Hearing Chloe fantasize about this CEO, she felt it was time to bring her back to earth.
Getting out of bed, she slung on her robe, before making her way to her living room sofa.
"Chloe, even if you are 'local', as you call it, a CEO for such a big company can't possibly be young right? I mean, you are only twenty, shouldn't you set your sights on someone closer to your age?"
Rosalyn tried to give her some friendly advice, as it seemed her younger sister was getting more and more lost in her fantasy.
Chloe, clearly offended, quickly responded in a heated voice.
"HA! What old? He is barley, like, thirty this year. That's only like ten years older than me. That's not even an age gap worth mentioning, considering his position and status. And either way, I hear he's like, really hot!"
Not knowing how to get through to her sister, Rosalyn decided to just go along with her. It wasn't like she was actually going to win him over anyway, right?
"Okay, okay. I was wrong," she simply replied, not bothering to argue about a hypothetical situation.
"Well, it's good that you know then…"
The line went silent for a bit, before Chole once again brought up the reason for her call.
"So, when will you give me my pocket money? I need to have it soon, so that I'll have time to go shopping. The dress needs to be perfect if I am to like, seduce him, or something."
Rosalyn let out another sigh, wondering to herself if she should just give her younger sister some money to end the conversation. But no. Instead, she asked, "didn't dad and mom give you money this month? I seem to remember that they are quite generous when it comes to your allowance?"
"Well, yeah, of course they gave me my allowance. But like, I didn't know about this banquet when I got it, and I've already spent it all, so of course I need some more. And you as my older sister should give it to me."
"Haa… Chloe, did you just call to ask me to be your piggy bank? I'm sorry, but I've got expenses, so I can't buy you a new outfit for the banquet. I haven't even had the time to buy something for myself," Rosalyn tried to reason.
Of course, she already had her outfit ready, she had put down a reservation for a beautiful evening gown as soon as she got her invitation.
The dress was in a soft pink colour with peachy undertones, complementing her olive skin, giving her a more radiant look.
Elliott had recommended it, seeing as she was usually quite neutral with her facial expressions. He meant it would give her a more welcoming air, as her personality and the feeling she gave off, could be a bit 'frosty', as he called it.
Chloe, hearing the response was not happy.
"Well, why does it matter if you haven't gotten a dress for yourself? What does that have to do with me? And why do you even need to go? If you can't pay for both of our dresses, you should just pay for mine and not come… Or maybe you can wear an old dress or something. Either way, that is not my problem!"
Rosalyn, sighing deeply, just calmly replied, "Chole, I need to be there for work. It's not really something I can just choose not to show up to. And I really can't buy you a dress this time. Sorry."
"Okay! Fine! I get it!" she screamed out, clearly not happy. "Then, if you can't buy it for me, can't you just ask your boyfriend to do it instead? Isn't he like the head of his department or something? Surely he got some money, right?"
Rosalyn hadn't told anyone in her family of Mark's identity, exactly because of this reason. She didn't want her sister to ask for money, or her parents to ask her to facilitate some sort of deal between themselves and Mark's company.
If they knew about his position in the Olsen family, they would surely hound her to help them out. And then she would never get any peace.
So, she had just told them that he worked as a department head in a medium sized company, to save herself the trouble.
"Sorry, Chloe, I can't do that either, I broke up with him."
"What?! How could you just break up with him? I might never have met him, but I do know that he was probably too good for you either way. How could you be so stupid?"
Chloe, clearly having made up her mind about Rosalyn and Mark's relationship, didn't give Rosalyn a chance to respond before she continued.
"Either way, you probably broke up with him over some minor thing right? You should really be more forgiving. It's not easy to find a young man that already is the head of his own department. Even if it's just in a medium sized company. For an adopted daughter, that's already like a really a big reach. Whatever happened, you should have just sucked it up."
Rosalyn was really starting to regret having answered the phone. She hadn't even had her morning coffee yet.
"Chloe- "Rosalyn started, deciding to try and calm down her sister once again. But Chloe, who was not done speaking, simply continued.
"I know, just say you had like a psychotic episode or something. That's it! You go over to him and apologize, and just say that you had an episode and blame it on your coma. Say that it is like an after effect or something." Chloe, seemingly happy with her solution, continued.
"And, like, you can say that you didn't mean any of it, and then like, when he takes you back, you can ask him about my dress. Yes! That's perfect!" she happily exclaimed.
Rosalyn, listening to Chloe rambling by herself, couldn't help but ask, "don't you even want to know why I broke up with him before you ask me to take him back?"
Chloe hadn't really asked her to take him back, as much as she had insisted that she does. However, Rosalyn felt that if she actually said that aloud, Chloe would only get angry again.
"No, as I said, you probably made a big deal out of nothing. Anyway, just make up with him, alright? Great. I'll send you a few pictures of some of the outfits I want, so that you know how much money to ask from him. You can ask for it as like a reconciliation gift or something. Bye!"
And before Rosalyn could respond, Chloe had already hung up.
Looking down at her phone, her head throbbing, Rosalyn seriously considered blocking her younger sisters number.
But then her parents would no doubt start calling her, asking her to unblock Chloe. And if she ignored them as well, they might even show up at her door…
Taking a deep breath and gently shaking her head, she decided to take some Advil before freshening up, as she still had a long day ahead.
