for myself. Though I need to make sure I only practise sound manipulation when they are spying on me. A man's got to have some secrets right?
I decided to push all thoughts of what happened two days ago out of my head. It's time to grind.
The main issue is my quirk's activation.
I spent last night trying to replicate what I did yesterday by making myself as angry as I could. However, no amount of thinking about the Madame Web movie was causing me to blast the soundwaves again.
All right. Let's break down what my quirk is. Actually, I should probably come up with a name for it. Soundwave? Maybe Harmonic Energy?
Something simple but catchy. How about 'Resonance'?
Yeah. I like the sound of that.
Anyways, Resonance, simply put, lets me absorb and then manipulate sound. Once I absorb it, I can use it as sound or convert it into energy which I can store and use for abilities like Telekinesis and Weather Manipulation.
I really wish I had taken Physics for A-Level. But noooo.
I thought that law was a cool career path after watching Suits and took English, Politics and Law and never got any sleep.
From what I can remember from high school, sound works like this.
(A/N: Copied this from google. I don't remember anything from what I learnt in Physics.)
Sound is a type of energy that travels through a medium (such as air, water, or solids) as a wave. It is produced when an object vibrates, causing nearby particles in the medium to move back and forth, creating pressure variations known as sound waves. These waves travel outward from the source of the sound.
The 6 key components of sound are:
Vibrations: Sound is generated by the vibration of objects. For example, when you pluck a guitar string, it vibrates, creating sound waves.
Medium: Sound needs a medium (air, water, or solids) to travel. It cannot travel through a vacuum, like space, because there are no particles to transmit the vibrations.
Frequency: The number of vibrations per second is called frequency, measured in Hertz (Hz). Higher frequencies correspond to higher-pitched sounds, and lower frequencies to lower-pitched sounds.
Amplitude: This refers to the height of the sound wave, which determines its loudness. Higher amplitude means a louder sound, and lower amplitude means a quieter sound.
Wavelength: The distance between consecutive compressions or rarefactions in a sound wave is called the wavelength.
Speed: The speed of sound depends on the medium it's travelling through. It travels faster in solids than in liquids, and faster in liquids than in gases.
How We Perceive Sound: When sound waves reach the ear, they cause the eardrum to vibrate, which the brain interprets as sound. Depending on the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations, we perceive sounds as different pitches and volumes.
Now I remember why I hate science. It is so boring.
Anyways. sound manipulation in a nutshell is strong as fuck. I mean Harlan was able to blow up people by amplifying their heartbeat and his powers are weaker than Vanya's as she gave it to him.
And sound manipulation is just the beginning of what Resonance gives me the ability to do. But I need to learn to control this before I can start using telekinesis like a Jedi. I can't wait!
How did Reginald try to teach Vanya when she was a child?
I think it was how to isolate sounds of cups and have her explode specific ones.
Hmm.
No. Baby steps, remember? I'm only 4 years old and I'm guessing ROB most likely made me the same age as the main cast so that means I have a decade to train before everything turns to hell. Though things may be different since this world has already shown some differences from what I remember reading in the manga.
I'll spend the next month practising my enhanced hearing. Using it for a couple of seconds earlier gave me a massive headache from the influx of noises so I have to learn to isolate and hone in on specific sounds
Being in a place filled with loud, annoying kids will be useful for my training. It doesn't really matter if the staff notice me training since they already suspect me of having a sound based quirk.
I sit down on the floor and cross my legs in a meditative position, blindfolding my eyes with a piece of cloth I found in my room and plugged my nose with some tissue.
For this to work, I need to become one with the Force … I mean sound.
Every little sound hit me at once—the rustle of leaves outside, the distant hum of traffic, even the few raindrops slipping off the leaves of trees in the garden.
Maybe I should have waited before jumping into the deep end.
Ah well.
As Yoda said, ''Do or do not. There is no try''
Might as well get used to it at its current maximum power so I can learn to control the input.
Slowly, I began to hear conversations in the building and could somewhat tell where they were taking place.
''Koichi, you be the villain now. I WANT TO BE ALL MIGHT!''
''Subject 37's Ink Production quirk has shown more promise than initially anticipated. Provide him with hints at how to better use his abilities but do not give him more information than necessary. I would like to test his creativity. If he reaches my expectations, he may be a candidate to join the special class.''
Well, that's intriguing.
Let me see if I can't listen a bit mor…
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
''Honey, it's time for dinner!''
She's already here?
Oh god, it's already 5pm. I've been training for almost 10 hours. I'm starving.
How did I not realise?
Guess the excitement of having superpowers made me forget how important eating was.
Mm mmm.
It's curry. This place might be suspicious but they have some damn good food, I will tell you that. Japan's food is definitely better than England's if this is what they eat on a regular basis. Although, going to a chicken shop always feels more exciting with the high possibility of a roadman stabbing you.
Anyways, I guess this will be my routine for the next 3 months. I should probably occasionally interact with the other children though. I don't want the staff to think I'm too intelligent after all.
3 Months Later
Musical Score.
That's what I've decided to name my first ability.
I'd like to say that I came up with it completely on my own but I stole it from a certain flashy demon slayer.
If I had to describe how it works, the best analogy would be like if a Sharingan was based on sound and not sight. I have rudimentary echolocation now and can hear the movement of my body and other people. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no fighting experience so even if I knew that someone was tensing one of their muscles, it wouldn't really help me out. I feel like something important is missing from this ability.
But it's fine.
I need to remember that time is something I do not lack.
Experience can come later.
Speaking of training, I think that I'm ready to learn to explode things. Shouldn't take too long. I can already hear different frequencies so it's really just a matter of trial and error.
8 Days Later
Why isn't this working? I can isolate sounds easily enough. My musical score is almost capable of echolocation.
So why can't I find the correct frequency to explode the glass?
....
Wait…
That's it!
I got the powers of Vanya Hargreaves not just specifically her TV show version but also her comic version.
Now I know why it isn't working as I thought it should.
But this causes another issue.
I have to become an expert musician as soon as possible.
(A/N: I'm a genius to choose to write a fic about a character whose powers are based on music and physics when I barely passed both subjects. Truly amazing thinking by me.)
