Herbs, medicine and the clanging of metallic tools permeated the room. Dr Solas gave a soft sigh as he sat down on one of his office chairs, the entrance ceremony hadn't even started yet and someone was already injured.
Not that he didn't expect it, he already knew who it was. The bastard son of the Rosvault Family, ever since he entered the academy a year ago, he had been a frequent patient of his clinic, simply because he was from the Rosvault family, an infamous family.
Solas couldn't help but feel pity for the child, he was sure that the boy was sent to the academy to die or that he entered willingly to avoid his family as the academy is neutral grounds
Especially since he was from the Rosvault Family, he was pretty sure that the Rosvault family was once a collateral family from the Voltair Duchy, now they are their own. Solas heard the news that the same family was doing the dirty under the noses of the nobles.
Solas could still remember the eldest son of the Rosvault family, there wasn't a day when he worked in the clinic. Solas sighed right in time the young boy started stirring from his sleep.
Solas waited till the student finally woke up, at first he looked disoriented having a face that seemed to ask why he was in the clinic. When the student's eyes landed on him, Solas knew he would be questioned like usual.
"W-what time is it?" The boy asked.
"It's eight o clock, or two weeks away from the entrance ceremony if that was you're asking," Solas said casually.
The boy stumbled for a bit but managed to sit down on the bed. He grumbled for a bit before standing up. "Thank you, doc." Solas shrugged and before he could offer words of caution the boy left the infirmary.
"Hmm…" Solas felt something unusual but didn't comment on it.
***
The boy walked back to his dorm in a hurry, thankfully he didn't meet any of his classmates even as he closed the door behind him.
His last memory was being ambushed in the hallway before he got to his last class for the semester. He sat down at his bed and sighed heavily.
"Another one," Eclair spoke.
His eyes were dark and faded, a clear sign of surrender upon his life. He raised his index finger and conjured a little ball, the magic bolt which is one of the simplest Omi techniques out there.
All of his classmates already had their Art but he was still relying on techniques, with the standards of sorcerers, he, Eclair, is a failure of a sorcerer and probably would not graduate the academy much less attend next year.
Eclair felt his eyes moisten and soon felt his cheeks too, he could not help but feel helpless in his situation, he couldn't do it anymore, going back to the Rosvault family is suicide but quitting the academy would get him hunted too.
He went to the academy to avoid the family after all, being an illegitimate child was considered a bad omen for the family, after all.
He sighed, it was best to quit, he had learned enough, and he could at least work for some merchant group or whatever. He went to his bedside table and opened its drawer.
Inside a notebook, some yellow talisman and his pendant that contained his mother's only memory remaining.
He sighed, he opened the pendant to see a hair lock and a small folded paper, once the paper was opened he could see that there was an instruction.
'Once you no longer know what path you should take, open the lock inside the pendent, above where my hair is stored.'
Eclair stared at it for a moment, he already lost the will to do anything, if there was any moment he didn't know what path to trek now was the time.
He searched for anything at the edges of the pendant for a moment, visually, nothing appeared but once he looked hard enough he could tell there was a small notch inside.
Eclair reached with his nail and heard a click, he found that theres another chamber within the pendant. What he saw inside was a small crystal with another note of paper.
'Swallow, make sure you know how to control Omi, what lies inside is a piece of you, my son. Whatever it is, I hope it finds you.'
Eclair's eyes lingered a bit at the piece of paper before folding it and looking at the small crystal smaller than his fingernail. He sighed and went to grab a cup of water before swallowing the crystal with a gulp.
Eclair waited for a bit to see what would happen but was disappointed after a few minutes when nothing happened at all, he sighed and sat down on the bed and after a while of deliberating, laid down the bed.
Since he already knew his fate, it was useless to run away now. Trying to stay at this academy and improve his already doomed state is just trying to squeeze blood from a stone.
Theres absolutely nothing he could do, he laid down sideways and clutched the pendant closely, Eclair missed his mother.
As far as he could remember, Eclair was just living in a remote village when it was surrounded by knights, calling his mother's name.
After that, he was taken to the Rosvault estate, there is where his suffering began with his mother.
"If you are of no use to the family then only death awaits you."
Is what he would commonly hear from his 'father'. Aside from his mother, there is only one person in that family that he could seek comfort from.
Eclair wondered what she was doing these days. Wish he could visit her so they could talk about their stories but right now, Eclair only wanted to rest. So he closed his eyes with a soft sigh.
…
…
…
"Yo David, you coming or what?" A boy with spiky hair teasingly said to another.
"Damn, bro could you fucking wait?" was a reply from another boy with a cut on his lips "Im tryna tie my shoe here."
"Nuh uh"
"The fuck you mean nu uh?!"
'...?!' Eclair was baffled.
