"What happened to your neck? It looks so red and sore."
Natalie asked after noticing the redness around Carole's skin. Carole felt shy and rubbed it using her fingers as she put her hair down to cover it. She told Aston to be gentle earlier since it's so sudden and they are in the office, but he still did what he wanted like a wild animal.
"Please don't mind it. Do you already have something in your mind?" Carole changed the topic.
They were in the company restaurant for a quick snack before talking and updating each other. A nice drink with sweets would be great for a long catch up reunion.
"Oh, I'm really on a tight diet right now and I didn't know what to choose. Can you please help me?" Natalie gave her cute puppy eyes.
Judging from Natalie's appearance, she indeed looks thin and on a diet today. Looking stunning as ever, Carole suddenly felt insecure.
The truth is, Natalie really didn't want to spend more time with Carole. For her, it's a big waste, but since her best friend saw her going down from Aston's office, she needed a strategy to put Carole's thoughts away about her visiting someone's husband.
After ordering the food, they sat on a table at the corner of the restaurant. Natalie was the one who insisted on a conversation.
"So, how's your fifth wedding anniversary celebration?" She asked, faking the excitement in her eyes.
Hearing this, Carole felt disheartened. How in the hell will she explain what happened last night if her best friend is involved? She knew that Natalie would get upset if she knew that someone is using her to break their marriage.
Carole trusts Natalie and she knows that her best friend of years will never do it. She can still also remember what Natalie told her last month about getting a rich good boyfriend who loves to surprise her everyday.
Carole didn't want Natalie to think that she was ruining something.
"I'm sorry, I'm just excited to know how my best friend had the best celebration of her life," Natalie broke the silence.
"I know," Carole said. "It's just that, something came and we didn't get the chance to fully celebrate last night," she held her best friend's hand. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, sad.
"It's fine," Natalie held her hand back. "I should be the one apologizing. I didn't wait and got so excited so I asked abruptly."
She flashed a bright and sweet smile. "How about I tell you about my one week vacation? Do you want to listen?" she asked.
Carole's expression became light and a smile finally resurfaced on her cheeks as she nodded her head.
Of course, Natalie is lying. She didn't go on vacation. She stayed in a private penthouse Aston prepared for her. The place where both of them can do whatever they want away from Carole. It was a secret penthouse named after Natalie so that even when Carole found out about it, she would just tell her that she bought it for herself.
She's just using the vacation as an excuse. Aston also told Carole last week that he is going to a meeting. That's when the two of them secretly met, doing their affair.
Honestly, Natalie is beautiful and elegant. She is clever and smart. However, she has a dark side inside her heart. She always wanted the things that belonged to Carole. Even back then, she always wanted the things Carole had, which she could never have.
Envy runs through her blood.
Just by thinking how dumb and stupid is her best friend is, she can easily get whatever she wants from her.
Their conversation didn't take that long. After Carole finished the piece of cake she ordered, Natalie told her that she needed to go. She didn't finish her cake because she didn't like it. She just ordered it because Carole ordered it for her.
They headed out. Carole accompanies Natalie while waiting for her driver. Thoughts suddenly mixed inside her mind, making her feel bothered. A piece of her wanted to ask what happened and if Natalie knew about that picture.
Carole wanted to tell Natalie about it so badly, like she wanted to know the truth straight from her husband's mouth. However, she needs to contain herself or else she will ruin someone's reputation.
"Is there something in your mind?" Natalie noticed the woman's expression. "Do you want to tell me something?"
Of course, she has been waiting for this. She couldn't wait to act like an innocent brat in front of her best friend. She knew that Carole wanted to ask her about the photo, and there is only one answer she will say.
The photo came from someone else who wanted to watch Aston's downfall because of his continuous rise in the business world. For sure, Carole would believe that because she is a nuisance.
"N-Nothing,"
Carole held her tongue back. "Have a safe trip, thank you for accompanying me." She said,
Natalie smiled at her. "Of course, anything for you. You're like my twin sister, right? I can feel whatever you are feeling, bad or good."
She gave Carole a tight hug before finally seeing her ride in the distance.
"My ride's here, I need to go. See ya!"
Carole waved her hand and watched the car disappear from her sight. A heavy sigh left her mouth as she looked up once again towards that tall building behind her. She is alone again. The tall company made her realize that it was too big to handle alone. Problems coming from other companies will swarm over Aston and her as his wife needs to give him support.
Just by thinking of how bad she was, her guilt ate her more. They said that a happy wife is a happy life so she will do everything in her power as Aston's wife to be productive.
"I shouldn't be giving him headaches. What am I even doing?" She mumbled to herself.
Meanwhile, Natalie watched her best friend from the car thinking and regretting her decisions in life. A sweet smile formed across her face while laughing at Carole.
"My poor little dumb best friend," she whispered, smirking.
