Chapter 5 - Well, I Broke Up With Him…

Opening the text from Amanda, Rosalyn just slightly shock her head in resignation.

Amanda had sent a total of three messages.

"Rosalyn, did you truly misunderstand?"

"There really is nothing between Mark and me…"

"I'll even give back the bracelet Mark gave me. Even though it's a bracelet I've been wanting for a long time… I'll give it back!"

Not bothering to respond to Amanda, she next opened the messages from Mark next.

"Did you ask Amanda to give back the present? Can't you just let her have it?"

"Rosalyn, I never knew you could be so petty…"

"Even if you're angry, you shouldn't say such things about breaking up so easily. I understand that you were angry, so I'll forgive you this time…"

"Okay, I'll see you at dinner tomorrow. We can talk more then."

The two really were a match, both only saying what they wanted to say without any responses from her…

Just when she was contemplating whether or not to respond to the texts from Mark, one of the waiters came in with her drink. Seeing the slightly purple colour of the drink mixed with blueberries, lime and crushed ice inside the glass, she sighed contentedly.

Ordering a few snacks with the waiter before they left, she once again returned her attention to the texts from Mark.

When had it all started to become so tiring?

They had had a good relationship, but the last months had been frustrating.

Rosalyn felt she had truly been patient enough. And considering how defensive Mark had been around the whole situation around the rumour, she had her suspicions.

If he hadn't cheated yet, he had at the very least thought about it, maybe even stepped over the line a few times.

Having been with Mark for a while, she knew that he would sometimes give bonuses or other small gifts to his subordinates. But these were usually either a dinner at a restaurant, where he left his card so they could drink away, or at most a few thousand in monetary bonuses after dealing with an especially hard case.

Never in the time Rosalyn had known him had he given any gift in the realm of a few hundred thousand…

Rosalyn wasn't dumb, she could see the signs.

Gently tapping the table with her right index finger, she took a sip of her drink.

She once again lamented over how marvellous the drink tasted. It was one of her favourites and this bar made it to perfection.

Sitting there contemplating and enjoying her drink, she didn't even notice when Elliott came in.

He sat down across from her on the table and a waiter soon came in with his drink and the snacks. Thanking the waiter with a nod, he took a small sip of his drink, enjoying the taste.

"Hi there," he smiled as he greeted her, her attention moving to him.

Looking up from the table and at his ash blond hair, she simply replied, "new haircut?"

"Yeah, it was getting a little long," he gently ruffled his hair, giving it more volume. "Do you like it?"

"Mhm, it gives off a more refined feeling."

"But Rosalyn, we didn't meet here to talk about my hair..." He locked eyes with her, giving a cheeky smile. "I. WANT. THE. TEA."

Sighing slightly, Rosalyn gave a tired smile. "Well, I broke up with him…" she started telling, explaining the events that had taken place in Mark's office, the gift, and lastly her suspicions surrounding Mark's defensive behaviour.

As she was recounting the details of the day, Elliott just sat quietly listening to her. Listening to her tone, it felt more like she was talking about something that happened to someone else. Though Elliott had long gotten used to her monotone manner.

Remembering a few years back when she told him about her coma, her tone was just as calm.

It was also the same when they celebrated the different milestones for their business. When they got their first successful diet plan in distribution, when they signed for the office space and many more. Even when she smiled and celebrated with everyone else, she was always calm and collected.

Yes, calm was the word that best described Rosalyn. She always kept a levelled head. Her reasoning was always well thought out whenever she analysed a situation or discussed a topic.

Elliott wasn't shy to say that the biggest reason that their business had had such success was thanks to her. Elliott's connections got them the meetings with the different suppliers, but she was the one attending all the meetings, getting them the best deals possible.

Hearing Rosalyn conclude her retelling of today's events and showing the texts from Amanda and Mark, he couldn't help but shake his head.

"Haa... They truly are trash."
