Chapter 14 - You ain't no boss.

Flying through the air, I can't help thinking this is the end. I don't know how deep the wound on my side is, but I can tell it's fatal. I don't know if I'll get a chance to reincarnate again, but if I do I would like a family. I don't mind being a fox again but I hope I could get a family I could love and trust, maybe a little fox sibling, I can grow up up with. I could teach them to hunt and protect them from any dangers.

I don't know why, but my mind always wonders when I'm about to die. The same thing happened when I was falling from the roof. Back then my thoughts went to my family as well. I guess it's because they're the only ones whom I ever felt truly loved me, the only ones whom I ever felt I could truly trust. I guess ill finally get to see them again after all this time...

CRUNCH!

[ding!]

[you have killed a moss rat and gained 30 xp]

[ding!]

[level up! you are now level 4!]

A familiar warmth spreads over me, healing my body from its near death state.

Huh? What happened? How am I still alive? How did I level up?

I get to my feet still confused about how I could have possibly survived. Feeling something wet on my paw I glance down to find I am standing in a puddle of blood belonging to a dead moss rat.

How...? No way...

Did I really kill this moss rat just by landing on it? How fast must I have been flying through the air, to actually kill it by landing on it? How lucky must I have been to actually land on the only normal moss rat around?

SCREEECH!

The loud screech wakes me up from my thoughts. I look at the boss rat, a wave of determination sweeping over me.

I can fight now.

My mp is full again, after I levelled up. Im sorry mum, dad but it looks like we won't be meeting just yet. Im not going to waste this chance, I'm going to kill this stupid rat and make it my dinner. Im going to kill it and show everyone I'm more than just some guy that can be used and then thrown away.

The boss rat stares at me and lets out another screech.

SCREEECH!

I can tell it's angry. Angry at me for still being alive. Angry at be for having the audacity to challenge it, but I don't care. It can be angry at me. Im still going to kill it.

I activate my shadow magic and aim to cover its eyes, it screeches again and lunges straight at me, but I've already activated my dash skill, so I dodge it with ease.

I lunge at it activating my bite skill aiming to bite the side of its neck but I'm forced to stop by its tail, being swung towards me. I duck under it, just about dodging the attack.

It seems this boss rat is smarter than everything else I've faced, it doesn't panic just because it can't see. Instead it's using its hearing to try and determine where I am. That's fine , I don't need to take away its sight just to beat it. I'll beat it even if I have to chip away at its health bit by bit.

It's slower than me whilst I have my dash skin activated, so I have 3 minutes to try to do as much damage as I can.

I lunge towards it again, this time keeping an eye on the tail. As expected it swings its tail at me yet again. It's still blind do its easy to dodge the attack, but this time instead of ducking under it, I jump over it still aiming at its body.

Scratch!

It cries out in pain and jumps back out of my reach.

"how do you like that? That's exactly what you just done to me!"

I lunge towards it yet again, but this time I move the shadow from its eyes down to its feet.

Surprised by its vision suddenly returning, it fails to react in time.

Scratch! right on the same spot I attacked before. Blood starts dripping out as the boss rat howls in pain again. It tries spinning round so it can attack me with its claws, but its movements are slow with my shadow magic coving its feet and I've already launched into another attack scratching the same place once again.

[ding!]

[shadow magic levelled up to level 3]

"perfe...omph!"

Distracted by the system notification, I get walloped buy its tail, sending me flying a couple of meters. I immediately get back up, not caring about the damage done to my own body, what's a few cracked ribs compare to almost having your stomach sliced open?

The boss rat lunges straight at me, no longer slowed down by my shadow magic due to me taking that hit. I'm not worried though. My shadow magic just turned level 3 and I can feel the difference. It's faster than before and I don't need to use an existing shadow to make it work. I can simply create my.

I create a rectangular shadow right in front of me, and dive to the side. The rat, unable to stop as it's in the air, charges straight into the shadow, blinding its self once again.

I lunge straight back at its side this time opting to use bite instead. I bite its side, ripping off a large piece of flesh in the process.

SCREEECH!

It screeches loudly in pain, almost falling on its side. Not wanting to let this opportunity go to waste, I dive back at the hole I just made and start continuously using bite and scratch, biting and scratch every organ, and every piece of flesh I can reach.

Using it claws, it pieces my back leg and flings me out of its body, before falling to the floor unmoving.

[ding!]

[you have killed 1 forest rat and gained 400 xp]

[ding!]

[level up! you are now level 5!]

I stood up, the strange warmth, having already healed my body. I look at the forest rats body and spit out an almost purple coloured magic crystal,

"humph, your not the boss rat any more.."
