The thing about this world was that nothing was absolute, especially when one is below Godhood. Even he, a deity, was murdered by older deities, so not even the heavens were safe.
Anyone can die, including the God of Death…
Nothing is absolute…
Even a supreme magus was made of flesh and had a beating heart. A dagger to the heart would end his world-decimating spell that would have reduced cities to ashes.
That's why the prospect of Magic Knights delighted everyone. The development of magic along with the body, the refinement of the body and soul.
Damon's weak body was one of his shortcomings after he achieved Godhood. As new Gods, they were powerful and had planet-level devastating spells, but the enemy had refined God bodies.
They could resist their spells, and they were eventually overwhelmed. Damon planned to fix that mistake in this life, that's why he planned to join the Magic Knight Academy.
While Damon and Luna conversed secretly, they arrived at the gates and, to everyone's surprise, a troop of a hundred soldiers. Seated on a horse in front was a man in his mid-fifties but with stunning facial features.
His jawline was chiseled, and his skin looked delicate. His eyelashes were slightly longer than those of the average man.
"Hector…" Luna gasped upon seeing the man.
Damon looked at the man with a disdainful gleam in his eyes. Hector must have created a new human identity but maintained extravagant features that made him stand out, his haughty nature had not changed.
"I see you have some of my people tied back there. What are we really doing here, Michael Hail?" Hector asked coldly, his eyes glittering with murderous intention.
Michael was taken aback, not only was he not expecting the forbidden palace to learn of their plan, but he also didn't expect the master of the forbidden palace to personally come down.
Was he so desperate that he came down here personally?
How the hell did he even know about their plans?
Michael flashed a threatening glare at the guards, but they didn't dare meet his gaze.
{He must be paying these men handsomely for them to even go against Michael Hail} The voice was stunned.
'Haven't you heard? Foxes are generous.' Damon responded
Damon wasn't surprised by this move, in fact, he considered it the best move for the guards. Their jobs were as good as gone when Michael found them taking bribes.
Why stop there?
Why not sell out the Hails for extra coins while they are leaving?
"We have reason to believe the forbidden palace is hiding fox spirits, and this girl is one of our suspects. We plan to take her in for interrogations." Michael responded confidently.
"You cannot just take my people away, Young Master Hail." Hector snapped, his tone revealing his impatience.
"We can with the orders of the Duke of Valtheris." Michael remained resolute. Even in the presence of a hundred armed soldiers, he showed no fear.
Hector grimaced and slowly reached for his sword strapped to his waist. However, he froze midway and looked to the left, from which the sound of rumbling earth could be heard.
Soon, torches could be seen, revealing hundreds of well-armed troops marching forward. These soldiers dragged along flags bearing the Hail family wolf emblem.
Lord Hail rode out with over a hundred soldiers following closely behind. A smug smile ran across his face while glaring at the old master of the forbidden palace as if gazing at an old acquaintance.
"Of all five centuries I have spent as Duke, never has someone threatened my family within my city walls until tonight." Lord Hail said with frosty eyes, but Hector was not intimidated.
"The Kingdom of Valtheris is a part of the Griffith Empire, and as such it must follow empire laws. You cannot arrest one of my courtesans without an arrest warrant. You are not leaving this place with her." Hector sneered, and Lord Hail's gaze tightened.
A mere brothel owner would not dare speak to a mighty Duke in such a manner if he didn't have the backing of horny noblemen. They knew he and those within the palace were fox spirits, but they didn't care because they could empty their balls.
Lust was truly one of the greatest seven deadly sins.
"And what if I insist on leaving this place? What will you do about it?" Lord Hail asked.
"I have sent a report to the royal court on this matter. In two days, I will be getting a royal decree ordering the immediate release of my subordinate." Hector sneered.
"Until then, she will remain in our custody." Duke Hail responded, cold and unmoved.
Hector's frown deepened as he threw a glance in Luna's direction. The success of his plan revolved around this one weak fox spirit, and if she could keep her lips shut for two days.
His gaze constantly shifted between Luna and Lord Hail. After a few minutes of hesitation, Hector gave up. He let out a defeated sigh and left with his army, returning to the forbidden palace.
Damon, who had been a silent observer, wasn't surprised. Hector had always been pompous and unreasonably overconfident, causing him to constantly overlook important details in his plans.
It never occurred to him that the Hail family may be in on his schemes until the last moment. His stupid mistake was about to cost the lives of hundreds of fox spirits who believed in him, further driving their race closer to extinction.
"I will get rid of Hector and reinstate Valysara, but in exchange, you must be willing to die for the sake of your clan. Can you do that?" Damon asked Luna in a hushed tone, his eyes burning brightly in the dark night.
