Chapter 3 - 3

Why was Omi output not taught at the academy? It is, Eclair was sure it was taught in third grade before anything else.

Why? He was sure somebody forcefully made their Output high by creating an Art related to it.

In the eyes of the Academy and the Sorcerer Association, that is a huge waste. Omi Output grows over time through training or intense battles. Making an Art with a purpose that could be achieved over time is stupid.

That is probably why they teach Omi Output in Third Grade, to make sure that the students have already made an Art according to their Affinities.

Eclair stared at his hand, his affinity is Projector, an affinity that could release his Essence out of his body without decaying for a long time, to apply this to his Omi. Essence is equal to life force, the fuel to everyone's omi.

Omi is a controlled essence, it is different from just being able to manipulate essence, its essence in one's control and whim. A sorcerer also has types of Essence, every sorcerer had an affinity to four types, Augmentor, Projector, Shaper and Invoker.

Augmentor and Projector are total opposites and Invoker and Shaper are opposites.

The easiest way to explain each affinity is this:

Augmentor- Uses Essence to Enhance or to Amplify.

Projector- Ejects Essence out of the body without decay or loss of power.

Invoker- uses Essence to Summon Beasts or Conjure objects.

Shaper- could shape Essence into objects and mimic properties or traits of objects.

Eclair contemplated for a while, in his Omi Affinity evaluation he has (-0.8,0) meaning that his potential on Projection is over 0.8 which ranks him below 25% efficiency on every Art or Technique he makes.

Eclair leaned forward grabbing his head, but then it wasn't the Omi that made a sorcerer dangerous, it was the Sorcerer itself. First, Eclair had to make an Art here and now.

Eclair checked the time, and it was early in the morning. He wouldn't be late for anything since the semester had already ended. He focused on his finger, and a ball soon appeared and shot it out.

The ball made of Essence flew in a straight line before hitting the ceiling, a slight crack appeared, and the damage was small but noticeable. Eclair pursed his lips. The problem in him, Eclair surmised, must be his discipline.

There are five disciplines of control when it comes to Omi, Guard, Aura, Percept, Temper, and Conceal.

Just like its name, Guard is when you take Essence and keep it inside your body. This is used defensively and offensively by fortifying one's body.

Aura is when Essence is released out of the body. It could be used defensively and offensively but it's mostly used offensively, like sending out Omi with malice could be seen as an attack.

Percept is exactly as it sounds, it's using Essence to enhance one's senses, all six of them but most of the time the sorcerers are taught to see someone else's Essence first, after all, it's easier to see your essence since it's yours.

Conceal is exactly as it sounds, conceal is when you take in all of your Essence and minimize control by turning off the contact between the body and the soul with your mind. This discipline is also dangerous as its function is to hide one's Essence, without control of it a sorcerer is in danger as they cannot use Guard or Aura.

Temper is imbuing one's will on the essence. Basically by adding will, a sorcerer can use their Essence as a weapon or enhance their defense.

By training these disciplines a Sorcerer could expand their Output, Eclair must have neglected Temper or Percept.

He could remember training Aura and Guard because he thought it would expand his Output not knowing he needed to train them all to do so.

Eclair was different now, he was motivated and knowledgeable. His Omi Art could be postponed for a bit, Eclair was sure he would fumble it all up if he was hasty.

Since the Entrance ceremony was about two weeks away, he was sure that he could at least train for a week, and then soon create his Art after.

But to train for a week and make changes? That's impossible, he had to train nonstop without rest. Eclair is just human, he would die if he were overworked.

But he isn't completely helpless, he knew someone who could help with that. Eclair stood up and took a shower, before leaving his dorms and heading to the Academy's clinic.

His foot led him to the most familiar site he had known through the year. Eclair's hand reached the handle of the door before pushing in, the same clinic greeted him.

"Who is it?"

And a familiar voice he knew through the year, the one who pitied him at first and soon gave up trying to help him. Eclair's foot led him to the office chair of the Academy's doctor.

The man sighed and looked at Eclair. "What is it now? What injuries did you get?" He asked irritably, already knowing who he was after Eclair walked closer.

"I'm not here because of any injury," Eclair said calmly.

"Then why are you here?"

"The Counseling for Failing Students. I'm here for that."

"..." Solas stared at Eclair for a moment. "Something changed."

"Yes," Eclair answered simply.

"..." Solas was silent for a moment, leaning to the chair he was sitting in and tapping his fingers at the desk. "Alright. So you choose me for help?"

"Yes. I wanted to train everything I had for a week. Sir, you're the only one who could help me with that."

Solas looked at the teenage boy in front of him, he had a serious face unlike before. Solas was sure that Eclair's face was that of a dead man.

Trying to help him multiple times in the past led him to even more despair, at some point, Solas gave up because he felt hopeless too. But now he looked at Eclair and theres a burning determination in his eyes, he hoped that this time, his help wouldn't be wasted.

"Fine, but what kind of training is it that you need my help exactly?"

"I plan to train nonstop. Until I reach my goal."

Solas' brows furrowed and he looked at Eclair with a bit of suspicion. "You don't mean…"

"Yes, I will do it even if my body breaks."

"Hold on, kid. What kind of goal is this we talking about?" Solas is starting to get worried.

"I'm planning to reach an output of 10%" Eclair answered honestly.

Solas' eyes widened. "That's not something a first-year student should learn. Where did you learn that?!"

"I… have an output of 7% don't I?" Eclair looked down. "I saw it in my evaluation when the examiner wasn't looking."

"..." Solas pursed his lip and pinched the bridge of his nose. He glared at the boy standing in front of him.

But he couldn't deny the resolution this boy had made, Solas' Art isn't a secret in the Academy.

[Wound Buffet] is its name, despite its ominous name, [Wound Buffet] could be used for his occupation.

Solas could invoke a Summoned beast named Torako out of his Omi, it can latch to a target and its function is about depositing the target's injury to itself in the form of a number on its head.

Of course, there's a limitation to this, the model body Torako uses is Solas' body, if the deposited injury would theoretically kill Solas then Torako explodes and the target dies immediately.

Over time, Torako reduces the number on its head from the sum of the target's head and the rate of 8%. If it reaches zero then Torako vanishes and the target would not suffer from anything.

'This boy plans to use my Art to train as much as he can for a week.'

Solas is willing, however, he has a problem with it. First, the conditions for [Wound Buffet] include him feeling every injury that gets deposited.

He wouldn't suffer any damage but rather feel it. This is the condition he is fine with, rather it's the other condition he has a problem with.

It's that if the injuries from [Wound Buffet] made him pass out, the Art will be cancelled and all injuries deposited will be returned to the target.

Meaning, that if he were to ever pass out while Eclair is training then he will be placed in immediate danger.

'Though, it's not like I can't take it.' Solas thought.

"Fine," Solas Answered. "When do you plan to start?"

"Now if possible."

Solas liked that answer.
