Chapter 7 - Biology of Quirks

Victor POV:

2 days later

This place is awesome.

Reginald clearly couldn't be bothered to come up with a unique design and probably just googled 'Big Mansion examples' because the outside looks like a generic large mansion made out of pitch black bricks.

However, I'm guessing he put most of his focus into creating the artificial PRIVATE ISLAND that it is located on. The house has got everything. State of the art laboratories, training facilities, gaming rooms for some reason and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's like the legal version of Epstein's island. I'm currently in the arcade section playing Mario Kart 42 and it's basically fully realistic VR at this point.

Man, I could get used to this.

KNOCK! KNOCK!

Well, I guess not. I exit the VR Simulator.

Pogo is standing in front of me with an amused look on his face and says ''Young Master, please follow me to Training Facility 1. It is time to commence your training despite how much you seem to be enjoying your recreational activities.''

I try to look as sad as I can but it just made him more amused.

''Now would be good, Master Victor.''

Guess I have to bite the bullet and get back to training.

The door slides open and Pogo leads me into a room that resembled a school classroom with a comfy seat and a small table piled high with books..

''I thought we were going to train.''

''In a manner of speaking, we are. You must train your mind before your body. On the table are some of the prerequisite books you must read before your training begins with Sir Hargreaves.

Have fun for the next few hours. Snacks will be periodically brought to you if you request it.''

Pogo then smirks at me, leaves the room and locks the door.

I'm beginning to understand why Geto hates monkeys.

I guess there's no use in complaining about it and these books will be useful in improving my knowledge of quirks. Watching the show doesn't exactly make me an expert in biology. All the time I spent in my last life learning law is now pointless since I'm in a different country and different century so it's better if I focus my efforts on learning science now. If I remember right, children learn faster than adults due to having faster synapses or something.

Time to get cracking.

4 Hours Later …

Biology ain't too bad.

I've gotten through most of the books but the rest I'll finish tomorrow. The ones I have read so far revolve around the mystery of what quirks are. The most informative book was called the Biology of Quirks by, you guessed it, Doctor Reginald Hargreaves.

Actually, all the books are his. I'd assume he was being an arrogant cunt but I read the books.

The man is a genius.

His books are the United Nations primary source for knowledge on quirks and he has consulted on many quirk laws such as creating laws on how much someone's quirk affecting their personality should be considered in criminal cases.

Essentially, there are three types of quirks: Emitter, Transformation and Mutant. Their quirk factors are located in the place where their quirk is coded to activate from. For example, Aizawa's 'Erasure' quirk factor is located in his eyes.

Emitters are categorised as abilities that allow an individual to create, control or alter energy in different forms. They are limited by the amount of physical or mental effort it takes to activate an ability or the range of the ability. Endeavour's quirk 'Hellflame' requires physical effort since he can overheat and burn himself if he overuses his quirk. Shinso's quirk 'Brainwashing' requires mental effort as he has to form telepathic links in order to activate his ability.

Transformation quirks are abilities that cause the user to take on a temporary alteration of some kind. Transformation-type Quirks allow the user to temporarily alter their body in various different ways. The most common transformation quirks revolve around detaching parts of your body or altering the properties of your body. That weird meatball quirk dude from Shiketsu High is an example of the former and Kirishima is an example of the latter.

Mutant quirks are ones that create bodily structures that grant the user more complex abilities that Emitter and Transformation Quirks cannot safely provide, usually giving you extra appendages or giving you the physical traits of an animal. Mirko is an example of getting the powers of an animal and Ojiro is an example of gaining an extra appendage, a tail in his case.

There are also what is known as sub-type quirks. The only one that is officially recognised as one is Accumulation type quirks which have only occurred so far in Emitter type quirks and are relatively common. These are powers that, in order to function properly, require the user to accumulate energy such as Eri's 'Rewind' quirk.

He made the definition much more specific because in actuality, everything requires energy. Bakugo, for example, needs to excrete enough sweat to activate his quirk but it would not qualify as an accumulation quirk. This is what is known as genetic modifications where your quirk alters your body to fit your abilities.

Technically speaking, every quirk is a mutant quirk since all quirks mutate your body which is why Mutant Quirks now only refer to heteromorphs where it is their actual ability but some people inherit their heteromorph parent's appearance without actually having the quirk. Biologically speaking, someone like Tokoyami does have the Mutant Quirk gene as it is inheritable but it is not his quirk. Mina has horns which have nothing to do with her acid quirk but her pink skin doesn't count as a Mutant as it is due to the acid in her body from her emitter quirk. Jiro is a mutant with earphone jacks as her ability but she can emit sound waves. Hawks is a mutant but he can detach his feathers and control them like someone with a transformation quirk.

Essentially, emitter, transformation and mutant quirks are the three main types but in some cases they are technically sub type quirks. That's the basics of how quirks are classified.

There are quirks such as New Order which allow individuals to manipulate reality and these quirks are still a complete mystery to science which is why they are classed by the activation conditions and not the abilities.

My quirk 'Resonance' would be classed as an Emitter-Accumulation quirk. I'll read the book on quirk training methods tomorrow to find out the most optimal training exercises.

It's 6pm and time for a good night's sleep. I am a growing boy after all.

Or….

I could go explore the gaming room a bit more.

(A/N: Story isn't dropped, I've been so busy with school. I have mock exams coming up at the end of the month which are the grades that I have to put on my university application so you might not get many chapters this month.)
