Chapter 56 - Hogwarts, Please Graduate Soon, Ch 53.2

The Great Hall was lively; tomorrow was Hogwarts' first open day of the semester, allowing third-years and above to visit Hogsmeade for a day. It was the only village entirely inhabited by wizards in England. While it was quieter than Diagon Alley, it had its own charm. Many young witches and wizards went to The Three Broomsticks for a glass of butterbeer, spending a whole day there.

"Wayne! Glad to see you. Is there anything you need me to bring tomorrow?" Cedric called out when he spotted Wayne at the dining table.

"Could you pick me up some ink and a few products from Zonko's Joke Shop?" Wayne replied quietly.

All the items from Zonko's were on Filch's list, so it was best not to shout about it. Cedric understood and lowered his voice, "Write down what you need, and I'll get it."

"No need. Just get two of everything," Wayne said.

"That many?" Cedric looked taken aback. "You're trying to run Filch into the ground?"

"I just want to study them. You think I'm Fred and George?" Wayne rolled his eyes, gesturing with his wand on the table, whispering, "I need a cup of tea."

Swoosh! A steaming cup of tea appeared in front of him.

Some of Zonko's products included potions, while others were small alchemical gadgets. Wayne could learn a lot from them.

"I'll do my best," Cedric said, rubbing his hands together; he was worried about drawing attention while carrying so many items.

"How's your charms class going?" Wayne asked.

"Pretty good. I've grasped most of it.

"Then on Sunday, I'll teach you how to make a map."

"Okay."

As Wayne chatted with Cedric while eating, he noticed Hermione sitting at the Gryffindor table, surrounded by a pile of books. After finishing his meal, he approached her.

"I'm going to Hagrid's for afternoon tea tomorrow; do you want to come?"

Hermione thought for a moment. She could finish her homework in the morning; originally, she planned to head to the library with Wayne in the afternoon, so having tea wouldn't be a bad idea. She nodded, "Sure! What time are we going?"

Wayne replied, "Let's say two o'clock. You can finish your homework in the morning, and I'll copy mine over the lunch."

Hermione hit him lightly on the arm, "You can't borrow my homework; you need to do it yourself."

"Oh, then you can figure out the armoring spell on your own too." Wayne said nonchalantly, but Hermione grew upset.

"How can you back out? We agreed to it yesterday!"

Hermione knew that Wayne had a lot of spells up his sleeve. After several days of persuasion, she finally managed to coax a little bit of useful information from him.

Was he really having second thoughts?

Seeing the anxious expression on the little witch's face, Wayne teasingly taunted her, "I can withdraw my consent, can't I?"

"No way!"

"If I don't want to teach you, then I won't, unless you let me copy your homework." Wayne was starting to act stubborn.

Hermione gritted her teeth in frustration, but ultimately, she had no choice but to yield, fuming all the while.

If it had been anyone else, Hermione would rather not learn the new spell than hand over her homework. But as for Wayne, since he already knew everything that was taught in class, copying wouldn't matter.

Satisfied to gain an advantage, Wayne left the Gryffindor table amidst Hermione's shoving and protesting, before heading over to Ravenclaw.

Since he had called Hermione, he couldn't leave out Autumn.

Unfortunately, Autumn had Quidditch practice in the afternoon.

Wayne looked surprised, "Isn't tomorrow Hogwarts Day? Why is there still practice?"

Autumn shrugged, "The captain said they could have fun for the morning and come back for practice in the afternoon."

"Good luck with that," Wayne said sympathetically, but in his heart, he was still leaning heavily towards not joining the Quidditch team. He was already busy breaking school rules, so where would he find the time to train?

Autumn eagerly said, "If there are any snacks, remember to save some for me."

Wayne nodded with a smile, but inside, he couldn't help but scoff. If Hagrid had any snacks, he'd likely just twist Quirrell's head off to make it a night pot for the giant.

"Achoo!"

Quirrell, dining at the guest table, sneezed and awkwardly smiled at Professor Sprout sitting next to him.

Professor Flitwick expressed concern, "Professor Quirrell, the weather is getting cooler; please take care of yourself."

Quirrell responded meekly, making Flitwick sigh inwardly.

Quirrell hadn't always been like this. He had come to Hogwarts as a young professor, recognized as an excellent graduate. However, after teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts this year, he seemed to have shrunk back into himself, stuttering and seeming much more timid.

It was astonishing that he could even be reduced to tears by Wayne.

Meanwhile, in the Slytherin dormitory, Draco Malfoy and his two lackeys gathered together.

"Draco, are you really going to duel Potter tonight?" Goyle asked.

Malfoy sneered, "Of course! Just wait and see how I properly teach that Potter a lesson!"

Crabbe scratched his head in confusion, "But didn't you say you were going to report to Filch and deduct points from Gryffindor?"

"Are you stupid?" Malfoy smacked Crabbe on the head. "Gryffindor only has a handful of points left; what's the point of that?"

"Besides," Malfoy lifted his chin, "I'm the heir of the Malfoy family. Since I've proposed a duel, not going would be a disgrace."

"That's not fitting for one of noble birth!"

"A brat raised in a Muggle family like Potter could never be my match."

After a long spiel, the two still didn't quite understand, just asking him who he planned to bring as his second.

In the end, Malfoy chose the sturdier Crabbe as his partner.

Even in a close fight, he wouldn't lose out.

What Wayne did not know was that due to his manipulations, Malfoy was also changing. His sly, tricky nature remained, but when it came to family honor, he seemed like a different person.

The plan to trick Harry vanished completely, and this time, they would actually face each other in a real duel.

Wayne continued chatting with Autumn for a bit before he noticed her friends approaching. After exchanging greetings, he returned to the common room where Toby and Norman were playing Wizard's Chess against the Knight of the Iron Hat. The dormitory was empty.

Wayne went to the bathroom for a shower, washing his face three times until it was impossibly pale before opening the system's lottery page.

"System, let's do a ten consecutive draws and test my luck."
