After Duke Hail's long speech, he explained the uniqueness of the werewolf bloodline is the ability to awaken ancestral spirits, gaining their memories and power.
When Damon heard this, he was deeply shaken. He finally understood why werewolves had survived the test of time and risen to the peak of society. While vampires had immortality, werewolves passed down their knowledge to the next generation.
They both felt oddly similar even though they were clearly different.
Duke Hail explained that there were five werewolf Ancestral spirits, each bearing a unique gift. They were the Tyrant Wolf, Haze Wolf, Ghost Wolf, Twilight Wolf, and Blood Wolf.
Duke Hail had the power of the Tyrant Wolf, while his wife Alicia Hail had the power of the Twilight Wolf. Damon was stunned to find out Lara had the power of the Haze Wolf, while Michael had the power of the Ghost Wolf.
This left him with the Blood Wolf Ancestral spirits and for the first time in centuries, the Hail family had become complete again. The welcoming ceremony and explanations seemed rushed. Damon already knew the Hails had pressing matters to deal with, so he didn't ask questions.
After his involvement in last night's kidnapping, Duke Hail believed he was a possible target. They were asked to remain in the castle while some guards were sent to bring Cedric and Blink over.
Left alone in his room, Damon was curious to find out his werewolf capabilities. In his past life, as a new God candidate, Damon considered himself as perfect and never bothered dabbling with other sources of power.
He relied solely on his death magic, and it led to his ultimate defeat.
"Things will be different this time." Damon muttered under his breath while looking at his palms.
Apart from the energetic feeling he had, Damon didn't feel any different. He expected his perception of the world would have changed entirely, but everything remained the same.
"Strange." Damon was inwardly disappointed.
{If they had improved hearing at all times, they would have heard your conversation with the fox girl. You should be thankful they are not as overpowered as you think.} The voice argued, and Damon couldn't help but agree.
Damon inhaled deeply and shut his eyes tight, he tried to pay attention to his surroundings, and as expected his hearing was enhanced.
He could hear the chirping birds in the strong wind, the squeaking mouse down the corridor, the lizard crawling up the wall, and much more.
The sounds were too disorientating, some louder than others. Damon quickly stopped focusing, and the sounds began to fade. He rubbed his temple with a frown as he pondered on what else he could do as the blood wolf.
Unfortunately, for the sake of fairness in the upcoming festival, he was not allowed to learn how to harness his werewolf abilities. He was Damon Ross when he came here for the festival, he must remain, Damon Ross, until the Festival is over.
With nothing else to do, Damon continued with his normal routine. He could tell things were getting complicated with the forbidden palace. There was only a day before they would be forced to return the prisoners.
If they failed to return the fox girl and young magus, things were bound to get chaotic. The forbidden palace would have a valid reason to strike at the Hail family and knowing the kind of person Hector was, Damon was certain he wouldn't miss that opportunity.
{We only joined the Ross family, now we are plotting how to take down a Demon fox.} The voice complained.
Damon had yet to reach the official standard of a novice magus or a magic knight, yet he kept getting involved with dangerous people.
"Relax… Everything is going according to plan." Damon assured.
For the next few days, Damon focused on improving his core and that of Cedric Ross. They had barely over a month left before recruitment exams.
Two days later, the forbidden palace led a small number of troops to demand the release of their subordinates with the royal decree, and as expected things got out of hand.
When the corpses of Luna and the young Magus were revealed, Damon could hear loud voices from the safety of the Hail family castle.
After what seemed like forever, the forbidden palace forces withdrew with the corpses while Duke Hail returned with a smile but Damon knew things were about to get crazy.
There was no way Hector would not retaliate, and Duke Hail knew that. In fact, he wanted that and was eager for such an opportunity to show itself.
On the third day of Damon's stay in the Hail family castle, Duke Hail approached him with a quest he had been expecting for a while. He silently watched Duke Hail walk into the room and stand by the window, hesitating for a while before speaking.
"I need you to sacrifice yourself for the Hail family. Consider it a way of proving your loyalty and winning my undivided support." Duke Hail said in a serious tone.
"You know the owner of the forbidden palace is looking for an opportunity to strike back and the only way they can is by taking a member of the Hail family. Considering the way things are, your daughter Lara is the most likely target, so you want me to take her place." Damon asked with a raised eyebrow, clearly unimpressed.
Duke Hail was taken aback because he wasn't expecting this response. It felt like this youth had seen through him even before he made his intentions clear.
"Once I am captured, you can openly declare this an attack on your guests and rightfully try to rescue me using force. That will give you the opportunity you need to destroy the forbidden palace, harm the noble families supporting them by slaughtering their soldiers, and also get evidence that they are fox spirits." Damon added while Duke Hail was still dazed.
"Yo-you already know…"
"Of course, I know what you want and that's not important. The important question now is what do I get out of all of this?" Damon asked with a raised eyebrow.
