Chapter 28 - Intimidating Fox Spirits

Damon gracefully landed at the center of the dark, empty streets. He could hear Slaughter's galloping sounds fading in the distance, while the frantic footsteps of his pursuers got louder.

"Two… Three?" Damon tried to tell how many people were on the enemy side, but he still wasn't good enough in controlling his werewolf powers.

"We will get more chances to practice in the future. For now, it's best I focus on the task at hand." Damon said to himself as he pulled off his cloak and tossed it aside.

"Vir!" Damon's eyes revealed a blood-red light.

His palm tore open and blood surged out, forming a blood whip. Damon's eyes darted around as he saw two cloaked figures on the rooftops at the right, two at the left, and two more chasing on foot.

"All one-tailed fox demon spirits. But why so much?" Damon frowned.

As soon as the cloaked fox spirits got in range, they frowned when they realized this person wasn't Lara Hail. This was obviously a trick to lure them out, and they fell for it.

"It's okay, I am a suitable replacement." Damon grinned cruelly, revealing a pair of fangs.

"He's a wolf!"

"He's one of them."

"Lord Hector would be satisfied with this replacement."

Damon listened to them speak in hushed tones, and an amused grin spread across his face.

"I am a suitable replacement, only if you have what it takes to capture me." Damon snarled.

Bam!

Without hesitation, he lunged forward, stunning the fox spirits. Damon didn't have the presence of a strong magus, neither did he look like an outstanding fighter.

If this newbie thought he could deal with all of them alone, then he must be crazy!

Fox fire!

A cloaked fox spirit lunged forward, her claw cloaked in fierce purple flames.

Swish!

Pa!

Damon and the fox spirit sped past each other, exchanging blows on the way. While he had a scorched claw wound on his shoulder the fox spirit's cloak had been torn, revealing a sore wound across her shoulder.

Swish!

Before she could react, the blood whip sprang forward and latched onto her waist. With a firm pull, the fox spirit was sent hurling into Damon's palm.

Pa!

Damon caught her by the throat and effortlessly lifted her into the air. A crazed grin spread across his face, while his blood-red eyes glowed even brighter.

The physical improvements he gained from this even without transformation were just stunning.

Swish!

Damon was too thrilled and lost sight of his opponent for a moment. Taking advantage of this, the fox spirit grabbed his hand and unleashed her fox flames on it.

Ah!

Damon frowned and let go of the fox spirit while he jerked back. Before he could regain his balance, a fluffy white and purple tail shot out of her cloak, stabbing Damon's shoulder.

Splash!

Blood squirted out of Damon's wound while he fell on one knee. He watched with squinted eyebrows as the fox spirit's tail twirled around, binding him and pulling him off the ground.

"Another cocky dog with zero skill." The fox spirit hissed disdainfully.

Meanwhile, the five other fox spirits had surrounded them, prepared to strike when necessary. Even now Damon wore an amused grin on his face while looking into the darkness.

He wasn't even paying attention to the fox spirit that captured him.

Hak!

Damon's eyes turned dark green, and the turned off Street torches were engulfed in green flame.

"Aaaaaaah!" The fox spirit screamed in pain as she quickly let go of Damon.

She fell on her butt and without hesitation she cut her tail off. Other fox spirits watched in horror as the severed tail rotted at an alarming rate.

Damon grabbed the fox spirit by the throat and lifted her off the ground. Her body turned pale and dry, cracks slowly spread across her face.

Her hands held Damon's arm tightly as she tried to break free, but she couldn't. Not only was Damon physically stronger, she could feel her strength getting sapped away with each passing moment.

The other fox spirits were too terrified to approach, since they have never seen this kind of magic before. They could only stand and watch as their comrade was reduced to a mere husk.

Her organs had been completely obliterated by Damon's decay power, making her as light as a feather.

He let her corpse fall to the ground as he turned to the others with a bright smile spread across his face.

"Take me to Hector. Tell him the Master of the Palace of the Dead has returned." Damon said confidently.
