"WHAT'S MY PLACE, DANIEL?" ,she snapped at him.
Daniel looked at her . And thought that she was being too emotional. And that really annoyed him. Since Daniel and Mavis met. Mavis has never acted out of line.
And it just so happened that Mavis never knew that there was a line that existed between her and Daniel. She was very serious about their relationship. She loved him so much that she did not think much about what he thinks of her. Being around him , and being loved and needed by him was enough. But all that was seen differently by Daniel.
Daniel said to her, "Mavis, you need to calm down. You already knew that ....."
Mavis cut his words and said while tearing up, "How can I calm down when everything is happening so fast? You said I'm someone you know when she asked who I was. At the banquet , they....they all said was just a substitute. A third party in your relationship with her. I tried not to believe it, but you... you spending the night at a hotel with her, just.... just proved they were right."
With a choking voice, she asked Daniel again, "What's my place? What am I to you Daniel? "
Lilian said to Mavis, "Miss Williams, I think you're misunderstanding something. Last night me and Daniel were drunk and....."
Daniel stopped Lilian, "Lilian stop. I don't think you should explain to her. What I do is none of her business. "
Daniel walked towards Mavis and wiped her tears, and said to her coldly, "Mavis, like Lilian said, you really are misunderstanding something. And the thing you are not understanding very well is the relationship between you and me. I give you whatever you want or need ,and you obediently come to me whenever I say so. Isn't that what we agreed on?"
Mavis was shocked by this revelation. Her whole world came down crushing before her eyes. It was overwhelming to hear what he was saying to her.
She stuttered and asked, "W...wh..what are you saying?
He asked back ,"Do you want me to repeat what I said?"
Lilian walked to them and held Mavis hand and comforted her, "Miss Williams ,please don't take Danny's words the wrong way. Daniel has never been good with words. He might sound rude to you right now but he really can't help it. He has always been like this. Straight forward with his words. And his actions don't make things better at all. They are the opposite of what he mean. He really is a strange man. You see, maybe there really is something you misunderstood when you two met and his actions might have gave you the wrong idea. Misinterpreting his actions towards....."
Mavis pursed her lips and pulled her hand away from Lilian and said out loud, "Don't Touch Me!"
Lilian took the opportunity and fell towards Daniel. She made it look like Mavis pushed her.
Lilian acted all scared and stuttered looking at Mavis,"I....I'm sorry. Di..did I say or do something that might have offended you?
Daniel got mad at Mavis . He lowered his voice trying to control his temper and he said to Mavis, "Mavis, I think you have finally lost it. You should stay at your place for the time being. I'll contact you later. Maybe in a few days. You're making my guest uncomfortable with your actions right now. "
Daniel took Lilian's hand and the went upstairs with her. He showed her the room she will using. Then he went to the study room.
Mavis stood there without moving. She did not know what to do. She couldn't calm down . Nor hear anything. It was like the world around her had gone silent. All she could hear was how fast her heartbeat was beating. All she could feel was the pain in her chest. It's was suffocating. She could not think straight that it felt like she was sinking in mud. Questioning her judgment. Asking herself if loving him was the worst thing she could have done. Was it a mistake?
Maybe she should have listened to Dorothy and not fall too deeply in love with a man she barely knew. But she thought she knew him. She couldn't help but love him dearly. He was her first love after all.
Lilian walked out of the room Daniel gave her and she noticed Mavis was still downstairs. She looked down at her .
She thought to herself , ("wow, who knew it would be this easy to get her out of Daniel's life? She was so emotional that she made things easy for me and of course worse for herself. Well, I guess she's not much of a challenge. And why isn't she leaving yet?")
Lilian noticed that Mavis had not moved from where she was standing and thought, ("Was what happened that much of a shock to her? Weak. How weak she is. Well, I would be shocked too if I found out I was someone's substitute. Sucks to be you Mavis Williams.")
She started walking downstairs and said out loud , " Oh my, miss Williams, you're still here. Well, I understand how shocked you must have been. Do you need help? I think I can ask Daniel to let you stay. I don't think you're in the right...."
Mavis looked up at Lilian who was walking down the stairs. She could see Lilian's lips moving. But she would not make out a word she was saying. Mavis turned and walked towards the front door. She was leaving. Her legs felt heavy. They felt like they would give up at any moment. She clenched her fists so much that her nails had dug into her palm. She took her phone out from her pocket and called Dorothy.
Dorothy anwered and the moment Mavis heard Dorothy's voice, she started to cry even more. She couldn't say any word out loud.
Dorothy was really surprised when she heard Mavis crying through the phone, and her not saying what was going on worried Dorothy a lot .
Dorothy was on high alert when she asked her, "Mavis? What's wrong? Where are you right now?"
Mavis could barely say a word while sniffling, " I.... Doro.....thy, he..... me."
Dorothy said to her , "Send me your location, I'll come get you. "
Mavis sent Dorothy her location. The moment Dorothy got it she headed out with her car to pick up Mavis.
Dorothy found her and took her to her place and made tea for her.
When Mavis calmed down a little, she explained everything that happened since last night . Dorothy was mad after hearing what Mavis had said.
She replied, "WHAT? He treated you like a substitute? Why didn't he tell you that from the start? That way you would have left way earlier before you fell even more deeply for him. And what does he mean you both got what you needed from each other? I'm going to give that son of a b*tch a piece of my mind."
Mavis started thinking too much about the situation saying, "Maybe I overreacted and was being too emotional. Maybe he got annoyed by how unreasonable I was, and said mean things to me. Thinking about it now , I think I should not have responded to the situation like that.... I should go back and talk to him . Maybe he is calm now. "
Mavis was losing her mind and tried to give herself false hope. Dorothy saw how weak minded Mavis was being at the moment. She was too emotional . And this was really not like her. The Mavis Dorothy knew was a strong woman. But now she was just being too pathetic. Or was it because she was experiencing heartbreak for the first time. After all, Daniel was the first man she fell for and he was the first to break her. Thinking of this, Dorothy hated Daniel even more.
Dorothy was really worried. She grabbed Mavis shoulders and shook her . She looked into her eyes and said , "Snap out of it. Stop lying to yourself. He already told you about how he sees you. Don't let him walk all over you like that. Move on and be happy. You will find a better man who will treat you way better than he did. Daniel does not have you in his eyes. So don't put him in yours. He's a jerk. He's not worth your time. Be strong. You still have a career to think about. You're famous and you're the most beautiful and strong woman I've ever seen. But of course second to me. Look Mavis, you know I'm not good at saying comforting words but please, put yourself first. Make him regret ever breaking your heart. And the best way to do that is by loving yourself. "
Mavis hugged Dorothy crying her heart out in her arms. She then asked Dorothy, "Do...do you really I can...can over come all this? Is he really going to regret treating me like a disposable object?"
Dorothy smiled with relief and answered Mavis, "Yes sweetie, I know you can."
Mavis seized her crying for a moment and said, "w....wait, he said he'll contact later. What should I do?"
Dorothy looked at her and said with an annoyed voice, "Don't tell me you are looking forward to his call?"
Mavis looked away embarrassed because she was really looking forward to it, but now she made up her mind that she will never let Daniel in her life.
She shook her head and said, "Of....of course not. There's no way I would want to talk to him, ever."
She said that while sniffling, and continued talking, "I'll block him and never contact him ever again. Even....even if he begs me...."
She cried out loud and said, "I'll ignore the shit out of him. I'll... I'll be the boss....this time."
Dorothy patted Mavis's head and said, "That's more like it."
Mavis cried herself to sleep. Dorothy took her to the guest room . At that moment, Mavis's phone rang, it was Sammy.
Dorothy answered the call, and before she could say anything she heard Sammy's annoyed voice shouting.
"MAVIS! WHAT DID YOU DO? I knew you would cause trouble someday. But can you not mess up my life? The company is dropping us. WHO DID YOU OFFEND?"
