"Cough cough cough, just joking," Su Yinhe suppressed a smile.
"Here's the deal, you stay here and help me with the cash register. I'll treat you to a Kanto stew," Su Yinhe pointed to the Kanto stew next to the counter.
"Really?" Lin Murong had noticed the Kanto stew during his last visit but didn't have money left after buying instant noodles.
This time...
He seemed to be out of money too.
Damn.
He had been too concerned with carrying Chi Yan's backpack and forgot he had brought two gold bars with him.
Lin Murong slapped his forehead, feeling a bit stupid.
But the boss was actually offering him Kanto stew.
"Really? Cash register? For how long? A whole day? I can do it!" Lin Murong was elated that the boss was actually asking him to work here.
Lin Murong glanced at Chi Yan, with a strong sense of provocation.
What good did Chi Yan's effort to entice do?
The boss still didn't fancy Chi Yan.
The boss fancied him, the boss wanted to employ him.
He had finally outdone Chi Yan.
He could finally go and brag about it.
Indeed, the boss, just as he had thought, was nothing like the cheap seductresses outside; the boss' aesthetic was very normal.
Clearly recognizing that he was better looking than the picky ghost, Chi Yan.
"Just for a short while, I will go upstairs with Chi Yan to check out the cakes."
"Huh?" Lin Murong was stunned, like a dumb goose.
In that instant, he went from heaven to hell.
The boss asked him to help with the cash register just so she could accompany Chi Yan to look at cakes?
Lin Murong looked at her in disbelief.
Su Yinhe felt inexplicably guilty under his gaze.
"Help yourself to the Kanto stew and any drinks. Thanks for your trouble."
Su Yinhe reminded him of a couple of things to be aware of and then went upstairs with Chi Yan.
Chi Yan, on leaving, glanced at Lin Murong.
That glance had no emotion.
But Lin Murong read disdain for him in that look from Chi Yan.
Lin Murong blankly stared at their retreating figures, feeling he had ultimately misplaced his trust.
The boss was just another vulgar person.
Was there really no one in this world who looked beyond appearances to see the inside?
Lin Murong began to feel sad.
Unfortunately, Galaxy Supermarket was too busy, and before he could indulge in his sadness for long, a customer arrived.
Lin Murong did as Su Yinhe had instructed and exchanged money for the customer.
The customer who came to exchange money happened to know Lin Murong and struck up a familiar conversation.
Upon finding out that Lin Murong was temporarily handling the cash register, the customer took out a gold bar, hoping Lin Murong would make an exception and exchange a little more.
"The boss isn't here, can't you exchange a bit more? We're all so familiar."
"If by familiar you mean how you stole my hunting prey before, then yes, we're very familiar," Lin Murong recognized Bald.
Lin Murong had also joined a small team, with a fairly high rank. Once, when he and his team had finished hunting, another team had stolen their prey.
Bald was from that team, and he had quite distinctive features; Lin Murong remembered him very clearly.
"This..." Bald was choked up.
And then came the rage.
"Lin Murong, who the hell do you think you are? This isn't even your supermarket, just a temporary cashier. Why the arrogance?" Bald had come to the supermarket to exchange goods for the day and knew the rules.
Lin Murong exchanged for him the same amount as Su Yinhe had done.
But he thought that since everyone was from the base, they should help each other. With Galaxy Supermarket suddenly popping up and with an owner nobody knew, Lin Murong, as a cashier here—and being from the base as well—should help people from the base.
Not to assist some random supermarket owner.
Not only did Lin Murong not help, but he also dredged up old grudges, small-minded as he was.
Was that necessary?
If you won't help, fine, but why bring up old scores?
"I am arrogant, so what? What are you gonna do, hit me?" Lin Murong, apart from Chi Yan, had never been afraid of anyone. Don't be fooled by how he acts like a little idiot and a useless person in front of Chi Yan.
In front of others, he was a high-level Superpower User from the base, and anyone who saw him had to show some respect.
He was always an arrogant one, too.
"You, you're asking for it!" Bald couldn't hold back any longer. After all, Lin Murong wasn't the boss, so hitting a temporary cashier probably wouldn't get him into too much trouble.
Bald calculated well but then got thrown out the moment he deployed his superpower.
Struck by Lin Murong's superpower and sent flying.
Then he lay on the ground, spitting out mouthfuls of blood.
"Tsk. If you can't back it up, don't yelp like a dog everywhere." Lin Murong dusted off his hands. As if his reputation at the base meant nothing.
"You..." Bald glared at him.
"Oh right, consider the money you've just exchanged as compensation for my emotional distress. You don't need to go inside and buy anything now." Lin Murong thought this temporary job was great, not only did he have food and drinks, but also some extra cash on the side.
"Why should I?" Bald panicked. The stuff he brought today wasn't his.
It belonged to the deputy squad leader of his team. The deputy had been too busy lately to exchange items at Galaxy Supermarket. Knowing that Bald had been making exchanges for a few days, he had given Bald a gold bar and told him to buy instant noodles to bring back.
The deputy squad leader had a foul temper. He had disabled four Superpower Users before, apparently because he thought they were unreliable.
If Bald lost the gold bar given by the deputy squad leader, would there be a way for him to survive his return?
He had been a Superpower User for so long, he was used to it. If his superpower were disabled and he had to live like an ordinary person, he couldn't stand it.
Not to mention, Bald had previously bullied both men and women with his superpower, offending a bunch of people.
If he lost his superpower, those he had wronged in the past would definitely not let him off the hook.
"You can try getting in if you want. If you can beat me, I'll let you take the stuff," Lin Murong said with a grin.
His tone was gentle, but his words might as well have told Bald to go get himself killed.
Of course, Lin Murong wouldn't let him die in the supermarket.
After all, Su Yinhe had entrusted him with an important task, and how could he, having not even worked for an hour, cause a death in the supermarket?
What if the boss found out and thought he wasn't capable?
He was still hoping that if the boss was pleased with him, he might be considered the first choice for a temporary cashier in the future.
So, at worst, Lin Murong would merely break both of his legs.
"Lin Murong, aren't you being a bit petty? All I did was snatch a few Mutant Wolves back then." Bald was not giving up yet—he knew he couldn't beat Lin Murong, but he also couldn't just walk away like that.
If he did, the deputy squad leader would surely kill him.
Thinking of the deputy squad leader's methods sent a chill down Bald's spine.
He wasn't sure if it was the supermarket's air conditioning that was too cold, or if it was because the deputy squad leader was too frightening.
"Yeah, you just snatched a few Mutant Wolves. And I'm just snatching the money from a few gold bars today," Lin Murong said, touching the gold bar Bald had brought.
"I've been so generous, not holding your past actions against you. Give and take, right? Shouldn't you not hold it against me for this money?" Lin Murong watched Bald with a smile.
"You..." Bald was at a loss for words.
"What? Not willing? Were all the things you said before fake?" The smile on Lin Murong's face vanished, and his expression turned utterly cold.
"Since you're not willing, then we're enemies, and towards enemies..." Lin Murong raised his hand, as if about to unleash his superpower.
"You... don't. I'm willing, I'm willing," Bald was utterly humiliated. He was unwilling, but it looked like if he dared to say otherwise, Lin Murong would indeed send him to the afterlife.
