I looked at the system notification a little confused. Sure the rock hermit could use magic but it was still weaker than a moss rat, yet I got 50 xp for killing the rock hermit whilst I only get 30 xp for killing a moss rat.
Was the fact that it can use magic really why it was worth more xp or was I something els?
I try thinking of any other reason, but can't seem to think of any. giving up, I decide to just head home for the night. I've been fighting for most of the day and it's getting pretty late.
I take one last look at the rock hermit before walking over to where I killed the 3 moss rats. I carefully inspect the rabbit they were carrying earlier before deciding I'm going to take it home with me to eat in the morning.
I eat one of the moss rats before scooping the rabbit onto my back and start walking home.
I arrive home just as it starts getting dark, having only encountered 1 moss rat on the way home I managed to get home quite quick. I drop the rabbit off my back and drag it into my den. I then lie-down on my makeshift bed and turn in for the night.
I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed, i aim to finish my quest today but before that I need to eat the rabbit from last night.
Honestly i've been looking forward to this. I never tried rabbit in my previous like but I ofter heard my dad talking about how nice it was, so I always wanted to try it.
This rabbit is slightly different than the ones I remember from earth. It's pure white and looks exactly the same apart from its ears, its ears are rolled extremely tight and they look as if they're made of pure muscle.
Out of curiosity I decide to appraise the rabbit.
[deceased thumper rabbit]
Well at least it tells me it's deceased.
I start eating the rabbit and honestly, it's delicious! It tastes similar to chicken, but with a strong earthy flavour.
I finish it in no time and set out to hunt moss rats. I head back towards where I found their nest, in hope of finding enough moss rats to finish the quest today.
As I get close to their nest I stop to take a rest. Getting here I only found 3 moss rats, all 3 of them on separate occasions.
I only need to kill 5 more moss rats but I don't want to get any closer to their nest. The memory of what happened last time still scares me and even though i'm stronger now, I know i'm no where near strong enough to fight so many at once.
I decide to head in the direction that I saw the moss rats that were carrying the rabbit were coming from. I'm hoping to find a place where I can hunt the rabbits. After eating one this morning I really don't want to go back to eating moss rats.
I travel for about an hour, finding 1 more moss rat but no rabbits. I don't imagine the moss rats traveling much further than this just to hunt, especially when they have to drag they prey all the way back to there nest, so I must have gone the wrong way somewhere.
I decide to head back, as much as I want to find some rabbits, finding more moss rats should be my priority.
After trading back in what I thought was the direction a came from, I start to get worried. I should be back at the spot I rested at by now or at least close to it, but I don't think i'm even close. I keep going for another 10 minutes before coming to a stop.
There's a tree in front of me with vines coming off it. I have never see any vines in this forest until now.
I'm lost.
I didn't notice at first because I wasn't paying much attention. I was too focused on searching for the moss rats and other monsters.
Plus I was only walking in a straight line. How is it possible to get lost walking in a straight line?
I can't help but feel that something isn't right, I've explored new parts of the forest before and always felt like I can find my way home, but here I feel as if my sense of direction is completely gone.
I want to get out of this area but have absolutely no idea which way I should go. I try looking for any trace of my previous steps but find nothing.
I'm really starting to panic now!
I decide to just start running in a random direction. I don't know what's going on but I know I can't stay here.
I run for about 5 minutes, before I realise that i've ran in the wrong direction. I can see another tree with vines on in.
I change direction and carry on running. Again after about 5 minutes I come across another tree with vines on it.
I start panicking even more now. I don't know why but this unsettling feeling just won't go away. My mind is a complete mess and i'm unable to think straight.
I collapse to the floor and close my eyes, ready to just give up.
Why should I bother anymore?
I should just lay here and wait to...
[ding!]
[you have learn illusion resistance level 1]
Wait, what?
My eyes shoot open. I'm still in exactly the same place I was in before but my minds a bit clearer now.
If I managed to gain the illusion resistance skill then I must be in some kind of illusion!
I think the illusion must have been messing with my emotions, causing me to panic as much as I did. I still feel a but helpless but the uneasy feeling isn't as strong as it was before.
At least I now know that i'm not just lost, i'm trapped as well.
I need to find a way to break out of this illusion before whatever cast it on me decides to just kill me.
I just hope I can break out in time.
