Chapter 4 - Something isn't Right

Elena's heart thumped in her chest, he had already figured it out before she even started.

"So tell me, Selena Vittorio, what's your mission here, failure to do so while I am asking nicely, I would make sure my face is the last you would ever see." He said, maintaining a straight face like he wasn't surprised.

Of course, he wasn't, he had never doubted his mindset and to think it was wrong when it told him that she had an ulterior motive was just him wanting to play her in her own game.

His voice was threatening and Selena didn't need a soothsayer to tell her that he meant every word that came out of his mouth.

"Is he going to end me the same way he ended them?" She thought as the memories of that night flooded her mind again and looking at Vance, he had the same expression from that day.

Talk to me Sel ," He said, walking up to her menacingly, and she couldn't help but take a few steps back, but that didn't stop him either. His eyes were glued on her, and she searched for words in her mind to say, but none came. She was speechless.

What else did you have in your room? This is the last time I will be asking nicely." He said, covering up any space between them as soon as she created them.

Just as she was about to take another step backwards, her hands moved before her legs and a shattering sound followed suit.

She looked at where the sound had gone from right beside her and saw something she knew very well.

A vase.

From the memory she had left she could vividly recall where she had seen that Vase. It was the Vase her father had specifically designed for Vance for his birthday party, and she had put a letter inside it that day but forgot to take it out.

She watched as Vance bent downwards and held a piece of it in his hands. Something was wrong, there was the type of emotion he was showing as the glass was in his hands that she didn't understand.

"Why is he playing victim?" She shouted in her head.

Vance raised his head up, his brown eyes were gone. They were replaced with an icy dark glare which she was sure meant trouble.

Selena's eyes bore into his when he stood up, and she finally got distracted when she started hearing an unfamiliar sound. The sound of something dripping.

She looked downwards following the sound and found out that he was bleeding due to how tight he held the glass.

"You are bleeding." She muttered, but his eyes were still glued on her, cutting her breath short.

Vance plunged the glass with force very close to her face into the wall to the extent that part of it cut her cheek and blood started dripping from it.

You should have answered me when I asked nicely." He growled. His voice was like it belonged to a Lucifer at that time.

I am sorry." She muttered, but it was already too late.

Vance pinned her against the wall by her neck and raised her up, slowly draining her breath. She tried using her hands to fight him off but nothing was working, it was like he was in his own world and wouldn't be coming back anytime soon.

Memories of how he had held her father that night while he drove the knife into his neck twenty times, if she counted right that day, filled her head.

He did the same to her mother and her brother, who was suffering from a chronic disease. Vance had done the same to him on his hospital bed. The horror, everything that shaped her life till that moment played in her mind.

I am sorry Mom," she muttered as tears rolled down her eyes and she felt his grip on her loosen, but his gaze on her was still the same.

You should have answered me when I asked nicely. He said with a loud baritone voice that even caused the mansion to shiver. The images of that night played in his head till some of them seemed real.

He released his hand on her neck and placed them on the sides of his head, pressing them together as he staggered backwards.

This was just his first night with her, and she was already bringing back memories that he struggled every day to forget. His grip on his hand became tighter as he made muffling sounds. Selena couldn't interpret, although she was still struggling to keep her breath from how he had choked her.

The fact that she thought she almost died still puzzled her as she finally maintained her breath.

She looked at Vance confused at his actions, unsure of what to do. She wanted him to be that way, depressed and hurt the same way she was, but something within her told her that what she was doing wasn't right and that she was hurting the wrong person.

As she made a move towards him her legs stepped on something that made her teary immediately.

The Letter.

The letter she had written to him, confessing her feelings and acknowledging the fact that she was wrong for falling in love with him.

With one look at Vance, she didn't need a soothsayer to tell her that he hadn't read the letter and as she bent to pick it up, his shadow in front of her, distracted her.

"Read it out." He commanded, and she picked up the paper with confidence.

It was already high time for her to put an end to everything, especially her old feelings, by confessing to him indirectly and then focusing on her hatred for him together with her revenge.

Happy birthday to the best uncle everrrr." The numerous hearts she drew after that sentence reminded her of how happy she was before everything disappeared.

"I have always loved you." She continued and continuously stole glances at Vance. She couldn't see his reaction because his head was bent low, still looking at where she picked the letter from.

With the increase in the sound she was hearing, she knew that he was much angrier and was hurting himself, which was supposed to make her happy, but for some sort of reason, she wasn't.

She was sad, he killed her family, all of them one by one, and now just the fact that he was hurting himself was making her sad???"

Selena couldn't imagine herself reading out the words she wrote from her pure heart to, the Lucifer in front of her so she tore the letter into pieces and his eyes shone wild.
