When she opened her eyes again, it was to an unfamiliar ceiling.
Qiao Suisui propped herself up on her elbow and got out of bed, but after just two steps, she suddenly felt as if all her strength had been drained away, her body limp, as if her feet were stepping on cotton.
She braced herself against the cold ground, trying to muster her energy to observe her surroundings.
The layout of the entire room was very ordinary. Clearly, all sharp and pointed household items had been removed. The room was surrounded by walls with no windows, and the only source of light was the cold lamp overhead, casting the room in a stark, unwelcoming light devoid of warmth.
"Is anyone there?"
"Who's out there?"
Qiao Suisui peered through the shadow of the door slit and saw someone standing outside. She stared intently at the door and asked in a cold voice, "If you've captured me, why hide in the shadows?"
The person outside did not respond but merely lingered briefly before walking away.
