Chapter 1 - Copycat's Basketball

Basketball, a game not only passionate but also an expression of yourself. How well you play was about either talent or hard work. It just comes that prodigies were both hardworking and talented at the same time.

Ren Kenjaki, an underdog of the high school basketball prodigies. He joined basketball despite his age a 1 year advanced than others. Still, his height was in 6 footer. He was a genius copycat that could copy any of the moves of the other basketball players. Until he found the 5 Prodigies. It was by far his most challenging opponents. Making one on one with them sparked the fire that has cowered inside his heart. The fire of being challenged was once again in it's brightest.

His character was a bit a bad boy but when it comes to basketball. He would give it all. And he liked challenging games and opponents. Basketball was life for him.

Until it gave him an idea, what about copying their styles? He tried to copy them but it was natural for them and he was struggling.

He tried but he has limits, he could not copy the basketball style of the 5 prodigies. They were more natural than others. Their talent were overflowing and his talent could not reach them. Namely, Kentaro, Aoi, Kenji, Haizami, and Asahi.

He was a copycat of the high school basketball prodigies and tried to master their styles.

Though even with his limits. There were geniuses that has 3 archetypes but one was born with 6 in this generation–Ren Kenjaki. It was him that could rival any of them. Namely, Defender, Playmaker, Slasher, Aerial, Shot creator, and, Spot on Shooter.

But still, he could not master them entirely as he was only a mediocre in all of them. All in all a jack of all trades, master of none in high school.

They were unbeatable in high school and Ren was able to slowly develop in those years.

They were victorious in every game and they did not lose in any of it. Making the digit score in 30's to 40's.

They graduated and Ren went to school to a simple University. Namely Kaito University.

He was going home when he was walking while having a headphone on his ears and was crossing the road. He was busily reading his favorite novel as he walked towards the pedestrian lines. Making him saw the girl on the road pinking up her teddy bear while being dragged by her mother.

"Wait!" She shouted reaching forth for the teddy on the road.

The delivery van was also heading her way!

"Wait! You will get side swift!" He shouted at them.

Still, they were ignoring his warning. Making him to run towards them and save the girl.

Bam!

The van crashed on him and his back was struck. Crack! He heard his back snapped with a jolt of pain.

The accident happened and he rolled to the road while covering the girl. He immediately let go of the girl and he blacked out to the pain.

"Mister? Mister? Are you okay?" was what he could hear in his mind till he closed his eyes.

He woke up after blinking his eyes with a flash light.

"He is awake, we might add pain killers as the pain will be beyond for him to take," said an unknown voice.

After opening and adjusting his eyes, he could see the doctor having in his white robes.

Ren scanned his surroundings and he could already see that he was in a hospital. He wanted to stood up but he could not feel the lower part of his body. To his surprise, he could not use them.

He saw his mother weeping beside him. "Mom? I can't feel my legs!" Ren shouted in his surprise. There was a pause in the mood. It took time for Renji to absorb the situation. "What!? Wait, mom, this has to be a joke right?"

"I'm sorry son, but your spine is damaged. Your lower half is paralyzed." She sniffed and wiped her nose. Renji, still dumbstruck, gulped his saliva and realized one thing. His dreams will be gone into the pipes.

All those talents, all those trainings, the day and night struggles of his practice. All gone? He will become a disabled person from now on. His heart, beating fast but like a wheezing asthmatic person. He could not breathe normally and his heart was like a crumpled paper.

He chatted his best friend but was not replying. He waited, but she did not reply anymore.

"We will still observe. Maybe with therapy he could walk again. It will be painful and arduous but we can still try. Though it is not 100 percent." She said to him, still weeping.

It was then, depression took it's toll as his doctor said that he could not walk anymore, though it was still not a conclusion. His father and mother was in tears as they realized that their son would not walk anymore as his spine on the back was damaged.

"Mom Dad, it will be fine. I will just become a coach or a trainer this time around," he said sadly.

"Okay good, don't lose hope. It is better to be fighting than being in the depths of depression. Once hope is lost, all that matters would be in crumbles." Said the doctor. "Well I must leave," he then left.

His bestie, did not reply anymore and he saw her with a boyfriend. He soon realized that she was now separated from his life. He thought that he could at least have her support but not anymore. He could understand that she has to cut ties with him or else his boyfriend might get jealous. He still could not forget her, lingering thoughts still remained and her memories were being reminiscing.

Until one day, she wed.

Renji then thought of an idea. He would be a great trainer of next generation. According to his estimates, his knowledge and experience would be a great theoretical study of one's potential. It was bugging him if he would focus on it or become a great athlete. But the answer lies in the present. And that was to be a coach!
