Chapter 8 - Fried Fluffy Chicken

"Hmm, sweeter than mutant grass roots," Liu Wutong felt a hint of sadness.

She took out that big bag of milk candies, unwrapped a piece, and placed one in Liu Piaoxu's mouth under her expectant gaze.

Liu Piaoxu was stunned by the sweet taste in her mouth.

So sweet!

Really so sweet!

There were actually things this sweet in the world!

"Sister, you eat one too."

"Sure. Mom, you eat one too." The three of them, as a family, all had some.

That night, each member of the Cheetah Team who had received instant noodles rushed home to cook them up as soon as they could, devouring the noodles.

Waves of the enticing scent of instant noodles tormented their neighbors, causing much grumbling and complaining.

At the same time, legends about the Galaxy Supermarket began to spread.

"Galaxy Supermarket? That's got to be a lie. How could there still be supermarkets now?"

"Those people from Cheetah Team don't even know how to make up a believable lie."

"But where did they get their instant noodles from?"

"Who knows? Maybe some Space Ability User kept them?"

"It's been ten years, which Space Ability User could keep something for that long?"

Superpower Users who heard about this unanimously decided to check out the truth the next day.

If it was fake, they would beat up the members of Cheetah Team, but if it was true... then they could also get their hands on some delicious instant noodles, right?

Those who had tasted the noodles were already rustling up all the Gold in their homes, preparing to trade for more items.

Liu Wutong's family of three were sucking on the sweet candies when suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

"Sister! Sister! What tasty thing are you eating? How come you're not sharing?" Gu Honghua had smelled the fragrance as soon as she got home, and upon sniffing, realized it came from Wang Huifang's place.

Her eyes shifted, and she knew Wang Hui's eldest daughter must have brought something delicious back home.

She definitely had to go over and give it a try.

And save a meal for dinner.

While eating her candy, Liu Wutong rolled her eyes. Here we go again.

She got up, hid everything she had brought back securely, and then gave Wang Huifang a warning glance.

Wang Huifang, covering her mouth, nodded. Her eldest daughter was really becoming quite commanding.

"Open the door," Liu Wutong said to Wang Huifang as she twisted her neck, just the thing for after dinner.

Wang Huifang walked hesitantly to open the door. Meanwhile, Liu Piaoxu clung to Liu Wutong's clothes, hiding behind her.

No sooner had the door cracked open than Gu Honghua squeezed impatiently inside, pushing past Wang Huifang and rushing to their dining table.

Only to find three impeccably clean bowls.

Gu Honghua sniffed stubbornly, not willing to believe it.

She definitely smelled something delicious! Why was it gone?

"Gu Honghua, what are you doing at my place again?" Liu Wutong was annoyed at her behavior; anyone would think it was her own house.

"I came to see if there's anything I can help with." Gu Honghua was a bit intimidated by Liu Wutong; Wang Huifang was an easy target, but Liu Wutong was like a fierce puppy, viciously scary.

Always out of the house, be careful not to die out there, Gu Honghua cursed in her heart.

Liu Wutong was a Superpower User who would always bring back food or goods whenever she left the base, and never thought to honor her elders with her findings.

They say distant relatives are no help like neighbors are.

If Liu Wutong would honor her with something each time, she could help Wang Huifang out a bit.

Liu Wutong, that damn girl, always had a sour face whenever she saw me. She guarded against me like a thief, making me feel like a bad person.

"There's nothing in my house that needs your help. Just get out." Liu Wutong said coldly, looking at her.

"Young lady, how can you speak like that? Don't you have any manners? I'm your elder!" Gu Honghua was getting more irritated by Liu Wutong's frosty demeanor, hands on hips, ready to pull rank.

"Oh. In that case, Aunt Gu, there's nothing in my house that needs your help. Please kindly fuck off."

How about that?

Is it polite enough?

"You... you... Sister, aren't you going to do something?" Gu Honghua was livid with anger, unable to control Liu Wutong, she turned to seek help from Wang Huifang, hoping Wang Huifang would intervene.

"I can't control her either," Wang Huifang said hesitantly.

Gu Honghua looked at Wang Huifang's weak appearance and got even angrier.

She usually liked Wang Huifang's meekness, which made her easy to bully. But now, seeing Wang Huifang assume this stance, she didn't like it one bit.

"Liu Wutong is your daughter, aren't you going to do anything? If she keeps this up, she'll never get married!" Gu Honghua thought she was still too kind, worrying about Liu Wutong at a time like this.

Unfortunately, Liu Wutong didn't appreciate it at all.

"Thanks for your blessing, now you can fuck off," Liu Wutong said, eager to stop looking at the exploding chicken, pushing Gu Honghua out the door.

"Hey! I come over to help and you don't offer any reward? You must've brought back a lot of good stuff, right?!" Gu Honghua wasn't willing to leave without a profit, clinging desperately to the door frame.

"That's none of your damn business, just leave," Liu Wutong said, starting to hit her hands away.

Thinking she could take advantage of our stuff again, no chance.

Wang Huifang watched her daughter's fierce behavior, her lips quivered but, in the end, she dared not speak.

She felt it was a bit harsh for her daughter to treat the neighbor like this; after all, Gu Honghua had helped her out in the past.

Like the time some thug came to rob their house when Liu Wutong was away at the base, only she and Piaoxu were at home.

If it wasn't for Gu Honghua visiting and driving away the thug, their house would have been ransacked.

What Wang Huifang completely forgot was that after Gu Honghua helped drive away the thief, she took almost all of their food as a thank you.

All she remembered was that Gu Honghua was a warm-hearted neighbor, often coming over for chats, making her feel less lonely.

Liu Wutong finally chased Gu Honghua out of the house and locked the door again.

Turning around, she saw Wang Huifang's guilty expression.

Liu Wutong: "..."

Liu Wutong knew without asking what Wang Huifang felt guilty about.

No matter how many times she said it, Wang Huifang still mixed with Gu Honghua, firmly believing that Gu Honghua was an exceptionally good neighbor.

From time to time, Gu Honghua would cry about not having enough to eat and take their stored food to help her out.

And she never considered that Gu Honghua had a capable daughter, a healthy laborer who could take on tasks from the base terminal to support both of them.

"Wutong, Sister Gu's life is not easy..."

"Stop, just stop," Liu Wutong gestured for a pause, "Mom, I finally come home for once, and I don't want to hear about how pitiful Gu Honghua's family is."

Her ears were about to develop calluses from hearing it.

"Sigh." Wang Huifang sighed. Why didn't Wutong believe her?

Sister Gu really was worse off than them, and it was so kind of her to often help out.

Liu Wutong was scared to see her mother like this.

She glanced at the spot where the instant noodles were hidden and decided to move them to the Team Leader's house. She would get them when she wanted to eat. Otherwise, the little bit of noodles would inevitably vanish into Gu Honghua's home while she was not around.

"Piaoxu, this bag of candy is for you. Hold on to it, and don't give it to certain people." Liu Wutong gave the rest of the candy to Liu Piaoxu, thankful that, unlike her mother, at least her sister knew better and wouldn't be duped by Gu Honghua.

Piaoxu, who witnessed the entire ordeal, took the big bag of candy and nodded solemnly.

She wouldn't be like her mother and believe Gu Honghua's lies.

Anyone who wanted to steal their food was a bad person!
