"Hey, Vivi, keep an eye on them! Don't let them slack off!" Kai shouted to Vivi, who was sitting comfortably on a stool nearby. She had an important job, even while relaxing—supervising Luffy and the others' training!
After a brief pit stop, Vivi decided to continue her journey with the crew, while Igaram stayed back at Whiskey Peak. Everyone, except Nami who was navigating, sat blindfolded on the deck, each holding a wooden staff. They formed a small circle, waving their sticks around, while screams and groans echoed continuously.
This chaotic training was Kai's method to help them develop Observation Haki, much like how Rayleigh trained Luffy. However, the difference was that they "helped" each other, which meant Kai got to nap half the day.
"Hmm... this is the life," Kai thought as he stretched out for a nap.
He wasn't sure how long he'd been sleeping when suddenly...
"Hey everyone, try my special drink!" Luffy's cheerful voice woke him up.
Kai opened his eyes and saw the crew lounging around, happily sipping drinks, their heads still covered from the training earlier.
"Not bad," Kai thought as he grabbed a drink and took a refreshing sip.
"Kai, how long do we have to keep training like this?" Luffy asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
With a defeated look, Luffy groaned, "How much longer, Kai? We've been training non-stop! First, we get beaten for days, then we get no sleep, and now, more training? I'm exhausted!"
Kai chuckled, "You'll keep at it until you awaken Observation Haki. Once you do, you won't need this kind of training anymore. You'll improve in battles naturally."
Luffy's face fell. "And when exactly do we awaken it?"
Kai shrugged. "Depends on your talent. But one thing's for sure, stop focusing on just getting hit. Pay attention to the shifts around you—when you do, you'll wake up to it."
As Luffy looked around, seeing Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp back at training, he jumped up. "I'm the captain, I can't be weaker than my crew!"
Kai smiled at Luffy's determination. "Good spirit," he thought, feeling a fatherly sense of pride. Especially when he looked at Usopp—his most unexpected improvement. Whether it was the tough love about his father or something else, Usopp had become the most diligent in training, which earned him Kai's admiration.
Kai gazed out to the endless sea, his mind wandering to their next destination. "Little Garden... this is going to be fun," he mused.
A few days later, the crew finally reached Little Garden. As Kai gazed at the prehistoric plants and ancient beasts, his eyes gleamed with excitement. This island was like a window into an ancient world—dinosaurs, saber-toothed tigers, and the two giant warriors from Elbaf, Dorry and Brogy, who had been fighting here for a century.
The giants, each with a bounty of 100 million berries—a huge sum in those days—had Kai curious. "I'd love to see the power of their combined attack," he thought, recalling their famous feat of destroying Kid's ship in the future.
Of course, he had a plan. If things got dicey, he could always escape with his trusty flying cloud. No need to be a foolhardy warrior like Luffy.
Meanwhile, Nami's legs trembled as she saw the massive ancient creatures roaming the island. "Y-You know, we could just stay on the ship and wait for the Log Pose to recharge," she suggested, hoping for a way out. "Right, Usopp?"
But Usopp, who usually shared her fear, was surprisingly calm, staring ahead with steely eyes.
Kai chuckled, impressed. "Seems like the training's really paid off—he's finally growing up."
However, internally, Usopp was a bundle of nerves, forcing himself to keep it together. "I'm a warrior of the sea... I can handle this!" he thought, but then, in an instant, his courage evaporated.
"Actually, Nami, I think you're right! Let's just stay on the ship!" Usopp blurted, trembling.
"Ugh, classic Usopp," Kai muttered, slapping his forehead. "So much for progress."
Shaking his head, Kai stepped onto the island, eager to explore the ancient landscape. As his feet touched the ground, a familiar sound echoed in his mind.
Ding! Congratulations! You've successfully checked in at Little Garden. Your Armament Haki has been upgraded to intermediate level!
A wave of energy surged through Kai's body, and when it subsided, he raised his arm, instantly coating it with Armament Haki. It felt stronger, more refined.
"Not bad," he thought, but a question nagged at him.
"System, when do I unlock Ryuo?" he asked, referring to the advanced form of Armament Haki.
Ding! When you reach the advanced level of Armament Haki, you will automatically master Ryuo. However, it is a technique, not purely a power upgrade.
Kai sighed. "So I've gotta figure it out myself, huh?"
The system's response left him no choice but to wait until he leveled up further. Mastering such a technical skill wasn't something you could just brute force.
"Guess I'll wait until the system unlocks it. Trying to figure it out on my own would be like someone telling me to build a nuclear reactor with just the theory of atomic fission," he grumbled to himself.
For now, though, he was content with his current power. Little Garden awaited exploration, and he couldn't wait to see what new challenges and discoveries lay ahead.
