Chapter 34 - The Guards Move Out

The next day came by quickly. Myrym and Forenus have both anticipated what was to come: the moving day.

It was finally the time to act, and the key to it would be the young boy who was currently taking care of the horses that recently arrived and had the carriages to carry the prisoners on.

Forenus first had to deliver large batches of food and have extra made by those in the base because of a minor problem that arose.

While the horses are fast, they require a lot of food to maintain since they would be carrying quite a load. They needed the extra shipment to ensure that they would stay quick and healthy.

However, that was not the true main problem. It was simply the logistics of how they would travel.

If he were to have one big group of units together, it would be the fastest and most efficient way to have them travel. However, that would lead them to be one big target if anyone were to come across them.

While there would be next to no chance that something like this would occur, especially with such immense power to be of concern, it does not mean they should go with this plan.

However, if they were to use smaller units, it would take multiple trips, and in the chance that the soldiers might escape, it would be much easier to do so and allow them to ambush more of the units out on the road.

It was a matter of which would be most safe and which would be more cost-efficient overall. He could have asked Nasiah, and while he would say yes since this was not part of their agreement, they would be indebted to him.

While that would not be so bad, Myrym was the main problem. She would leverage this to her own desire just as she did the agreement. He knew that she was crafty, but right now, she did not have much power aside from Nasiah and her lesser status that he could have overlooked. However, he could not focus on her as of this moment.

Forenus would obviously go with them, and any big attack could be mitigated by his own power. However, he would have to hope this power was not equal to his own or greater, but the chances of that happening were miniscule in his eyes.

In the end, he decided on a unique formation of guards, prisoners, himself, and Forcas to create a protective shield from any threat that may come their way.

Myrym counted on that. She knew that the supplies and the idea of the prisoners suddenly escaping would far outweigh the possible risk of someone or something attacking them.

And so she devised a plan; the guards began to become too trusting of the servants of Myrym, so much so that it was quite easy to intoxicate many of them once more before taking their clothes to pose as them for the moving day.

To ensure that they had no missing gaps, the servants studied the guards' names, preferences, and mannerisms to act as them for this to work as well.

It worked wonders as Forenus did indeed order an inspection as well as a head count where the guards and their superiors had to investigate each soldier.

However, nothing further could have been conducted due to the sheer number of soldiers and the time allotted. This was natural in large complexes and any organization with many moving systems; many oversights can be made once you look at the big picture.

She then had Nasiah and herself explain that they were going to spend some time together in private as they had such little moments with just the two of them that they needed to bond.

Everyone saw this as natural, of course. Nasiah has been working for so long that he needed to be with his mother for off time.

It was also technically the truth that they would be spending time together, that being the time they would spend together would be to help release the prisoners and make their way to safety.

Jossel and Jaguar were informed of this, of course, as were all of the prisoners. They would act as regularly as possible as if nothing had changed at all.

The general would still groan and scream, annoyed. The knight would be silent and graceful, and the prisoners were a varying mix of both as they entered the carriages upon Forenus's soldiers' orders. This worked successfully as both of them played their roles well enough that everyone nearby was none the wiser in the actual plan afoot.

It was quite the sight indeed, several carriages placed together in a sort of 'V' like formation with guards adding to their sides. Forenus and Forcas would both be contained right in the middle of the said formation, keeping an eye on all sides while scouts would carefully circle all around them.

They strode out in the desert, constantly moving about as to ensure they would not be caught off guard. They were extremely vigilant, making note of all nearby possible distractions and disturbances that they could sense within their line of sight, ensuring anything that was deemed as dangerous would be avoided and taken note of as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Nasiah carried his mother, tailing the others with his speed and senses, making sure to avoid their line of sight. However, halfway through, both of them were greeted by a strange yet familiar sight.

It was Musa, who seemed to be waiting for them under a dead tree. He raised his hand as if asking them to stop, which Nasiah did.

"Hmmm? Sir Musa? What are you doing here?" The young boy tilted his head in confusion as he looked out to the sage and then to the group in the distance carrying the prisoners.

The blind man just smiled. "I was here to stop Queen Myrym from possibly getting hurt from what will happen next?"

Nasiah immediately understood the severity of the situation and simply asked. "What will happen next?"

And right on cue, in the distance, all around the envoy of prisoners and guards, fire and brimstone erupted.
