Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 Doubt is curiosity

He suddenly remembered that the cloakroom was full of his clothes, and there was nothing of hers.

Other than the cloakroom, it seemed like none of her belongings were in any corner of the room.

Jiang Chenyu's eyes fell on the suitcases in the corner.

Could they all be in there?

"Gu Nuannuan, where do you keep your clothes?"

Gu Nuannuan pointed at the suitcases. "In there. I didn't use your cloakroom or cabinet."

"Why don't you use them?"

She casually lied, "I don't want to use them."

After Gu Nuannuan finished speaking, she grabbed a hairband and tied her long hair up casually with both hands behind her back.

This time, she looked much neater. She asked, "Have you finished washing up? If you have, it's my turn."

Jiang Chenyu made way for her, and Gu Nuannuan entered the bathroom and began to wash up.

Jiang Chenyu stood by the door, watching the girl wash up through the mirror over the sink.

He was puzzled.

What kind of girl is she?

She seemed to have two sides—one arrogant, the other sensible.

If anyone bullied her, she would confront them directly, without a trace of fear.

Yet, she didn't sleep in his bed, choosing to sleep on the sofa instead. This sense of distance made him develop a slight fondness for her.

She would rather sleep hungry than eat the sandwich he offered.

But ever since she married into the Jiang family, she hadn't touched any of his private belongings.

Jiang Chenyu folded his arms and looked at the girl with foamy facial cleanser on her face. He was puzzled but didn't press further at this time.

Suspicion is the precursor to curiosity. Once he became curious, he would unconsciously observe her and gradually get to know her better.

Once he decided to truly understand someone, it became dangerous...

Every meal in the Jiang family felt as uncomfortable as torture.

That morning, as the two of them walked downstairs together, Gu Nuannuan said to Jiang Chenyu again, "Let's move out."

Jiang Chenyu walked ahead, showing her only his back. "I'll think about it."

Gu Nuannuan hurried down a few steps to catch up with Jiang Chenyu.

She grabbed his sleeve with both hands and said in a flattering tone, "Don't think about it. Living outside will only benefit us and do no harm. You don't want to have to look at other people's faces at home all the time, right? You don't want to be bound by rules, right?"

Jiang Chenyu was the only one who could take her out of the Jiang family now.

Even if she had the means to rent a house on her own, she couldn't do that right now. No newlywed bride would go out to rent a house just four days after marriage—especially after marrying into the Jiang family. The Jiang family's rules wouldn't allow it.

"No one at home dares to give me the cold shoulder, and the rules here can't restrain me."

To put it simply, he just didn't want to move out. He

deliberately made Gu Nuannuan stay here so she would be bullied by Wei Aihua.

Gu Nuannuan was smart and instantly understood what he meant.

Her eyebrows furrowed slightly. "Jiang Chenyu, are you even a man? If I get bullied, it's your reputation that will suffer."

"I don't mind losing face."

Jiang Lao arrived late to the restaurant the night before, which caused both the eldest and second daughters-in-law to get angry.

This morning, he dared not be late again. The atmosphere of conflict had been thick yesterday, and if a war broke out again today, there would be no peace in the house.

So, Mr. Jiang hurried out early today.

As a result, he happened to overhear the newlyweds talking.

He walked over. "What are you two talking about?"

Both Gu Nuannuan and Jiang Chenyu turned to look at Mr. Jiang.

Mr. Jiang's eyes fell on Gu Nuannuan's hand, which was still gripping Jiang Chenyu's wrist.

Jiang Chenyu also looked down at the two small hands clutching his wrist, then slowly looked up along her arms until he met Gu Nuannuan's eyes.

Startled, Gu Nuannuan quickly pulled her hands back. She put them behind her back and said obediently, "I didn't mean to."
