ANIKA'S POV
I couldn't sleep a wink, as I tossed from one end of the bed to another.
I was restless because I wasn't used to laying in bed for a long time.
I have always been the one preparing breakfast and dinner for Levi, but since he changed two years ago, he never touched my food again, but nevertheless, I never stopped cooking for him.
Today was an exception, I wasn't going to cook for him anymore, since he never cared.
" Good morning, Ma'am." The knock on the door jotted me out of my thoughts.
I got off the bed and dragged my feet to the door.
" What is it, Caroline?" I asked lazily.
" Sir is asking for you." She replied, and I felt my stomach twist in pain.
If it were two years ago,I would have ran all the way to meet Levi, but it wasn't the same anymore.
Everything has changed. Him, me and our relationship.
" Why?" I asked, my brow knitting together.
" I have no idea, Ma'am." She replied.
I exhaled and walked out of my room, heading to the sitting room where she said Levi was.
Upon getting there, I met him typing away on his laptop.
" You asked for me, Levi." I made my presence known.
" I heard from Caroline that you've run out of new products." He paused and took out a card from his pants. " Here, get new ones."
I didn't accept the card, as I blinked back the embarrassing sting of tears that welled up in my eyes.
" Don't you need this?" He cocked a brow at me.
" Is that what we really need right now, Levi?" I asked as annoyance, pain anguish wormed its way into my chest.
" What?"
" You don't get it do you?" I chuckled bitterly, letting the tears roll down my eyes.
" What are you talking about? Can you be quick about it? I have to meet up with someone in thirty minutes."
My stomach tightened at his words.
I guess the person he was meeting up with was probably one of his numerous whores.
It took every ounce of willpower in me not to toss the nearest drink in his face, but if that could bring him back to his senses, I would gladly do that.
" Levi, we need to talk." I sniffled, pointing at him then back to me. " About us."
He let out a frustrated sigh before dragging his eyes off his laptop back to me.
" I thought we'd talk about this Anika. I'm ready to give the world to you, all I need from you is to remain an understanding wife." Levi said coolly.
" But I never want any of that, Levi. All I want is your love, your care and your attention. I didn't marry you because of your money." I cried.
Why wasn't this man getting any part of what I was saying?
I never married him because of his money, all I wanted was for the love and care which has drifted away to return.
" Wouldn't it be better to remain poor and loving than to become wealthy and be in pain?"
" That's for you, not for me. I prefer staying wealthy. Being poor is a disease."
My heart convulsed at his words.
" Okay tell me, Levi. What day is tomorrow?" I asked, my hands on my hips, hoping desperately that he would remember.
" Tomorrow is Tuesday, nothing special." I felt a pang of pain striking my chest.
" Tomorrow is just Tuesday, nothing special, huh?" I couldn't believe him.
It was then it dawned on me that our marriage was better off dead.
This marriage was nothing but a camouflage.
Our fourth year's wedding anniversary was tomorrow. 20th of September 2024, but Levi couldn't even remember.
It was a shame to me, him and our relationship we call marriage.
" Please excuse me. I have to leave for my meeting now."
He grabbed his laptop and walked out of the sitting room.
At that very moment, I felt a rush of emotions inside of me; pain, anguish, sadness, depression.
Our marriage has been ruined and not even God himself can restore it.
...…..
" Why are you sad, Anika? Is this about Levi again?" Lily asked, her expression etched with worry.
" No, I'm fine, Lily. I'm not feeling too well." I lied, but I knew deep down that I was getting eaten up by depression.
" I know you, Anika. You're a cheerful lady, but since two and half years ago, you've become a shadow of yourself." Stella, my other bestie said, causing me to smile sadly.
I would have drowned in deep depression if not for my three friends. Lily, Stella and Rosie.
Rosie wasn't among us. She had called earlier that she won't be able to meet up with us.
" It's Levi." I started, taking a sip from my espresso coffee. " Girls, what day is tomorrow?"
" Of course your fourth year wedding anniversary!" They chorused at once, causing tears to form in my eyes.
My best friends remembered my wedding anniversary, but my husband didn't.
" But Levi doesn't remember. He said tomorrow is tomorrow and nothing special."
I smiled sadly, my eyes dimmed with darkness as the spark I once had, dimmed into darkness.
" Are you serious?" Stella asked and I nodded.
" He goes around sleeping with different women and even lies to me that he was out of a meeting."
" Divorce him, Anika." Lily reached out to hold my hand in hers. " You're becoming a shadow of yourself and you're drowning in depression."
" I can't Lily. I can't imagine a life without Levi. I have spent six years with him. Two years of dating and four years of marriage. He is now a part of me now."
I replied, looking at the girls, whose eyes were filled with sympathy and worry.
" This isn't about Levi, Anika." Stella reached out to hold my second hand.
"This is about you. Levi won't give a fuck even if you die today, so divorce him and have peace of mind."
" Girls," I called, contemplating if I could tell them a secret I have been hiding for two months now.
" Yes?"
" I had sex with Levi two months ago, and I think I'm pregnant." I mumbled, causing their eyes to widen in shock.
" WTF!"
"Holy Moly!"
