Chapter 6 - Resonance - Part 2

Victor POV:

''How many times must I remind you to hold the bow properly! It is not a sword. Your talent is pointless if you do not learn the basics adequately. Do it again, Victor.''

My tutor stood nearby, arms crossed and expression unyielding, ready to dissect every flaw in my playing. His name was Julian Armitage. Some pompous tuxedo wearing prick that apparently won a few competitions when he was young and thinks he knows everything.

As for why he was at the orphanage…

Golden banners with the words 'Happy 5th Birthday, Victor' hung on the walls.

''Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to Victor , happy birthday to you!''

''Blow out the candle!''

I stood in front of the ice cream cake and blew out the candle.

''What did you wish for?''

For some peace and quiet.

''It won't come true if I tell you Koichi.''

Hopefully, they stop annoying me now. This cake is pretty good. Ice cream cakes are underrated in my opinion. Two good desserts mixed into one. How could it not be good!

Oh. Mitsuri is walking towards me.

''Happy birthday honey. Is there anything you want for your birthday?''

This is perfect. I needed an opportunity to ask for a violin tutor. I'll learn other instruments later but violin is the most important. In the comics, Vanya's powers are influenced by music unlike in the TV show. That's why my powers aren't working like I thought they would.

''Can you teach me violin, please?''

''The violin? Are you sure you don't want video games or toys? Learning an instrument takes a lot of hard work.''

''Yes Aunt Mitsuri. I am sure.''

She gently pats my head and says ''Well if you really want to learn, I'll ask the director to hire a tutor to teach you the basics and buy you a violin.''

Present

This dude is lucky that I am a child. If he met the old me, I would have knocked him out by now.

No wonder people thought that I had anger issues.

My tutor stood nearby, arms crossed and expression unyielding, ready to dissect every flaw in my playing.

"Your posture is unacceptable," he said, voice sharp. "Shoulders back! You look like you've never held a violin before." I've had 5 lessons dude.

I straightened myself up. This is getting really annoying. He's spent the past 30 minutes pinpointing every little issue in how I held the violin.. "Okay," I muttered, shaking off the tension and refocusing myself.

"Now, bow hold," Julian instructed, demonstrating it with precision. I copy his movements.

''No, no, no!''

"You're gripping it like you're trying to crush it. This isn't about strength; it's about finesse!"

With determination to shut him up, I began to draw the bow against the violin strings. The opening notes of "Spring" came out, the beautiful sound filling the room. I've never been a classical music guy, preferring rap or pop but something about playing an instrument with my own two hands just feels awesome. Turning my head, I look at Julian with a smug grin on my face.

"Again! You are meant to be playing Vivaldi. That sounds like a cat caught in a storm!" he snapped. I fought the urge to react defensively. His words were pissing me off, but I reminded myself that I need to keep my emotions in check. No need to give him the satisfaction of seeing me angry.

Repeating the scale, I felt his scrutiny like a spotlight. "Focus on your bowing! Your arm is too rigid," Julian continued relentlessly repeating. "You need to connect with the music, not just play the notes. Just copying what you hear is not enough. Music comes from the soul. I haven't heard it from you yet."

Frustration bubbled within me, but I steeled myself.

After what felt like an eternity of relentless critique, he paused. "Good," Julian finally said with a slight smile on his face, though his tone was still as infuriating as ever. "You're improving, but it's not enough. Keep practising, and perhaps you'll surprise yourself. This is our last session. I expect to hear your name on the news in a few years if you do not slack.'' He picks up his equipment and leaves the room.

Huh. So he can be nice. Someone really needs to teach him about positive and negative reinforcement.

I head back to my room to finally shatter those cups.

Breathe in, breathe out.

I make sure to not let any sound leak out of the room just in case I put too much power in.

The glasses have been placed on the table.

I slowly tune into the frequency necessary and….

CRACK! BOOOM!

The glass exploded but the amount of power I put in turned the shards to dust which stopped me from getting cut.

But hey, it worked and that is all that I care about.

This is my first offensive ability. I want to stick with a music theme for my attacks so maybe something like Crescendo? You know what, that's good enough. No need to overthink it.

Let's see what else I can practise.

3rd Person POV:

''Doctor Seiji, prepare Victor and the adoption paperwork. He is coming today.''

''Yes sir.''

Victor POV:

KNOCK! KNOCK!

Aunt Mitsuri walks in.

''Victor! We have such great news for you. You are being adopted. Isn't this exciting!''

Guess it's happening. Time to see who this mysterious employer is. I'm 80% sure it's Reginald Hargreaves but if it is Kyudai Garaki, I'm pretty confident in being able to escape.

She guides me to the orphanage director's office and opens the door for me.

''Ah young Victor, nice to meet you. I am Director Haruki. I have heard good things about you. You have been chosen for adoption by this gentleman standing next to me. His name is -''

''Doctor Reginald Hargreaves. I've read about him.''

Reginald looks at me with a slightly surprised expression and he motions for the director to leave the room. ''They truly did not exaggerate your intelligence. Most brats, even some adults, don't read the types of books of which I am included in.''

''I'm not a brat.''

''That is precisely why I am taking you in as my ward. Pogo, send Victor's belongings ahead to the house.''

The suit wearing ape nods his head and leaves to go to my room.

''You seem confident that I will agree.''

Reginald scoffs and says ''If you are as intelligent as I think you are, you must have figured out what the purpose of this orphanage is and why I am adopting you.''

''You want us to become strong but why? You called me a brat so I don't think it's because of your immense love of children.''

''You'll find out soon enough and trust me. The power you hold now will seem insignificant in a few months of me training you.''

I guess we shall see. Well, to new adventures I go.

Sayonara, Oblivion Orphanage!

(A/N: Oblivion Orphanage arc ends. The White Violin arc begins. I have a question for you guys. What should the MC look like? Victor is Eastern European so if you have any ideas for what he should look like, post some images.)
