Chapter 17 - New me, who dis?

Wendy slitted her eyes, I could see the suspicion marked on her lips. After many seconds later she opened her mouth ready to speak her mind.

Like the gift she had been, alleviating my tired soul. Melody, the sweet girl, several feet behind Wendy raised her hand.

Ugh, my heart!

"Yes, Melody, you know someone!" I jump up from where I was seated. Effectively cutting Wendy off from what ever lecture she had brewing on the tip of her tongue.

All eyes now on Melody.

"I er…" She looked back and forth between me and Wendy. Deciding which one of us was the 'safer' person.

Melody, my dear, I chided internally, none of us were, if truth be told. I sure as heck was not even remotely sane. Knowing that I had to replan my whole preconceived notion of how this world worked and how I should go about it.

"Well?" I pushed. " Well, Miss, may I ask why would you want to know of someone stronger then your finace the prince?"

Damn Melody, you failed me.

'Ugh'

I dropped back down to my seat. Tossing my head back in discontent. That was the last kind of question I expected. Also, how was I going to explain that to a someone whose eyes shone of pure curiosity and naviety.

Doing a double check, I tossed my head back.

Yeah, pure naviety.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, a inhale a deep breath. How could I explain to the this girl…

Oh wait. I had it.

I straighen myself back up on my chair, the triumphant face Wendy had changed, puckering her lips. Waiting for me to say my ridiculous line.

"Melody, I..I have a confession." I sounded downtrodden. Dropping my shoudlers and expression.

A loud sigh of exsaperation was heard and I knew Wendy was at her wits end at the moment with me. But suprising didn't say anything. Instead, started to doing other things around the rooms. Leaving me alone with my cute ginueapig.

Melody's eyes sparkled of hope and dreams, all the things I needed for her at the moment.

"Well, I want to learn to sword fight."

The silence was heard, but I saw Melody, cover her mouth in aghasted surprised. Hurriedly she spoke. "Miss, you shouldn't want to do those things! What if you hurt your self!"

"No..no Melody. You misunderstood." Cut her off. "You see I, I don't have any special talents." I hinted at the other elephant in the room. Now the silence was roaring. Which had me picking up my head. All eyes were directed at me.

All sympathetic suddenly. Even Wendy, whom knew me by now, looked dishearten by my fake admission.

I mean sure. Maybe I was a bit upset that my talents in magic weren't as strong as the Saintess at the moment. One thing I hated besides cheaters, was feeling weak.

The incident with the Prince told me as much.

Also, the only jealous feeling I had towards the pair was the matter of how they were able to continue to fool everyone into believing them blameless.

Well I couldn't get upset over something trivial as their roles in the novel. They were the ML and FL, but I sure as hell was going to drop them off that pedestal. A year later and that wasn't going to make me change what I needed to do.

"Miss, I didn't…"

"Its okay Wendy." I waved it off but continue my act. You see I want to become stronger, and well" I allowed some mana flow out my hand. A redish aura appeared and just as quickly dimmed. "I am not strong with magic. And I can't say I am academically incline like Cedric." I sighed deeply. Cedric was one the Princes right hand man in the novel.

Given the guys inept talent with governing laws, economy and foreign poltics, the guy was well on his way to becoming the next ministry of the Empire.

I mean, maybe still could since I redirected the novel. In Priscillas version, alot was taken from him. When a small bordered war broke out due to some actions of Priscilla's unlnown doing. Cedric volunteered to be sent out as a mediator. Cedric, the mastermind, knew of Priscilla invovlement, as a her brother, and loyality to teh Empire. He wanted to right her wrong.

Sadly, the price was his life.

Something inside me echoed.

I need to get stronger to save them…

Cedric wasn't the only person lost to the Haust House.

'Come Prissy, you can hold my hand.'

"Miss?" I snapped back into the present. Noting that Melody was in front of me, her brows furrowed in concern.

"Ah don't mind me." I sheepishly smiled.

"Ofcourse Miss, but you seemed really heart broken."

'Huh'

I had? Strange….

"Miss?" I looked around Melody, who also turned. Ruth had moved forward, her lithe frame, reminding me of a ballerina, while her cat eyes, seeing everything. If this was modern times I could so see her tatted up, with priecings all over.

"Yeah, Ruth?"

"I may…know a guy who can help." She jutted her chin out. Intreseting. I smirked. I guess our dear Ruth was full of suprises.

"Okay, can you tell me who he is?"

"Yes, but I can't say his the most, er how do you say it? Established individual."

Even better in my book. I shrug my shoulder. Making it known. I didn't need a stuffy instructor with a stick up his ass. I needed someone competent in helping me gain more skills.

"I apologize if I may have over stepped."

Huh.

Oh, noting that I had zoned out. Smh. Focus!

"Ruth, if am entirely honest, am not into the whole title stuff. If you say there good, then I believe you." Making eye contact with her. Unlike Wendy and Melody, Ruth's attitude had significantly soften. But it was no where near how they behaved around me.

I could see the apprenhension behind her brown eyes. She wasn't one that you could easily fool, which in hindsight could prove useful within the Count von Haust household.

Loyality wasn't something I could cultivate, like I had with Wendy. Time wasn't on my end at the moment. I could only know her true nature by givng her an inch, and hoped she didn't fail me.

But my hunch told me to give her a chance.

'When can I meet him?" I asked, I stood, moving toward Wendy's disapproving gaze. As I stood in front of the mirrior, I saw Ruth mull over her decesion. Wendy had started helping me prepare. "If you would like, I could send a letter today, to meet tomorrow."

"No, I am going out today, send it out now so I can meet with him." Ruth, surprised, nodded and took off.

Which reminded me. I needed to do some shopping.

Looking at the reflection in the mirror. The dress, which looked expensive looked…so plain. Frowning becuase I just noted something in particular. All of Priscilla's dress were all like that. Nothing fanciful or eye catching as you would assume a villianous wearing. Noting all I could peek from this direction has soften tone to them.

That had to change. I should probably take care of it today. Realizing I had some extra spending cash.

Oh and I had to check in on my long term investment.

I twirl a bit in the light color blue dress, tilting my head to the side. Hmm. I could why she choose these colors now. Noting how the red hair on my shoulder looked against the color. It was stutle, but still. I swirled around, Wendy now pulling out some ribbons.

Oh yeah.

I suppose this was going to be more fun, for Wendy. Seeing how she loved dressing me up.

"Hey Wendy, what colors do you think would go best with my complexion?" I asked, seeing the spark in her eyes. Ha!

"Welll, if you tell me all these are nice, but don't do you any justice Miss Priscilla."

Yeah, Wendy was going love this, now looking at Melody shyly look at me and place items on my dresser.

Might as well make this a girls trip. Seeing how Melody, who unlike the other lady maid did have a ribbon or any accessories on. She would look so adorable with some colorful bows. Looking at her round face and doe eyes. Oh and some ribbons?

"Melody, go get ready your coming with me and Ruth"

"Oh Miss." She squeaked surprised looking inbetween me and Wendy, confused.

"What are you waiting for Melody, put on something light over your uniform." Wendy commended, watching as she lips stretched and I watched Melody race to do Wendy bidding.

After we both heard the door shut in place. Wendy turned to me, shaking her head and esperated but still engergized.

"Oh come one, it'll be us girls outing."

"Miss, you need to have better rein. You know words may be spread."

"What words?" I asked, genuinely confused.
