The Imperial Court had recently discovered a curious thing—
their Sun was in a particularly good mood.
In the days that followed, though Leberli was repeatedly turned away, he waited outside the door with a good temper each time. If his cajoling failed, he didn't lose his temper as before but instead wandered off to see the six deer.
He couldn't quite remember who was who, as each fawn bore distinct patterns on their bodies. At that moment, gazing back at Leberli were pairs of eyes black as grapes, making him unexpectedly tender-hearted.
One was particularly easy to recognize because, unlike the other fawns, it was a reindeer. Its little nose was black, its fur brown, and its small ears and body gave it a clever appearance.
Leberli lifted it from the stroller and set it on the ground. The little deer toddled about on its four little hooves, walking steadily.
