Mavis and Dorothy went to one of the top 5 spas in the city. It was the most relaxing day to Mavis this week. She could feel all her worries and problems melting away. The massage was one to die for. It felt like they were taking off a heavy load off her shoulders.
Mavis said Dorothy while they were getting a scalp massage, "You know what, this was a great idea."
Dorothy replied, "I know, right? But why didn't we start with shopping?"
Mavis anwered her, "Well, because I wanted to check if the card was still working. If it didn't work I would have used mine. That way, we would not have to embarrass ourselves when paying for the fancy clothes we pick while shopping. I am .... no , I was a public figure until a few days ago. I don't to embarrass myself infront of many or less people. Oh, speaking of which, I should announce my retirement. "
Dorothy said, " Hey Mavis, how about you announce your retirement before we get on a plane. I think it will be hard to leave if you announce it early. "
Mavis replied, "You think so? Well I guess you have a point. "
Dorothy paused and thought for a moment, "Mavis, I don't know if I'm just thinking too much , but ..... don't you think it's too quiet? "
Mavis asked, " Quiet ? What do you mean?"
Dorothy stopped the girl who was massage her head , she sat up and looked at Mavis seriously, "Don't you think it's weird? One of the famous celebrities got blacklisted and no one is making a peep of it. No reporters, no news or posts about it. It's like only the superiors of your ex-company knows about this."
Mavis got quiet . She too started to think that this didn't make any sense. Reporters should be dying for a story like this. She then said, "Do you think he stopped the news from spreading? He's that powerful after all."
Dorothy laid-back and the massager continued, "Well, why do that if he really wanted to ruin you?"
Mavis replied, " I don't know. After what happened these few days, I can't tell what he's thinking anymore. I guess i really did not know him after all."
Dorothy said some of her guesses, " Well, maybe it was not him who blacklisted you. Maybe it was that heiress girl. Maybe she wanted you as far away as you can be from Mr Bernard. She got your company to fire you and she blacklisted you. I would do that if it was me. I'd do worse if I could. After doing that, she made sure news didn't spread to keep Daniel from knowing anything. And I bet now she sent people to spy on you."
Mavis thought what Dorothy said made sense but she thought it was ridiculous, "Why go that far? I don't think she has enough time to do that. She would only do that if Daniel was not giving her the attention she wants. I bet she's busy glueing herself to Daniel right now. Maybe they are having best time of their lives right now. After being far away from each for so long, i think now is the best time for them to catch up and be all over each other. Didn't i tell you? She moved in , to the mansion i was living in with Daniel. I bet they're sharing the same bed.Thinking about it now, makes me even more mad. "
Dorothy thought to herself, ("Then, what if their candle of love died after not seeing each other for all those years?")
She continued thinking, ("No way, if that was true, he wouldn't have treated Mavis that way. ")
She then said out loud, "Maybe he's trying to get you out of his life silently? He didn't even ask for his black card back neither did he block it. Maybe he's saying 'Use that card however you want, you don't need to work anymore. Live as if you were dead. Don't show you face infront of me ever again. Even if you go shopping everyday for the rest of your life, you will never ever empty my pockets.' I guess that's how tycoons think, right? "
What Dorothy said annoyed Mavis, "Is that how it is? Does he really think that? I wouldn't be surprised if he really thinks that way. He treated me like a substitute after all. "
Dorothy said, "um, will it be alright to talk about these things infront of them?"
She was referring to the Spa employees.
Mavis told her, "Relax, if they ever said anything , they will lose their jobs. Here customers privacy is everything. Everything we said will stay in this room. "
After relaxing at the spa, they shopping. Mavis was covering her face huge glasses and hat. Dorothy encouraged Mavis to pick more expensive things. Clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry and etc. Mavis didn't want to but Dorothy forced her to do it by reminding her about Daniel and Lilian. Mavis took what interested and not too much. As for Dorothy, she picked almost 10 times the amount Mavis did. She wasn't going to waste this opportunity.
Daniel Bernard's side. The meeting room.
His phone was getting a lot of notifications.
He thought, ("First it was a Spa . Now it's shopping. I guess she's finally using it.")
He felt relieved after seeing that Mavis was spending his money herself. He felt like he finally didn't owe her anything. He was smiling looking at the notifications. He thought, ("I guess she's still unhappy. ".
Everyone in the meeting room was surprised to see Mr Daniel smile. These few days, Mr Daniel Bernard was not in a very good mood. Everyone was walking on egg shells when he was around. They had the idea why. His mood changed after the night of the banquet. Those who were at the banquet shared the drama. But from what they heard, it seemed like Daniel didn't care much about Mavis Williams. But after that day, Mr Bernard wasn't as how used to be. He seemed tired , cold and angry.
But today, Mr Bernard smiled after seeing few messages. He even started to look more relaxed.
Daniel turned off the notifications. He didn't want to be distracted when he's having a meeting. He locked his phone and continued the meeting.
Back at the mall.
Mavis told Dorothy they bought a lot already. They should go home and finish packing.
They decided to leave for abroad the day after tomorrow.
Dorothy said to Mavis, " How about you go wait in the car? We can't go home like this. We have to celebrate you moving on. I'll go get some beef and alcohol. But of course a 100% juice and desserts for you."
Mavis was okay with the idea, "Okay, I'll wait for you in the car. Don't take too long."
Mavis went to then parking lot to wait for Dorothy. When she got there, she walked towards Dorothy's car. Someone called out her name.
"Mavis Williams?! "
Mavis knew that voice very well. It was Sammy. But when Mavis turned around to look at her, she saw that Sammy was not alone. She was with the best actress, Charls Charlotte.
Sammy stepped forward and said mockingly, "So you're still around. I thought you would be in hiding right now."
Mavis said, "I don't see why I should hide. And why are you with...."
Charlotte cut in , being all high and mighty, "Sammy, who is she?"
Sammy answered, "Oh, sorry for not introducing her. Her name is Mavis, Mavis Williams. She was once an actress until she got blacklisted. "
Charlotte said, "You don't have to apologize my dear Sammy. If she's an actress, she should greet her seniors first the moment she see them...."
"Wait, did you say she used to be an actress? Blacklisted?"
Charlotte was still being all high and mighty. She laughed and said, "You're still unknown and you managed to get yourself blacklisted? I've never seen you before, but you name sounds familiar. Sammy, more info."
Sammy was about to explain when Mavis said, " Don't act like you don't know me. I know you always have seen me as a treat. I bet you're relieved that I'm out of the actng industry. So I guess you won't have to play tricks to keep me from rising anymore."
Charlotte was very annoyed, she ignored Mavis and said to Sammy, "Didn't I tell you to make it clear who she is?"
Sammy panicked, she stuttered a little and said, "eh...um, she's... she's Mavis Williams. The woman who was about to get the female-lead role you just got in that series called 'I'll CHANGE' ."
Charlotte acted like she just finally got to know who Mavis was, "Oh, it's you. "
Charlotte grinned and continued talking, "You're that Mavis. The Substitute for my bestie. I couldn't tell who you were with those ugly glasses and hat covering your face."
Mavis frowned. Charlotte saw that, she laughed and continued, "Now that the real one came back, the fake finally got kicked out. Was it painful to find out you're nothing but a substitute?"
"At first,when I saw you with him at that restaurant being all lovey-dovey, I thought maybe it wouldn't last long. I thought it was like one of his contract relationships. But a year past. When I find out it wasn't a contract relationship, I started to get really worried. What about my dear friend who was abroad. But then again, you always met privately and he just took you to a few banquets and dates. I started to suspect you were just a mistress. But guess what? It was even worse. When Lilian came back, Daniel made it clear , you're nothing but a substitute. "
Mavis wanted to cry, she couldn't defend herself. Charlotte said words that really hit her sore spot.
Charlotte was overjoyed to see Mavis being all quiet and broken. She didn't stop there. She continued.
"Mavis, you really are stupid. You know that you would have been famous if you knew how to use you resources well. Mr Bernard is the riches and handsome man in this country. If only you had used him to boost your career,you would have had everything. No one would have bullied you in the shadows. I wouldn't have been able to take most of your work too. And tell you what, those projects I took from you , were the one that helped me become number 1 . I'm really grateful for....."
"Oh really now?!!"
A strong loud voice came from behind them.
