The three of them sat there as they were across the table from an empty chair. The three of them had no idea on what to expect especially since Sebastian had walked out of a room a few doors down earlier and only passed them while giving them a glance and quietly telling them "good luck."
They continue to sit there, pondering what this could mean for them until a door is heard opening as they all froze. Mike turns to face where the sound came from, but Alex stays sitting and facing forwards, as does Pat. The one who had entered the room was the Admin, who went to sit down in the chair across from them.
He leaned forward and laid his head down onto his hands, looking at the three of them all until- "I remember you three." They all sit in silence. The Admin patiently awaits some type of response from one of them. The only problem he then faced was that he got a snarky remark from Mike.
"That's cool and all, but can you tell us how you 'remember' us?" The Admin turns his head to face towards Mike, and while Mike was trying to keep a more stoic look on his face, it wasn't all that good since when the Admin peered over towards him, he ended up leaning back slightly since he had no idea what could happen at that moment.
"I was going to get to that," he says before returning to his initial position while letting out a sigh. "I will admit, my knowledge on the three of you is limited. I can at least try to give some insight on what I do know; take what I say with a grain of salt, however. Now, as I have been told, you three have seemingly lost your memories. Is that right?"
"Yes, that is correct. We all sorta just woke up atop a bunch of rubble of a building. Not even in some town, but in the middle of nowhere." Alex explains before Mike admits to his own small adventure he had taken some days earlier. "Yeah, and I tried going back to get through the rubble, but that didn't go so well for me. All I got was being knocked out and then placed in some operating room by an insane woman who probably chucked me back out there just to make it look like I had only just done it."
"I see... and how about you? Do you have anything to make note of?" The question was directed towards Pat, who was spacing out again. Thinking about the whole situation with Gris telling him and Alex to stay quiet about what had happened to Mike towards Cassian because she found it to be "a really great prank." He continues to ponder on if they made a good choice on what they did, and considering that Mike was spot on with what he guessed happened, only made him feel more guilty.
But he snapped out of it as a couple finger snaps rang out in front of him, which brought his attention towards the Admin. "O- Oh, yeah. Sorry, was just..." "Thinking about what had happened to you?" The Admin finished for him as Pat slowly nodded, "Yeah, that. Though, out of me and the others, I have already had a singular moment where I had a memory return to me. Well, not a memory per say, but just some knowledge."
"Really? Can you please tell me what this knowledge was?" Pat was hesitant to answer the question. Because, from what he can tell, the black market seemed to be a much more touchy subject when it came to being here. Especially if Sebastian wasn't meant to be going there himself. But he realized that he might as well admit to it, because the Admin had already admitted to knowing them, so he may as well.
"I... remembered that this woman named Gris had been in charge of running something in the black market, but I am now starting to think it was wrong because I can't pinpoint an exact amount of time. At first I thought one amount, then questioned if it was another. And now I just don't know." "Ah, I see. So at least you have some relation to the black market. That is... not the greatest thing. However, it would not be the first time we've welcomed someone from there. We've hired known mercenaries before, so you three shouldn't run into many issues."
"So... can you tell us how you know us?" This time, the question was asked by Alex as the Admin silently sits there once more. "Yes, of course. You see: I don't." He admits, which flabbergasts the three of them, but before Mike could attempt to reach out and jump at him from across the desk, the Admin continues. "I do not know you all personally. But, from what I can tell, I can give an idea on what you three are."
Mike stops what he was about to do as he sat back down entirely and decides to listen alongside Alex and Pat. "From the looks of it, it is entirely likely that you three are all wandering mercenaries. And, not to be rude, but it's also probable that, if you are wandering mercenaries, you were all not too known if you went down there and no one knew who you three were, unless they were keeping something from you. As for the building rubble? Hmm..."
He thinks, and he thinks, until it dawns on him an idea to explain what it could possibly mean. "Ah, yes. You see, there are multiple abandoned outposts and test site buildings for whatever reason in the many wastelands of the world. And some are rigged with many traps in case of anyone attempting to access them after they're left. You three likely attempted to see what you could find, triggered a trap, which resulted in the building to go down, but suffered enough of a head injury to cause amnesia. But for all three of you to suffer that level at the same time? That would have to be some coincidence..."
The Admin soon got up and began to leave. "Of course, that wouldn't be the strangest coincidence I've seen in my time. I've been a part of many coincidences, so this does not surprise me. But, for now I shall return to my writings, and you three can return to Sebastian. He should be waiting for you all in the front." The door closing was the last thing they heard as the Admin left, leaving the three to think about the likely reason as to what happened to them.
