Chapter 13 - Cold and heartless steamed bun

Lin Murong, after exchanging goods, started pondering as he left.

Lin Muxue was his sister, and he knew her all too well, despising their own father from a young age, insisting on being raised by their uncle.

Leveraging her sweet mouth, and even though their father was still around, she managed to get their uncle, Lin Nianbei, to adopt her.

This made their dad so angry he was hopping mad.

However, he couldn't do anything about Lin Muxue.

Lin Muxue was cunning, and her seeking out their uncle to discuss that supermarket thing this time must have been with an ulterior motive of usurping it.

Lin Murong mulled over this more and more, feeling that it wasn't right and mentioned it to his good friend, Chi Yan, in passing.

"You give me an analysis. Is Lin Muxue up to something again?"

Chi Yan paused in his movements, "A supermarket?"

"Yes, some Galaxy Supermarket, just like the supermarkets before the apocalypse. But I find it unlikely; who has such a large space to store so much stuff? Even if they did, they probably couldn't resist using it. I guess Lin Muxue is probably aiming to monopolize someone else's supermarket, exaggerating on purpose, prompting Lin Nianbei." Speaking of this uncle, Lin Murong also didn't like him much.

His uncle Lin Nianbei was just like Lin Muxue.

One strained every nerve to climb up, even though the people at the bottom of the base were living in such hardship. But all he cared about was power, and his mind was full of competing for power and profit.

One was cunning, with strong jealousy, wanting the best of everything, and always thinking of ways to snatch what they didn't have.

Listening to all this, Lin Murong didn't believe a word Lin Muxue said.

How could such a supermarket exist.

He knew Chi Yan was the Space Superpower User with the biggest space among those he knew.

Chi Yan was particular and smart. When the apocalypse hit, the first thing he did upon awakening his Space superpower was to hoard, hoard, hoard...

All sorts of hoarding. He saw with his own eyes everything Chi Yan was stockpiling; if one was frugal, it would be enough for a lifetime.

But Chi Yan was too particular, a grown man living more daintily than a woman.

All those items hoarded, whooshing away.

Now, most of it had been depleted.

"Brother Chi, I'm actually worried you'll just drop dead one of these days." Lin Murong grew sad at the thought.

Although Chi Yan was venomous, picky, and had a 'princess disease'...

As a friend, he was still quite loyal.

The thought of Chi Yan starving to death because he was too picky saddened him.

Chi Yan: "..."

"Get your hand off."

"Oh. Such 'princess disease'." Can't touch this or that. As brothers, not even allowing an arm over the shoulder.

"Lin Murong, I've recently found a kind of plant that seems to be able to mute people with just a little bit of its juice, and I need a test subject."

"Holy shit!" Lin Murong jumped back instantly.

"I'm your brother, is this because I touched you? Really?" He wanted to poison him into silence?

It's only because he was close with Chi Yan that he talked so much. In front of others, he was supposed to be very aloof, alright?

"If I didn't know you, you wouldn't have been able to touch me." Chi Yan put away all those tools.

"Go out now." Chi Yan issued an eviction order.

"Hey, hey, hey! I've only been here for a short while, Brother Chi you're becoming colder by the day." Lin Murong, pushed out the door, pondered for a moment before he figured out what Chi Yan meant.

Was he asking him to check out the supermarket tomorrow?

No way.

Chi Yan, such a smart guy.

Actually believing in that kind of nonsense.

Unexpected, Chi Yan had also become foolish.

Indeed, he was the smartest one of all.

Lin Murong sighed, is this what it feels like to be lonely at the top?

The next day, Lin Murong arrived early at Chi Yan's house.

Although he wasn't interested in that so-called supermarket, thinking it was a scam, he was certainly interested in the breakfast at Chi Yan's house.

Chi Yan had a large space superpower, and although his stockpile was nearly depleted now, a lean camel is still bigger than a horse— he still had a lot of good stuff on hand.

"Is this a steamed bun? Wow, so delicious. You have no idea what crap I've been eating these past few days." Lin Murong stuffed three bites per large steamed bun into his mouth, and while starting on his second one, he complained to Chi Yan.

"My dad made it, it was all burnt, and it smelled and tasted fishy; I nearly threw up last night's dinner." Kids without mothers are like grass— the food his dad made was simply a culinary disaster.

Chi Yan prepared five steamed buns, but he only ate half of one. The remaining four and a half all went into Lin Murong's mouth.

After eating half of one, he simply drank a cup of plain water.

He used to have noodles for breakfast, ready-made and steaming hot. When he put them into his space, they would still be emitting steam, and they would still be hot when he took them out.

But now that was all gone, not just the noodles but the dumplings, soy milk, and fried dough sticks as well.

Now, even having a steamed bun required pairing it with plain water.

Chi Yan has always been picky, especially when it comes to food, never able to skimp no matter what.

Sometimes, if something was too disgusting, he simply wouldn't eat at all.

Like now, for instance.

"Brother Chi, seriously, you're going to starve to death one of these days." Lin Murong gnawed through four and a half steamed buns, and finally felt full.

After filling up, he chugged some hot water and, looking at Chi Yan who seemed like he was about to ascend to immortality, he spoke up again.

Chi Yan ignored him and started organizing his backpack.

"What have you got in your bag? I mean, you already have a space, why carry a backpack?"

"Gold bars." Chi Yan didn't really want to talk to this idiot, but this idiot was his friend, and he couldn't shake him off no matter how hard he tried.

"Why are you carrying gold bars?" Lin Murong still had the look of a curious baby.

Chi Yan: "..."

Who told him to bring gold bars to exchange for things at the Galaxy Supermarket? What we talked about yesterday...

Did Lin Murong think he was Lin Muxue? Just take things by force?

"Let's go." He saw that Lin Murong seemed like he didn't need time to digest either.

"You'll carry it." Chi Yan threw the backpack to Lin Murong. After eating so much of his food, carrying a bag wasn't too much to ask.

Lin Murong caught the backpack and slung it over his shoulder like a happy fool.

"Hey! You can't actually believe that, going to exchange stuff. What if it's truly a trap like Lin Muxue said?" Lin Murong walked along, trying to hook his arm around Chi Yan's shoulder.

Chi Yan deftly dodged.

His new clothes couldn't get dirty.

"Brother Chi, I suspect you've got your birthday wrong. Look at you, you seem like a Virgo." Fearing dirt here, fearing dirt there, even complaining about sweat smell when hooking arms.

Tall and mighty, yet acting like such a princess.

"I suspect you were a girl in your past life, and a princess at that."

Chi Yan paid no attention to him, and Lin Murong chattered merrily to himself.

Chattering away, he kept calling him a princess.

Chi Yan didn't argue with him.

He was magnanimous, not stooping to the level of a fool.

After Lin Murong left yesterday, he had asked around about the Galaxy Supermarket and found out that one could indeed exchange for a lot of things.

He was now full of anticipation for the Galaxy Supermarket.

He was fed up with having to eat cold steamed buns every morning.

He needed to replenish his three meals a day.

The steaming hot kind.
