Chapter 20 - An Unexpected Interruption

The throne room erupted into murmurs and gasps as the various Pokémon materialized before the crowd, each one representing a different type. The Pokémon stood calmly in place, their eyes reflecting intelligence and curiosity as they regarded the gathered nobles and advisors. Their presence was undeniable; each exuded a unique aura, hinting at the power and potential that lay within them.

The reactions among the nobles were mixed. Noblewomen in elegant gowns found their gazes drawn to the more graceful and refined Pokémon such as Cinccino and Tsareena, their elegant forms captivating and evoking murmurs of admiration. The men, on the other hand, were visibly impressed by the more formidable-looking Pokémon like Darmanitan and Haxorus, whose muscular frames and fierce appearances exuded raw strength. Some of the younger nobles even leaned forward, clearly enthralled by the sight of the Pokémon that looked ready for battle.

Before the din could grow any louder, the armored man standing beside the King—barked a command. "Silence!" His voice echoed through the chamber, cutting through the noise and restoring order with practiced authority.

With the room quieted, Daniel took a step forward and began to address the King. "Your Majesty, what you see before you are examples of the many types of Pokémon. Each of these eighteen Pokémon represents a unique typing, with distinct abilities and characteristics that set them apart from one another." He gestured toward the Pokémon arrayed before him, their eyes turning toward him in attention.

Daniel began introducing each Pokémon one by one, describing their typing and abilities in detail. "This is Orbeetle, a Bug-type Pokémon. It has psychic powers in addition to its bug characteristics, making it exceptionally intelligent. Zebstrika, an Electric-type, can generate high-voltage shocks capable of stunning even the most resilient foes."

As Daniel spoke, he instructed each Pokémon to give a small demonstration. Orbeetle's eyes glowed as it levitated its body without the need to flap its wings, while Zebstrika released a spark that crackled through the air, making a few nobles flinch.

"Darmanitan here is a Fire-type, with flames hotter than a furnace. It can manipulate its inner fire to become a destructive force in battle." At his cue, Darmanitan opened its mouth and let out a small burst of flame that swirled in the air like a fiery serpent, dissipating before it reached the ceiling.

The audience watched each demonstration with a mixture of astonishment and apprehension. The King observed in silence, his gaze unwavering as he took in every word and display. Next, Daniel introduced Tsareena, a Grass-type Pokémon. The elegant Pokémon executed a graceful spin, causing the leaves on the nearby decorative plants to dance as if stirred by a breeze.

"Cinccino, a Normal-type, uses its fur to deflect attacks and even launch them back with force," Daniel explained as Cinccino playfully flicked its fluffy tail, creating a gentle shockwave that ruffled the tapestries nearby.

The Rock-type Graveler, with its bulky frame and rugged appearance, caused a few whispers to erupt among the nobles as Daniel explained its incredible durability. "Its body is as hard as stone, capable of withstanding intense impacts without flinching," he noted as the Pokémon demonstrated by slamming its rocky fist into the each other, creating a loud boom.

Daniel moved on to Sableye, the Dark-type, who grinned mischievously and allowed its eyes to glow like gems in the dim lighting. "This Pokémon's dark powers are unnerving to some, but it is highly perceptive and resourceful."

Ribombee, a Fairy-type Pokémon, fluttered its wings gracefully, scattering shimmering dust that sparkled in the air. "Fairy-types are known for their magical abilities," Daniel explained. "They are deceptively strong despite their appearance."

"Sirfetch'd here is a fighting type Pokémon. Using a reinforced leaf as a shield and leak as a shield, both of its own design. He is a formidable opponent for anyone brave enough to challenge him in a physical battle."

As Daniel continued to introduce each Pokémon, he observed the reactions from the King and his advisors. The Court Magician, in particular, seemed to be watching with an intensity that went beyond mere curiosity. Even though his face remained hidden beneath the hood, his posture was one of utter focus. Meanwhile, the Armored General couldn't keep his eyes off Sirfetch'd, the Fighting-type Pokémon, who held its leek sword with the poise of a seasoned warrior.

Hippowdon, the Ground-type, stirred up a small cloud of sand at Daniel's command, showcasing its control over the earth.

Drapion, a Poison-type Pokémon, demonstrated its ability by showcasing its tail and pinchers, giving a clear view of the faint purple hue that would unmistakably leave its prey poisoned. "A dangerous ability to produce poison on command," Daniel explained.

Next came Skarmory, a Steel-type, which clanked its metallic wings together, producing a sound that resonated like swords clashing. "Its body is like armor," Daniel said. "Hard and sharp."

Haxorus, the Dragon-type, let out a low growl, baring its tusks for all to see. Its sheer presence caused some of the nobles to draw back in their seats. The King himself was most satisfied with this one thinking to himself that a dragon would truly be the perfect companion for a King. Mismageous, a Ghost-type, floated eerily in the air, a soft whisper escaping its lips as it moved silently, occasionally disappearing one place and reapering in another leaving some frightened.

Cryogonal, the Ice-type, breathed a small, concentrated blast of cold air that left frost on the nearest stone column. Reuniclus, the Psychic-type, controlled several small items within the room to start floating as its body was surrounded by a faint, glowing aura.

Finally, Daniel introduced Blastoise, the Water-type Pokémon. "Blastoise is a powerful Water-type capable of controlling vast amounts of water," Daniel said as Blastoise fired a jet of water into the air, the stream falling back down like rain.

As the demonstrations concluded, the throne room was left in an almost reverent silence. The nobles seemed to be on the edge of their seats, their previous skepticism now mingled with awe. Even the King found himself struggling to maintain his dignified posture as he observed these incredible creatures. It was clear that the Pokémon had left a strong impression on all present.

With the audience still captivated, Daniel took the opportunity to signal Elizabeth to step forward. "Your Majesty," he said, "I would like to introduce you to my adopted daughter, Elizabeth."

Elizabeth hesitated for a moment, nervous under the watchful eyes of so many important people, but she quickly gathered her courage and stepped forward. At Daniel's instruction, she brought out Squirtle, the small Water-type appearing in a flash of light before her.

"Squirtle is a Water-type Pokémon, like Blastoise," Daniel explained. "However, Squirtle is what we call a 'first-stage' Pokémon, while Blastoise is its final evolution."

Daniel then proceeded to explain the concept of evolution to the King and the court. "As Pokémon grow and gain experience in battle, they evolve into more powerful forms. It is a natural process of growth for them, one that occurs as they overcome challenges."

The onlookers stared at Squirtle and then at Blastoise, their eyes flicking back and forth between the two. The resemblance was undeniable, but the idea that such a small and adorable creature could transform into the massive, imposing Blastoise was almost too fantastical to believe.

Blastoise, noticing Squirtle's gaze, stood a little straighter, its cannons extending slightly as if to look more impressive. Squirtle stared up at Blastoise with wide eyes, clearly in awe of its future potential.

As the crowd murmured, the King finally broke the silence, his voice carrying a note of genuine interest. "This evolution... it is akin to a form of metamorphosis, then?"

"Yes, Your Majesty," Daniel said. "It is similar to how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. Evolution in Pokémon is a sign of growth and strength, and it is a natural part of their development."

There was a thoughtful silence as everyone seemed to process this new information. The idea of evolution had clearly sparked curiosity, but also a hint of wariness. Just as the murmurs began to rise again, the King spoke.

"Daniel," he said, his tone contemplative. "What is your intention for these creatures? What role do you envision for them in the future?"

Daniel did not hesitate. "Your Majesty, my goal is for Pokémon and humans to grow and bond together. I want people to know the joy of having a Pokémon partner. These creatures can do more than just fight. They can make life easier and even save lives. For example, a Fire-type like Darmanitan can provide warmth during a harsh winter. A Poison-type like Drapion can detect toxic substances, potentially saving someone from being poisoned."

The King nodded slowly, clearly considering Daniel's words. "And you believe these creatures can be of benefit not only to me, but to my kingdom as a whole?"

"I do, Your Majesty," Daniel said earnestly. "Pokémon have potential far beyond what we have shown here today. If given a chance, they can bring great prosperity to your people."

The room was silent for a moment. Everyone had to take a moment to process everything that they'd just learned. The King contemplated for a few moments before he opened his mouth to speam.

Before the King could utter a word, however, a commotion erupted outside the throne room, followed by the hurried footsteps of a guard approaching the General. The general leaned down to listen to the guard's urgent whisper, his expression turning grave.

Straightening up, he addressed the King, his voice steady but tense. "Your Majesty, a horde of Goblins has been spotted advancing toward the city. They will reach the walls within the hour."

The nobles exchanged alarmed glances, their apprehension evident. The King remained composed, his voice commanding as he continued, "Prepare the guards and order all citizens to stay within their homes. I want the city sealed and every archer on the walls. We will not be caught unprepared."

The nobles in the room were already exchanging worried glances, whispers of fear and concern spreading among them. The news of an approaching goblin horde struck a chord; goblins were known for their viciousness and cunning, and a large enough group could cause significant damage if left unchecked.

As King Aldric prepared to stand and dismiss the court, Daniel took a bold step forward, his voice rising above the murmurs. "Your Majesty, if I may," he began, drawing the attention of the room back to him. "I would like to offer my assistance in defending the city. My Pokémon and I can meet the horde outside the walls and stop them before they even reach your gates."

Several nobles scoffed at the audacity of the offer. One of them stood up and spoke dismissively, "You cannot possibly understand what you are suggesting, boy! These are not mere bandits or wild beasts—this is an entire horde. You overestimate your capabilities if you think a handful of unusual creatures can stand against such a threat."

Ignoring the noble's comment, Daniel kept his gaze on the King, his voice firm and confident. "Your Majesty, allow me to show you the capabilities of my Pokémon. If we confront the goblins outside the walls, we can minimize the risk to your city. Even if we cannot defeat them outright, we can at least delay their advance and weaken their numbers."

The room was silent, all eyes turning to the King, who regarded Daniel thoughtfully. His expression revealed nothing of his thoughts as he weighed Daniel's words. It was a bold offer, one that could save lives—or at the very least prolong them if Daniel failed.

The armored general stepped forward. "If he is willing to put himself at risk, let him try," he said, his tone gruff. "If his creatures can indeed fight, then we can use all the help we can get. If not, we will still have time to reinforce the walls and prepare for their arrival."

The King remained silent for a moment longer, then slowly nodded. "Very well," he said, his tone decisive. "You and your creatures may face the goblin horde outside the walls, Daniel. But heed my words—if you or your creatures endanger my people or fail in this task, I will not hesitate to act. Do I make myself clear?"

"Perfectly, Your Majesty," Daniel replied with a respectful bow.

King Aldric then motioned to one of the guards. "Ensure that the gates are opened for Daniel and his Pokémon. Have the archers stand ready to provide support if necessary. We will observe this... demonstration."
