Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Adventurers Guild

After Satoshi came out, he walked around the village for a while... When he tired and stopped, he took a quick scan of his surroundings

There were no adults around in the village, they were probably working in the farms. Some children were playing around, the only difference from the medieval times was that the children were throwing water balls at each other, which they had created with magic.

**

Looks like everyone can use magic, it's cool. I guess it wouldn't hurt to wander around a bit more.

After walking around in the village for a while, two things caught my attention, first, there was a white shining statue in the center of the village. It was a statue of a man holding an axe, and underneath it was written *Even though everyone else in this country forgets you, this village will always remember you. We know you are the real hero.*

The second thing was a building that said Adventurers Guild, indeed I'm in a fantasy world. I guess it wouldn't hurt to go in and learn a thing or two...

**

After a while of observing the building, he decided to check inside. Inside, there were a reception desk in front of the entrance, a task board in one corner, and a coat rack next to it.

The woman at the reception desk was quite old, about 120-130 cm tall, wearing a baggy outfit with a black collar. She was asleep in her seat with both hands folded in her lap. Satoshi approached the elderly woman.

"Hello, are you awake?''

The old lady opened one eye without moving.

"What do you want?''

Satoshi ''What is the purpose of this building?''

Old lady "Don't you know what the Adventurers' Guild is?''

Satoshi "No, I don't know.''

Old lady "You must be from a foreign country… Hmm indeed, you look like a northerner, but you are way too short, that you cannot be one of them.''

Satoshi was annoyed, the woman who said that, was basically a dwarf.

''Aah shut up and tell me what this building is for, old fart!''

The old lady chuckled "But your temper and patience are definitely like them! Hehe…''

The old lady pointed to the room in the back and said, "We measure your mana level with the orb in that room, and if you're qualified, I'll register you in the adventurer's guild.''

"What's the point of registering?''

"There are buildings like these almost everywhere in the country, of course they are much larger. You can stay in these buildings for free. You can do tasks and earn money from the task board that behind you''

Satoshi had nowhere to stay, so he thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to give it a try.

''Then I'd like to sign up''

The woman was too old to stand up from the chair. She looked at Satoshi and pointed again to the room she had shown him earlier.

"There's a orb on the table in that room, bring it here.''

Satoshi went to the room, looked around, it was really quite damp, without questioning it, he took the orb and went back.

"So what do we do now?''

The old woman touched the orb with a blue gem from the drawer and it started to glow.

"Put your hands on the orb.''

Satoshi put his hands on the orb. After a while she opened her other eye and looked at the orb in surprise.

"H-how is that possible?!?''

Satoshi got excited by this reaction.

''What's the matter granny, do I have a talent that appears in centuries or something?!''

The woman began to laugh. With the way she laughs, it could be seen that she only had two teeth in her mouth.

''I've never seen someone who doesn't have mana before. You must be the weakest person on earth. Hihi…''

**

What kind of laugh is that? Are you a fucking witch or something? It's not surprising that I don't have mana, after all, she said that she was going to send me here with my weak body...

*Hihihih…*

What's wrong with that old fart, her laugh is getting uglier and uglier. Is that saliva coming out of her mouth? You only have two fucking teeth in your mouth, stop laughing like that! I'm starting to feel nauseous,

''Ugh! Stop laughing, ugly witch, even that creature in the waterfall was beautiful compared to you and she had some huge things to cover her ugliness. Look at you! You are flatter than my ass''

**

After Satoshi insulted her, she grabbed the wand lying next to the table in frustration. When she took the wand looked like she was filled with energy, she jumped from her chair to the ground and began to chase Satoshi.

''Huhh ugly?! When I was young, I was the most beautiful woman in this village!''

Satoshi flinched and started running, while he was running away.

"When you were young, was there even a village here? you damn fossil!!''

Once Satoshi was out of the building, he didn't need to go any further, the old woman wasn't running that fast anyway. As he was deciding where to go, Satoshi realized that there was a glow coming from his waist level. The pills sack was glowing.

Satoshi took out the sack that hung on his waist and opened it. when he looked inside the sack, he saw that the blue colored one was glowing.

He picked it up and examined it, and there was writing on it

*Mana*

After seeing the writing, he thought,

'Why the hell didn't it show up earlier? Now I'll have to deal with the old witch once again.'

After swallowing the blue ball, he hung the sack back on his waist and went back into the building. The old woman had sat back at her desk and was sleeping.

He quietly approached the old woman and grabbed her by the back of her dress and lifted her up. The old woman woke up as she was lifted up. She looked down and immediately realized that she was up in the air and looked in front of her to see who had lifted her up.

Satoshi, with a devious smile on his face said. "You're not so strong without your stick, aren't you freaking witch ? Now let's test which one of us is the weak one... I wonder if you'll be able to laugh again like before!",

*Rosie Blackthorn*

Some time after that Satoshi left, I knew I had to go after him, after all I tested my new poison on him, so I have to give him the antidote.

It's probably better for me that he doesn't die, after all I've never seen a mixed Northerner like me before, maybe we can be friends...

I asked my father,

"Can I go for a short walk?"

"Of course! Busy hours are over, go wander around as much as you like, I'll take care of things here"

''Thanks dad, you are the best''

I need to get the antidote from my room before I go out, so I went upstairs to my room…

**

Rosie's room has walls full of mysterious symbols, a large desk, poison plants, manuscript books and secret shelves to store her special concoctions. The bottom drawer of her large desk is full of antidotes and the top drawer is full of poisons

She opened the bottom drawer, there were a lot of small glass bottles with white colored liquids in them. She took the one marked *Newly tested* and went outside.

'He must have passed out by now.' She thought,

While Rosie wandered around the village for half an hour looking for Satoshi, she was checking on the people taking a nap on the sidelines. She sighed and thought.

'Maybe I should put a quest on the board at the adventurer's guild.'

Although there were no adventurers in the village, the children of the village who dreamed of becoming one would take such quests and complete the quest. This way, they would be able to earn some pocket money for themselves and they would be happy even though they were basically doing chores

She set off towards the guild building. Soon he was in front of the building and there were voices coming from inside. She opened the door and headed inside,

''Heeey! Grandma-''

Before Rosie could finish her sentence, she saw her grandmother hanging on the coat rack next to the duty board. At the reception desk, Satoshi was sitting with his feet propped up on the table, leaning back in his chair as if he owned the place.

Satoshi and the old woman continued their conversation like Rosie hadn't walked in.

''What do you mean first level is the lowest level? it should be the highest one!''

The old woman did not look uncomfortable at all from where she was hanging.

''What did you expect, just because you went out of the building and came back, you suddenly have godly powers? In the first try probably because you were too weak, the orb could not even detect your power hihihhihihi''

Satoshi looked like a side villain with an angry voice,

''Haven't you learned your lesson yet, you fucking witch?!''

The old woman covered her mouth with both hands and got silent.

''Yeah that's what I thought.'' Satoshi said.

Rosie couldn't understand what was going on. Why Satoshi still hadn't fainted even though she gave him poison and why was he messing with her grandmother?

''Hey what's going on here?!''

Satoshi straightened up a little.

''Huh who the hell are you?... Oh yeah, the kid that strangely sincere from the inn''

Rosie didn't even mind being called a weird.

"A kid?!? I'm 25 years old!''

''Yes, and I am the king of the m-world right kiddo Haha…''

The old woman was bored with the conversation and yawned.

''Hey, how about you at least put me down from here and continue your stupid conversation''

Rosie panicked,

"Ohh yes, my sweet grandma, I'll put you down right away.''

As Rosie made her way towards her grandmother hanging on the coat rack, Satoshi said sarcastically

"Sweet?! I hope your eyes are okay, brat.''

Rosie, "Stop calling me a brat and tell me why you're picking on my grandma.''

Satoshi leaned back again and clasped his hands behind his head. By then Rosie had put her grandmother down.

"She attacked me first. It was self-defence.''

She annoyed by Satoshi's self-righteous behavior, Rosie said in a sarcastic and slightly irritated tone,

''Were you defending yourself from a 120 cm old woman?''

Satoshi straightened up again and pointed at the old woman.

''That thing is not an old woman. It's a meter tall hideous goblin and it's pretty scary when it runs at you with an expression on its face as if it wanted to wipe out all its bloodline. Okay!?!''

Rosie was mad that Satoshi was speaking badly about her grandmother, he wasn't even seeing her as a human being. Her eyes filled with tears of anger when she spoke.

''If I had known you were such a disgusting person, I would never have asked my dad to carry you home when I found you unconscious in the well... I should have left you there!!''

Her grandmother was patting her on the back to comfort her, the old woman said in an reassuring manner.

"Oh don't blame yourself, honey, how were you supposed to know he was a piece of shit?''

Satoshi was feeling guilty over Rosie's crying.

''Hey hey hey hey stop crying, come on, I'm sorry kiddo! I was just trying to register here to find a place to stay, but I got a little pissed off because that thing was mocking me!''

While Rosie wiping her tears

"Stop treating me like a child and stop calling my grandmother a thing!!!''

Satoshi got up from his seat, he was approaching Rosie to comfort her so she would stop crying and suddenly realized something.

''Hey hey hey hey hey, I know this technique...isn't that the thing! Whenever you run out of words you cry and win the argument, you damn witches. Even at such an age you've learned this technique, brat huh?.. But I got to admit its… impressive''

Satoshi stopped moving towards Rosie and headed for the door.

''Anyway, looks like I'll have to find somewhere else to stay, Sayonara''

As Satoshi walked towards the door with his back towards her, waving his hand, Rosie suddenly stopped crying.

"Tsch !''

Rosie stood up as if nothing had happened, even her grandmother, who patted her on the back, was surprised.

"Hey! You can work in the tavern if you want, we'll give you a place to stay.''

Satoshi nodded and smiled without looking back then he turned to Rosie,

"I accept!''

As he smiled with his hands in a thumbs up gesture, suddenly foam bubbled from his mouth and he fell face down on the floor. Rosie looked proud of herself,

"So it did work! I knew it!! Haha…''

I wonder what Satoshi was doing in the adventurers building before Rosie showed up...

After Satoshi fainted, Rosie reached her hand forward, her green eyes glowed for a second, and a wand appeared in her hand.

The wand was almost the same height as Rosie, it had a large green jewel at the top center and a red jewel at the bottom right of the large jewel and small white jewel at the bottom left.

Rosie pointed the wand at Satoshi's body lying on the ground and the white gem in the wand began to shine. Then Satoshi started to float in the air.

"I'm going to the tavern, Grandma, is there anything you want?"

Her grandmother, with one eye closed.

"Get me something to drink and give that maniac a good beating when he wakes up."

Rosie smiled and said "Don't worry I have better plans for him. Besides you need to stop drinking this early."

Her grandmother seemed a little annoyed,

"Huh, look at the one who's giving advice!"

Rosie giggled and headed towards the tavern. After she arrived to tavern, she carried Satoshi to her room and laid him on the table and took out the antidote that she carried till now. With a sparkle in her eyes, she made the liquid in the antidote bottle float in the air with her magic, guiding it into Satoshi's mouth. Once she was sure he swallowed the antidote, she left the room.

When Rosie went downstairs, she had a brief argument with her father about her habit of testing her poisons on people. They had discussed stopping this many times before, but Rosie still did as she pleased.

**An Hour Later**

Satoshi slowly began to open his eyes. His vision was blurry. Right in front of him, there was a silhouette of a large man whose face he couldn't quite see because the light at the top couldn't pass through the man's back. Seeing this, Satoshi jumped back in fear and said, "Fuck no! Not again…"

The innkeeper didn't understand this reaction but asked with a friendly smile, "Are you okay, kid?"

When Satoshi's vision cleared, he realized this was not the man he sees every time he dies but just the innkeeper, which made him relieved. He took a deep breath and answered, "Oh, yes, I'm fine. I thought you were someone else."

The innkeeper leaned closer to the table where Satoshi was lying and said, "Someone else, huh... Anyway, I heard that Rosie offered you a job and a place to stay."

When the man came so close to him, he realized something he hadn't noticed in his morning absent-mindedness. This man was enormous, almost making Satoshi wonder if he was even a human. With a slightly hesitant tone, Satoshi replied, "Y-yes?"

"Hmm... Did you and Rosie become friends?"

"Ehm- I don't know, I just know her name, that's all."

The man smiled warmly and extended his hand, Satoshi extended his hand in return and shook it. Then the man spoke with a light chuckle, "Haha... Good, make sure you don't get any closer than that."

Relieved by the man's chuckle, Satoshi asked. "What do you mean?"

The man's laughter took on a tense edge as he began gripping Satoshi's hand more tightly and said, "I said, make sure you don't get closer any than that."

At that moment, Satoshi realized that this person was a maniac who was overly protective of his daughter. He wasn't the smartest, but the pain in his hand helped him think quickly.

"Y-yes, of course, just names, sir!"

The man relaxed his grip on Satoshi's hand slightly and said, "Good, I'm Sven Ir—ehm—Blackthorn. Nice to meet you, kid." He released his hand and took a couple of steps back.

As Sven let go, Satoshi opened and closed his hand with a tear in his eye, thinking, 'Oh, I thought he was going to break my hand.' He responded, "A…and I'm Satoshi, nice to meet you."

Sven nodded and said, "You can rest for today and start work tomorrow," then he left the room.

Satoshi leaned back, feeling quite sick. After rubbing his head for a while, he closed his eyes, trying to rest, but the table he was on was very uncomfortable. As he was about to get up and head outside, Rosie stepped in.

Rosie exclaimed in surprise, "You've recovered faster than I thought!"

"Recovered from what? I wasn't even sick..."

Satoshi thought, 'When you think about it… I really wasn't sick, was I? Why did I suddenly pass out? Was I too tired…? No, I didn't feel tired at all. Something isn't right… Ah, whatever, even thinking make me nauseous. I need to sleep.'

Rosie was glad Satoshi didn't know anything and said, "Oh yes, you weren't. I just thought you were sick when I saw you collapse."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah."

"Hmm, your dad said I could rest today, is there a room where I can sleep?"

"Of course! Follow me."

After showing Satoshi to his room, Rosie asked, "Would you like something to eat?"

Satoshi just wanted to sleep and get rid of his headache, so he turned Rosie down and went to bed. Rosie looked quite displeased that he declined her offer.

The next day, during breakfast with Sven and Rosie, Satoshi noticed Rosie watching him intently. Even though it made him feel strange, he decided to ignore it. While Sven showed him the work he'd be doing throughout the day, Rosie continued to watch him closely.

Sven, noticing this, didn't seem too pleased but he could guess the reason. After all, there were no other people with northern blood in these lands besides him and his daughter…

The days flew by, Satoshi had adapted to life here. Every morning, they'd have breakfast together and start working at the inn. When their work was done, Satoshi and Rosie would go out to gather some herbs for her hobby and sometimes she would teach Satoshi how to use magic...

Even though Sven had initially told Satoshi not to get close to his daughter, he didn't seem bothered by it anymore.
