Zephyrine used the opportunity to talk with Richard while Kendrick was away. She still hasn't figured out what could be wrong between them but they don't seem to be on the same side currently.
As the night began to fall, Kendrick returned to the mansion, his footsteps echoing through the empty house. He had been looking forward to speaking with Zephyrine, but as he approached her room, Nancy intercepted him.
"Sir, Zephyrine has already retired for the night," Nancy said softly.
Kendrick's face fell, his eyes clouding with disappointment. He had been eager to unburden himself, to share the secrets that had been weighing on his mind. But now, it seemed, he would have to wait. It was not a big deal since it was only the interval of a night.
He nodded curtly, turning away from Zephyrine's door. "I'll eat alone, then," he said, his voice low and rough. He was tired but he was hungry and he needed to take some dose before he retired for the night.
