Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Pendant

Fu Rong immediately turned on the tap and splashed her face with cold water. She quickly wiped her tear-stained face. Luckily, all the mishaps in her life have not yet happened. She still has her dad and brother. They are still alive, and no misfortunes have started happening yet. She calmed down a little.

"Rong'er, are you alright?" Fu Sheng knocked on the bathroom door lightly when Fu Rong didn't come out for a long time. He was worried whether his little daughter, who was weak, had fainted inside. When he was in a dilemma about whether or not to break the bathroom door to get Fu Rong out, he heard his daughter speak, "Dad... I am alright. Just wait. I'll be out in a minute." Only then did he relax.

Fu Guhua, Fu Sheng's adopted sister and Bai Yan's mother, opened the door and came in. Since Fu Sheng's family had only three sons and his mother was fond of girls, his parents decided to adopt Fu Guhua. But she was so mature at a young age and filled with schemes. Everyone in the family didn't realize this even at their death. She plotted everyone's death for the Fu family's fortune and power. Her malice was covered with a kind-looking mask, and everyone thought she was an elegant lady with a kind heart. Unknown to them, she was a demon in angel's clothing.

"Brother... How is Rong'er? I was very scared when she fell down." She looked around the room while talking to Fu Sheng and noticed Fu Rong was missing. "Brother, where is Rong'er? Did she wake up? Did she say anything?" She was nervous, wondering if that damn girl would tell her brother about the fight between her daughter Bai Yan and her. If she complained to him that Bai Yan was there to snatch the damn pendant, she couldn't even imagine how her brother would react.

Fu Rong, who was in the bathroom, was able to hear Fu Guhua. How could she forget this voice? The very person responsible for all her misfortunes. The very person responsible for all her pain, agony, and suffering over the years, and for her lonely life. She was the cause of why her happy and loving family was destroyed, and she became an orphan, chased by all. How could she forget the person who killed her brother and took away all her happiness, forcing her to hide like a street rat to save her life, which was hanging by a thread? The very person who disfigured her and planned to sacrifice her for their dreams.

Anger rose in her heart, and she felt blood rush to her throat. She felt like rushing outside, tearing that woman into pieces, and drinking her blood and flesh. Even if she did that, her anger wouldn't subside. She took a lot of effort to control her anger and composed herself. She told herself that this was not the time to kill her—that would be too easy a punishment. That evil woman... Won't she be bored to death by her acting? She sneered in her heart and looked at the pendant. The very pendant that saved her life when she was young. Fu Rong had a pure yin body and was covered with pure golden aura and qi. She had a special type of body. Naturally, she attracted all evil things, unseen and ghosts. They were drawn to her yin energy and either wanted to swallow her soul or possess her body.

When she was three years old, she fell ill, was in a coma, and wouldn't wake up. Doctors couldn't tell what was wrong with her. Her parents and brother were worried to death and sought guidance from the temple. One of the Daoist masters saw Fu Rong and pitied her. He took out the jade pendant from his bag and put it on her neck. He advised them not to remove it under any circumstances, or else the consequences would be unimaginable. Magically, she woke up soon after, and her parents believed it was the pendant that brought their life back. From then on, she stopped seeing ghosts, and the pendant saved her life.

This very pendant was snatched by her cousin Bai Yan to make their plan work. Unlike Fu Rong, who was born with luck and golden qi, Bai Yan was born with misfortunes, ill-fated poverty, and loner luck. When she was born, Fu Guhua's husband faced losses in his business and lost his health. He hated Bai Yan for being a girl, and after her birth, he faced more losses. He couldn't help but connect her with his fate. He slowly lost patience with Fu Guhua. He got addicted to gambling and started loitering around cheap women. Every day he returned drunk and started to abuse Fu Guhua and her newborn daughter.

One fine day, he met with an accident and died, leaving both these women in the Fu family's care. Fu Sheng's mother, who felt guilty for giving her daughter in marriage to such a bastard, took Fu Guhua to her side. No one was allowed to speak ill of Fu Guhua, or she would be the one to fight for her daughter's rights. This made both Fu Guhua and Bai Yan arrogant. None of her sons dared to hurt Fu Guhua's feelings because they respected their mother and feared she would start fighting with them. Even after her death, all the sons maintained this status quo and restrained themselves from hurting her feelings.

Fu Guhua, who met with a devilry master, wanted to change her daughter's fate. Though she faced misfortunes from Bai Yan's birth, she was still her mother. How could a mother hate her daughter? She was adamant about changing her daughter's fate by any means. The master she met suggested a restricted dark art of exchanging the luck of a person with someone who had better luck than them. Coincidentally, he saw Fu Rong and told them she had extremely good luck and golden qi, which could be used for her daughter. In turn, he needed her body, which had golden qi and aura, to make a human cauldron. They made a deal and together decided her fate.
