Mrs. Jade was not happy with Robert's behavior, but when she heard Eclipse being put down by him, she couldn't hide her anger.
But then, she quickly smoothed her expression back into her usual sweet smile.
"Eclipse, I know Robert has wronged you, but today is Grandfather's birthday. He has watched you grow up, and as a junior, you shouldn't be so unwelcome."
Eclipse's cold gaze swept over Mrs. Jade's kind face, and she smirked. "Mrs. Jade, you should know that it's not that I don't want to stay and celebrate with Grandfather Rocleyn, but Jessica won't give me the chance. Your son is also wholeheartedly protecting her. Do you think I haven't been harmed by them yet?"
Mrs. Jade remembered what had just happened and clenched her fists, trying to hide her anger.
She reached out to grab Eclipse's arm, but Eclipse dodged her easily.
"Eclipse..."
Eclipse stood at the entrance of the hall, just a step away from leaving the party. She looked at Mrs. Jade, her expression a bit blurry in the light and shadows, but her voice was icy.
"Mrs. Jade, even though you are older, some things still need to be clarified. You know what kind of person I am, and what kind of person Jessica is. Others might not know, but you, who have watched us grow up, should know better. Since you've allowed your son to choose Jessica, why waste your time on me?"
Her gaze sharpened as she continued, "Jessica has taken everything from me, and now I am alone. What does Mrs. Jade want from me?"
Mrs. Jade felt a chill at Eclipse's sharp words, her heart sinking and a hint of panic creeping in.
She stared into Eclipse's eyes, trying to read something in them, but all she saw was a calm coldness.
In those beautiful, clear eyes, there was no trace of the love she once had for Robert.
Not to mention love, there wasn't even a sign of pain or despair from being betrayed by someone she once cared about.
From the canceled wedding banquet to now, Eclipse seemed to have transformed, like a fire burning away everything until she was reborn in both looks and attitude.
Mrs. Jade had always known Eclipse was smart. In fact, she was better than Jessica in many ways due to her upbringing. But she didn't have Jessica's cruelty or her cunning ways.
Even when Eclipse loved Robert deeply, even knowing that Jessica was favored, she would never say it in front of her.
Now, however, she had pierced through this barrier with sharp suspicion, suspecting that she had motives.
Mrs. Jade was a woman who had been through a lot and knew that a girl's sudden change could only mean one thing: she had completely given up on the guy she once loved!
Standing before her now was the true First Miss Rocelyn, who lived only for herself!
Mrs. Jade felt anger rising in her, wishing she could slap Robert and strangle Jessica. If it weren't for the plan she hatched at the wedding that ruined Eclipse, things wouldn't have gone this far!
If she wanted to keep that twenty percent stake, today was probably her last chance.
Thinking about this, Mrs. Jade's face darkened, and her concerned voice suddenly rose for all to hear. "Eclipse, what nonsense are you talking about? You are the daughter-in-law of the Jade Family, the mistress of the Jade Family. Jessica is just a guest here. I'm here, and no one dares to kick you out!"
Eclipse looked at Mrs. Jade with surprise, a playful glint in her eyes. Robert might be foolish, but Mrs. Jade was a strong woman.
Jessica, who had been quietly watching, suddenly turned pale and said with red-rimmed eyes, "I didn't try to drive my sister away. She hasn't come home for days, and I was just worried about her..."
As she spoke, she looked at Robert with tear-filled eyes.
Normally, Robert would have jumped to her defense, but today, he just stood there with a complex expression of apology, then turned to look at Eclipse.
Jessica lowered her eyes, her pale face showing a look of being wronged. Her sharp nails dug into her palms, her heart overflowing with anger and confusion.
What was going on?!
Why did Mrs. Jade suddenly side with that brat Eclipse, and why did Robert stop defending her?
Robert remained silent, while the girls who had previously defended Jessica against Eclipse couldn't wait to speak up.
"Mrs. Jade, don't listen to Eclipse's nonsense! Jessica was just trying to bring her in, but Eclipse started hitting people and even stepped on Jessica, making her spill her drink..."
"Exactly! We all saw it; it was Eclipse who was wrong! Jessica is a complete victim!"
For a moment, the hall was filled with loud accusations from angry girls.
